Long after Liam left, the Brooks conference room remained silent as if frozen in time.

No one spoke, no one stirred. Brows froze, noses stopped breathing.

It was just as if someone pressed pause.

Even crypts couldn't be this silent.

Minutes dragged on, a suffocating tension blanketing the room, until finally—a sharp gasp pierced the silence. A young man inhaled loudly, breaking the spell.

Eyes darted around. Everyone glanced at one another, each pair reflecting the same unspoken fear. Liam’s presence still lingered like a ghost.

He was terrifying. Too terrifying!

"My Lord, what are we going to do now?" Silas stood up from the floor and approached Atticus, asking cautiously.

"Bring me my phone!" Atticus ordered, his tone urgent. "Jack shouldn’t have reached the Millers yet—we might still be able to stop him!”

“Yes, My Lord!” Silas turned and bolted, practically flying down the hall.

In a flash, he returned, phone in hand. "I've already dialed him, My Lord."

Atticus grabbed the phone an

At the grand entrance of the Millers' villa, a suffocating silence stretched endlessly. It was as if the world had come to a sudden end.Jack and Seth gaped at Ariadne in shock and disbelief, their jaws dropped. She was the one who was being offered as a sacrifice, and she was supposed to be happy that Jack failed, but instead, she was mocking him for that? The most shocked was Jack. He couldn't believe what he heard. Ariadne had been crying and throwing tantrums all the way to the Millers' villa, almost causing the car to veer off the road countless times, just because she didn't want to be brought here, and now she was mocking him for not succeeding when she was supposed to be happy? It didn't make sense! But what Jack and Seth didn't know was that, though it was true that Ariadne was the one being offered up like a sacrifice, it just felt so good to ridicule Jack. The arrogant brat had met his match in Seth. How sweet! The silence stretched endlessly until suddenly, Jack's eyes wid

At the Millers’ villa…Seth stood proudly at the grand entrance, a smug expression plastered on his face. When he first heard that Jack was at the gate and that Ariadne was with him, his heart had nearly leapt out of his chest. The excitement had almost made him bolt straight to the gate to personally welcome them. But he’d restrained himself. He had to keep up appearances. He couldn’t just appear thrilled. He needed to show a bit of anger—let them think he hadn’t forgotten how they disrespected him. He was the heir to the Miller family after all. He needed to act like one.“Mr. Miller, I’ve brought your woman,” Jack called out with a wide grin, strutting forward, his chest puffed out in pride. He motioned to the guards, who immediately stepped forward and roughly threw Ariadne down at Seth’s feet. They treated her like she was nothing more than an animal for slaughter."Ah…" Ariadne gasped, the breath knocked out of her as she hit the ground. Her cheeks were streaked with tears, a

It was as if the air froze over. The Brooks exchanged uneasy glances. He came for Ariadne? The stupid, foolish and reckless girl they had just handed over to the Millers? But why? What could a man of his status possibly want with her? Liam didn’t miss the change in atmosphere — how anxious the Brooks suddenly were. His brows furrowed slightly. But he shrugged it off indifferently. He took a sip of his wine and uncrossed his legs. "So, Mr. Brook, where is Ariadne? I want to see her. Bring her to me!"Atticus shifted uncomfortably on his foot. "Um, she... she...," he stammered, swallowing a lump of spittle. He was like a kid caught stealing a candy. At that moment, Liam finally noticed something was wrong. His expression instantly darkened. He set the wine glass down with a sharp clink that echoed ominously across the room, and shot Atticus an icy glare, one so cold it sent a chill down the old man's spine."Old man, where is Ariadne?" he asked, his voice dangerously low. "I hope yo

"My Lord! My Lord!" Barely five minutes after Jack left, a sudden shout rang out in the Brooks' conference room. A guard rushed in, panting heavily, his face pale with urgency. He hurried over to Atticus and fell to his knees. "My Lord, Mr. Liam Fletcher is at the gate!""What?"The room froze, the air growing thick with disbelief. Every eye turned to the guard. Was he serious?Liam Fletcher? The heir to the Fletcher family—one of the top five families in the county, miles above the Millers in status and power?!How could that be possible? They were just a B-list family, what could someone of his status and power possibly want with them?!"Are you sure of what you’re saying?" one of the Brooks barked, his voice edged with warning. He glared fiercely at the guard. "If this is some kind of prank, I swear, the consequences will be beyond what you can handle!""I swear this on my mother's head!" the guard declared firmly, his tone serious and unwavering. His gaze shifted to Atticus. "My

"You see the man you chose to stubbornly be with? The moment trouble came knocking—the same trouble he caused—he turned his back and ran, leaving you to deal with everything alone. How can such a coward, such a loser, be what you truly want for yourself?" Watching Lucas disappear from view, Linda turned to Ariadne and chided, her arms crossed defiantly."He didn’t run away. Lucas is no coward!" Ariadne shouted through her tears, glaring at her mother. Why did she always have to stand in the way of her happiness? What really did Lucas do to her?!Was it such a crime to be poor?!"My Lucas may be poor, but he is not a coward! Has never been!" she added, her expression brimming with confidence."Hmph!" Linda scoffed, her tone laced with disdain. "You honestly think he left to resolve the situation? He, a mere loser? If you really think that, then you’re dumber than I thought! I’m so ashamed on your behalf!" She paced the room, unable to contain the frustration bubbling inside her. After
