CHAPTER 8: Expressionless Threats

“W..what did you mean!?” Celeste questioned. Trying to snatch her hand from him but he dragged her closer with full force their eyes were fixed on each other without blinking. With only a few distance in between them.

When she didn't hear any reply from him she tried to snatch her hand again but his hand was still firm on hers.

“Vincent, please you are hurting me!” She called out slowly, her face laced with some unexplainable pain.

He slowly let go of her hand and sauntered past her to the door. “Let's go!” he said curtly before walking out of the door.

Celeste looked at him in astonishment and confusion. She couldn't fathom what he was trying to say exactly but she wasn't sure if there was anything she did that hurt him deeply.

Looking at her wrist that is already red from the grip. She exhaled deeply and quickly ran after him even though she couldn't keep up with him.

They get to the old man's mansion and he stops and turns to her. “You should lead first as I don't know where the gathering is taking place.

Ohhh! okay, She replied as quickly walked past him in fear but she soon stopped when she heard what he said next.

“Am sorry for holding you that way Just now!” I must be out of my mind. He apologized Sincerely.

Without saying a word she continued walking while he followed her obediently without questioning her.

They come across a Maid and she greets them respectively. “Where is grandfather and the others!?” Celeste inquired, ignoring her greetings.

“They are in the dining room!” The maid replied with a smile.

Okay! Celeste replied and Walked past her with Vincent still tailing behind without uttering a word.

They were about to enter the room when they heard the old man's voice rising with anger inside. “How dare he!?” I called him here and he is complaining about being sick. “Did he want to die!?”.

“Sorry grandpa! It was my fault, I think he wouldn't be able to come with his condition but am mistaken he could perfectly manage to”. Celeste apologises rushing towards him.

“I'm sorry for making everyone worry”. Vincent also apologized and walked closer to them.

The old man just waved his hands in understanding and asked them to take their seats. They were served their meals and everyone ate in complete silence.

“I called this meeting solely because of Vincent”. Mason Brooks declared setting down his silverware.

Everyone stopped eating and focused their attention on him ready to hear whatever he had to say.

“About the recent incident, I’am sorry for whatever harm we’ve caused you and therefore I will offer you a position in the company”.

He looked at everyone and they were all eager to hear what would be his decision but Vincent himself was looking uninterested. “Maybe because he thought he would be giving him some cheap position” The old man thought in his mind. He cleared his throat and continued.

“Vincent will be given the position of the incentives manager so he could be monitored by Celeste and assist her well”. He concluded with a calm smile.

“That's impossible!, he can be given some security work or some position in the sales team”. “How can he be promoted to that extravagant position because he was beaten!?” Benjamin Brooks yelled in annoyance.

“Even I, your granddaughter, was not promoted to that position after years of devoting myself to the company. How can a nonentity like him be given that position? Mia murmured amidst tears.

“He was your elder sister’s husband, he can't be in a position lower than yours. It can only be lower than Celeste's position herself”. Mason Brooks tried to explain.

“Am in support of that after all, everything that has happened so far is all your scheme”. Victor Sneered turning to eye Mia with a disgust glare.

“Are you insane!? Am three good years older than you and you are talking to me that way”. Mia rebuked standing to throw her spoon at Victor.

“You are the crazy one, Mia! Celeste is two years older than you and you still shamelessly harm her because she was trying to be nice to you shameless bitch”. Victor cursed back.

Celeste and Vincent were just laughing in their seats without uttering a word.

“Who is a bitch!?” Mia yelled.

“Mia Brooks is a shameless bitch!” Victor backed back. Mia was about to run towards him when their Old man yelled at them to stop immediately.

“Victor be warned!” he added before turning to Vincent. “Are you pleased with the position!?” He inquired with a smile.

“No!” I will never work in the Brooks company even if I was offered the director position.

“How dare you!?” Edward shrieked back in anger.

Vincent was about to reply to him when his phone rang loudly. It was a call from Lana.

“I think I'm just not worthy!” am sorry If I annoyed you he said ignoring the call.

It rang again and Celeste saw the caller ID and smiled. “You should answer your call first!” She asserted.

You are excused, the old man also added.

Okay! Thanks, he replied and walked out of the room.

“Why the hell are you calling me!?” Vincent shouted picking up the call.

“Vincent there is a problem!” “Your brother kept on pestering me about your whereabouts. Even though I didn't tell him anything because Celeste threatened to kill me if I said a word about you to anyone. Sooner or later he will track you down”.

“Celeste must not find out about your background or else the Brooks will also hunt you down”. Lana explained in urgency.

“So you are already aware that I knew about your relationship with Mike!?” Vincent replied curtly.

“Am sorry Vincent!” “I was only a low-class stripper; he made me who I am today. I can't disobey him unless I want to die. Please vanish into the thin air before it's too late. This is the last help I can render you as a woman who loves and cares for you dearly”. Lana declared her voice nearly above a whisper

“So you mean I should run for my life because of a kid younger than me!?” Vincent shouted in anger.

Take care, she replied and quickly ended the call.

“What the fuck!” He yelled as he rammed his hand hard into the wall, blood went dribbling immediately.
