Sarah cried when she heard the sad news from the hospital.

"How is your mom?" Violetta, Sarah's manager, sat beside her.

"She's back coma because I couldn't find the right donor for my mom."

"Did you ask about it to your fiancé? Didn't he promise to find one for you?"

"Jacob doesn't care about my family at all. He just wants my fame."

"He's such an asshole! Why would you get engaged to him?"

"I had no other choice. Jacob, the one who gave me the job and the money."

"But you're a famous actress, and you don't need him anymore because many other agencies are clamouring to hire you."

"I know that. But Jacob was the only one who was willing to lend me a large sum of money for my mother's hospitalization. Moreover, he's very creditable to me for giving me a chance as an artist so that I can support my family."

"He's just using you. He deliberately ensnared you in feelings of indebtedness so that you would submit to him. The reason he dares to give you money in the beginning is that he knows you have the potential to become his money-making machine. After making a big profit, he will give you a small wage from all his profits. Once you are useless, you will be discarded and find another prey. He is a sycophant."

"I know that, but I don't care. I only think about my mother's safety."

"But your mom would say the same thing as me. Quit the agency, then I'll support you. If you stay with Jacob, you'll go crazy. Believe me, you can still get a new job without him. You'll even get a big paycheck."

"If I break our agreement, he will tell all entertainment to reject me by spreading hoaxes. They'll immediately believe him because he's very influential in entertainment."

Violetta snorted in annoyance.

"I have to go to the hospital. Tell the director I have a few hours' leave."

"Okay."

Sarah got into a taxi and went to the hospital. Arriving at his mother's ward, she didn't find Jennifer, her mother.

"Where's my mom?" Sarah asked the nurse who was tidying up the room.

"Your mother has been moved to the operating room."

Sarah shocked. "What happened to her? Why was she moved from this room?!"

"Mrs Jennifer going to have kidney transplant surgery."

"No way! I haven't even found a suitable donor for my mom."

"But there is a man who donated his kidney. He said he was your friend."

"Really?! Impossible!" Sarah was more shocked to hear that. She didn't have any friends who would do such a thing. "Who is he? I want to meet him.

"Sorry, Miss Sarah. You can't because he's in the operating room, but you can meet him after his surgery."

Sarah had to swallow her disappointment.

Finally, she decided to wait in front of the operating room. She walked back and forth while praying for her mother and the mysterious man.

After a few hours, the operation was completed smoothly.

Sarah burst into tears as if she had just returned to life after years of darkness.

"Can I meet the donor?"

"Of course. But he wants to meet you when he comes out of anaesthesia."

"Okay." Although disappointed, Sarah respected the decision.

***

"Steve?!"

Steve smiled a little. His face was pale and looked weak. "Good to see you, Sarah. Is your mom awake?"

Sarah ran up to him and slapped him lightly.

"Ouch." Steve winced. "Why are you-" he was surprised when Sarah hugged him tightly while sobbing.

"Why would you do this for me?" Sarah poured her heart out in Steve's arms.

Steve was happy when Sarah cried tears of joy. "Because I know the pain of losing someone we love. Therefore, I don't want you to feel it," He thought of Emmy.

Sarah looked at Steve in surprise. "Just that?!" Steve's reasoning needed to be clarified.

"Of course not. There's one more reason," Steve looked at Sarah intently. "Because I love you. Will you marry me? I may not be able to fulfil all your wishes, but I-"

"I will!" Sarah exclaimed enthusiastically.

Steve was surprised to hear that. "Are you serious?"

"Of course! There's no reason for me to refuse your proposal. You've already granted my request more than yesterday."

'I knew this would work.

"Sister, can you get me the things I left for you before the surgery?"

"Okay." The nurse took out the red velvet in the nightstand drawer and gave it to Steve.

She opened it in front of Sarah, revealing a sparkling diamond ring.

"Will you marry me?"

Sarah cried tears of joy as she nodded. "Yes, I will."

Steve put the ring on Sarah's finger, and the sisters clapped happily.

[Congratulations! You successfully completed the mission!]

[Reward Successfully Received]

Steve grinned with satisfaction. 'My revenge mission is only one step away.'

***

A week later.

"What the hell?! Marry with him!? Are you crazy?!" Robert shouted angrily. "I don't agree!"

"I don't need your approval!" Finally, Sarah dared to fight back after so many years of slave-like submission. The reason he had always submitted to his orders was that her father had a kidney that matched her mother's. He always promised to donate it if Sarah gave him money.

However, it was all nonsense. Although Sarah always gave him money, her father was deliberately stalling.

Now, she didn't need it anymore.

"Do you want to see your mother die?!"

"Die?" Jennifer chuckled sarcastically. She came in sitting in a wheelchair while Steve pushed her.

"You?!" Robert was in shock. "How did you get well?!"

"My future son-in-law saved me."

"How dare you ruin my family!"

"From the very beginning, you were the one who ruined it!"

"Just watch! It'll ruin your life! I'll get your fiancé to fire you and spread the news about your affair so that you'll be hated by everyone and starve to death because no one will take you in. I'll make you have no choice but to marry him."

Sarah was a little scared to hear that. After all, she still needed a job to support her mother. Moreover, Steve wasn't rich, so he couldn't leave that responsibility to her.

"Just do it. I'll make you and that guy suffer." Steve voiced.

Robert laughed mockingly. "What can you do against me and Jacob?"

'Jacob?' Steve grinned slyly. "You'll see. Come on, let's get out of here, honey."

Steve stared at the man with the dragon tattoo, eyes sharp and calculating. One million dollars. That wasn’t just the price of his fortune—it could cost him his life if he approached the syndicate unprepared. “I need two days,” Steve said steadily. “Give me the address.” The tattooed man raised an eyebrow, then pulled a slip of paper from his coat pocket. “Midnight. Old warehouse. Bring the money. Come alone, or we’ll split the woman in two. You might’ve saved her today, but tomorrow? She won’t be so lucky. If you go back on your word, my boss will hunt you and that woman down.” Steve took the paper without a flicker of emotion. His gaze shifted to the woman behind the car window—shaking, frozen in place. “What’s your name?” he asked as the tattooed man and his men backed away. The woman was silent for a few seconds before whispering, “Clarissa.” “Clarissa?” Steve nodded. So it was true. This woman was Mateo’s wife—and somehow, she was part of his dirty operations. ---
