Mr. John quickly drove the car to the same hospital where Ryu's mother had been undergoing treatments for a quick check-up. Following the Chairman's orders, he took Ryu to a VIP ward where a doctor made a quick check on him.

That was when they discovered Ryu had ingested a rare kind of poison, this information was quick to place Mr. John in a panic mode. Fearing for the life of the Chairman's son, he instructed the Doctor to immediately start giving Ryu treatment as he knew how deadly poisons can be.

It usually depended on the kind of poison he took, some could kill their victims as fast as one could blink and some usually would take time before slowly killing their victims and there was no telling what kind of poison was inside of Ryu.

While Ryu was undergoing gastric lavage treatment to get rid of the poison in his stomach before it took effect as according to the doctor, it was a slow-acting poison which would firstly render its victim unconscious before slowly killing them, Mr. John made a quick call with the Chairman to inform him of the current situation and of course, the Chairman was angered.

...

It took Ryu three days to recover from his treatment as he had been unconscious even after a successful surgery, he woke to a banging headache. A soft groan escaped his mouth as he struggled to open his eyes, for the first few seconds, his mind was blank as he couldn't think clearly.

Staring hazily around with a soft frown marred on his face as he tried to know where he was and just in time, the room door was pushed open to have two men step in. Ryu turned to face them, not recognizing who they were at first.

His frown deepened as a certain memory came flooding his mind, enabling him to recall where he had seen these men, it was at that strange mansion from before. Who were they and what do they want? It was questions like this that filled Ryu's hazy mind but most importantly, "Where am I?" He murmured, looking around the place once more but with a clearer mind.

"At the hospital still recovering," Chairman Langley informed him, looking down at his son who looked nothing like him as the young man took his mother's face, he was basically his mother's twin.

This new information had Ryu even more confused, why was he at the hospital?

Noticing his confusion, Chairman Langley proceeded to tell Ryu all that had happened three days ago that brought him to this state.

Ryu listened and began to immediately recall all of it. Richard had really tried to poison him, the thought of it made him hurt at first but it switched to anger real quick. To think he once saw that demon as a friend and an older brother, all of this because he wanted Belle to himself.

"That bitch," Ryu murmured under his breath as he cursed at Belle, his eyes glaring daggers at the floor while he tried to contain his anger.

"And Mum? What about my Mum?" He asked, raising his gaze from the floor and stared up at the men, feeling anxious.

"Calm down, she has been buried somewhere to rest and you will be visiting her after you've recovered properly," Mr. John informed, speaking up for the first time since he stepped into the room.

However, Ryu was too impatient and couldn't wait any longer, he missed his mother already and needed to pay his last respects to her as soon as possible, "No, I can't wait," He said, trying to get rid of the drip attached to his wrist but was stopped immediately by Mr. John.

"You need to calm down, your health is what's more important and you know your mother would only want for you to stay strong and healthy, please stay calm," Mr. John said, holding Ryu in place as he tried to calm him down with words which worked.

Chairman Langley who had been standing quietly watching Ryu said, breaking the brief silence, "I have something important to show to you and I thought now was the best time to do so," He said, signaling Mr. John who immediately brought out a piece of paper from the briefcase in his hand, he handed the paper over to the Chairman who in turn handed it over to the oblivious Ryu.

"That there is the DNA test that proves that I am your father and you are my son," Chairman Langley deadpanned and a pin-drop silence followed.

No words were spoken as Ryu skimmed through the paper with his eyes, confirming what his so-called father had just said. Not knowing what to say and how to react, Ryu remained silent.

He had grown up with just him and his mother without knowing who his father was or where his father was and why his father wasn't present in their lives and his mother never told him till he grew up and eventually stopped asking.

Right now, he had only one question in mind, looking up at the Chairman, Ryu proceeded to ask, "So? What now? And where have you been all these while? Why suddenly show up now?" He demanded, not knowing how to feel about this information.

"Two years after you were born, your Mum took you away from me, she suddenly disappeared with no explanation, I tried to find her but never succeeded until now. The reason for your mother's hatred towards me was what I never understood and I want to fix that. It may seem too late already but it's not for the both of us, we can fix this and right all the wrongs, and that's all up to you if you agree to be part of my life once again." The Chairman said and Mr. John stood by the side, watching as his Chairman continued to feed lies to his son with the hopes of getting him to be on his side.

...

Two days rolled by and Ryu could finally now visit his mother's grave. She was buried in a private cemetery and it was all thanks to Chairman Langley.

Ryu knelt before his mother's grave as so many questions filled him, he had a lot he wanted to know from her about his father. Why did she take his father away from him for all these years and never give a proper explanation?

He was curious and confused.

His thoughts were interrupted when he felt a hand on his shoulder, it was the Chairman who had been standing behind him.

"Now," He heard the Chairman's voice from behind, "With my wealth and power which will be all yours, you can get revenge for your mother against those who have wronged you and caused her death. You are my son and I'll make sure you get everything and anything you'll ever need," He said, his words bringing back all of Ryu's pained past and this only made him angry and thirsty for nothing but revenge.

To hurt back those who have hurt him. Doing them ten times harder than what they had done to him.

But was Ryu supposed to trust the father he had just met?

  • Hallucinating?

The grand hall glittered under golden chandeliers as soft classical music floated through the air, the kind of atmosphere meant only for people who never had to worry about money a day in their lives. Belle held Richard’s arm as they walked in together, her heels clicking confidently against the polished floor while waiters moved around with trays of wine. She loved places like this, places that reminded her she had escaped the embarrassment called her past, and tonight she felt particularly pleased seeing familiar wealthy faces greeting Richard with respect.“You see?” she whispered with a faint smile, leaning slightly toward him. “This is the life people like us are meant for. Not struggling with useless people who drag you down.”Richard smirked, accepting a glass from a passing waiter. “Some people are simply born to be stepped on. That’s reality.”Belle chuckled softly. “Imagine if that loser could see us now.”“Ryu?” Richard scoffed without even thinking about it. “He’s probably

Ryu stepped out of the car and stared at the tall glass building in front of him, his hands tucked inside his pockets as if that would somehow calm the uneasiness crawling beneath his skin. Mr. John stood beside him, already walking ahead like a man who had done this a thousand times, while Ryu lagged behind, silently wishing Drew had been the one sent with him instead. Ever since the Chairman told him he would be inspecting a branch alone, his chest had not stopped feeling tight. This was not a classroom test anymore.Inside the building, the receptionist barely spared him a glance. Her eyes moved past him and rested respectfully on Mr. John instead, and Ryu could already feel how today would go. A few staff members whispered among themselves as they walked by, their eyes lingering on him a second longer than necessary. He heard it clearly; Chairman’s pet. The words were not even said quietly enough, almost like they wanted him to hear it.They made him wait.Ten minutes turned to th

Ryu stepped out of the conference room with Drew walking a few steps behind him. The hallway suddenly felt quieter than before, almost unreal after the intense atmosphere he had just endured. He stopped midway and placed his hand against the wall, letting out a long breath.“I really thought my soul left my body back there,” Ryu muttered.Drew folded his arms. “But it didn’t.”“I was shaking.”“I noticed.”“And you let me walk in there alone anyway?”Drew raised a brow. “Would you have preferred I held your hand?”Ryu shot him a look. “Don’t push your luck, old man.”For the first time since the meeting, Drew allowed a faint smile. “You did well.”Ryu blinked, slightly stunned. “That’s it? Just well? I nearly collapsed!”“You spoke. You answered. You didn’t run away. That alone was the goal today.”Ryu leaned back against the wall, staring at the ceiling. “They were looking at me like I was trash.”“They still are,” Drew replied calmly.Ryu’s head snapped toward him. “Encouraging as a

The heavy door closed behind him with a soft but terrifying click that echoed louder in his ears than it actually was, and at that moment Ryu realized he was truly alone inside the battlefield Drew had prepared him for. The conference room was large, far larger than it had seemed from outside, with a long polished table stretching across the room and a massive screen mounted on the wall. Around the table sat men and women old enough to be his parents, some even his grandparents, all dressed sharply and radiating authority that suffocated the air. Their eyes followed his every movement as if measuring his worth in seconds, and he could almost hear their thoughts screaming the same thing; Who is this boy? Ryu swallowed, his throat suddenly dry, his palms damp, but remembering Drew’s words, he forced his feet to move forward instead of retreating. Each step felt unnatural, like walking on unfamiliar ground, yet he continued until he reached the empty seat at the head of the table. The

"Reality? I never chose this, I didn't even ask to be here so what are you talking about?" Ryu said, glaring at the older man. Hearing this from Ryu, Drew sighed as he had not expected for things to go this way. "Not everybody is privileged enough to choose their reality. People just find themselves in crazy situations and can do nothing about it. Some get lucky with a better life and some the total opposite. The fun thing about life is, no matter how crazy life gets, you can always get to shape your reality to how you want it. When life hands you a lemon, you turn it to lemonade or whatever it is they say." He explained, hoping for the young man to understand. "Look at you now, being scared and towering away from the reality given to you..." "I'm not scared," Ryu interrupted with an offended frown but Drew ignored him. "But the truth is, you can always change it if you want. The ability to do so is right in the palm of your hands, it's like a power we humans yield. And the only w

  • Reality.

Three months flew by with Ryu getting the mentorship he needed from Drew. He was taught everything he needed to know about business and about the company in general. He was given practical tests and theory exams and he passed them to both his and Drew's surprise. One month into the mentorship, Drew could already see Ryu was taking it seriously. One could tell the young man was eager to learn. The way he asked questions out of his own curiosity and the way he answered the questions asked to him, Drew knew he had buckled up. He had a good brain too, he could easily grab onto things, even the ones that seemed like they weren't there and the ones Drew had purposely made to appear so. Every single day that came, it became as if Ryu woke up with a new willpower to learn and this was impressive to Drew. During the three months of mentorship, some of Ryu's practical tests had involved him having to spend his day in the company with the Chairman. He attended meetings with the Chairman and
