His mind went blank for a brief moment before rage filled him and without thinking twice, Ryu walked towards them in haste, and from behind he before them, interrupting their cheating moment.

"How dare you?!" Ryu yelled and immediately grabbed Richard, his friend by the collar and lifted him from the bench where he sat intimately beside Belle.

"Ryu? What are you doing? Have you gone mad? Let him go!" Belle yelled at Ryu in shock and quickly grabbed his arms, trying to yank him away from Richard.

Finally letting go of Richard, Ryu glared hard at his friend, not imagining he could betray him in such a way.

"How could you?" Ryu asked in whispers but got silence as a response, all Richard did was smile smugly at Ryu, not seeming remorseful and this angered Ryu even more.

However, Ryu let out a low breath, trying to calm himself down as he had a bigger fish to fry. He looked away from Richard and turned to face Belle who was clinging onto Richard worriedly.

With his deep gaze shooting daggers at her, he grabbed Belle by her arms and demanded, "Where is my money?" Ryu asked as he dragged her out of Richard's arms.

"What money are you talking about you idiot, let me go!" Belle responded while trying to get out of Ryu's tight hold all to no avail.

"Liar! You took money out of my bank account without telling me. Where is my money?" He asked, his eyes bloodshot as he glared at Belle whose face was etched with guilt.

However, the little guilt Belle felt soon vanished like they never existed and she gave Ryu a sharp look, "So what? What if I took your money?" She asked disgust marred heavily on her face as she looked away.

"Well, I want my money back and now!" Said Ryu, he could already feel his body shaking from all the pent-up anger, he was trying so hard to stop himself from doing anything crazy.

As he stared at Belle's side profile, her short brown hair shiny from the sun's reflection, he couldn't believe she could go this far. He very much understood her hatred for him but she was doing way too much by stealing his money and cheating on him with his very close friend.

Well, ex-friend because there was no way he would forgive Richard for such betrayal.

"I don't have the money, it's gone. Now stop this madness of yours and get out!" Belle yelled as she pointed in the direction that led out of the garden.

Her words took Ryu by surprise, he was so taken aback by how indifferent she suddenly was towards him that he forgot how to speak for a brief moment. "What?" He whispered with a frown full of disbelief and confusion.

"You heard her, leave and stop causing a scene. You've interrupted our moment over some penny," Richard said as he came to stand beside Belle and grabbed her by her waist with a nonchalant look.

"Penny?" Ryu questioned facing Richard, "You call three hundred thousand some penny? I need that money urgently for my mother's treatment, do you understand?" Ryu roared, clenching his fists tightly as he tried to hold back his anger.

"Three hundred thousand? That's it? I thought you was yapping about millions man," Richard commented with a chuckle full of mockery which Ryu didn't take lightly.

Ryu felt as if they were all taking him for a joke and right after Richard's words, Ryu quickly launched at him, with his hands in a fists, he lifted them above his head and they landed heavily on Richard's jaws, making him stumble to the ground.

Belle yelped at the sight of Ryu attacking Richard with her eyes wide open from shock.

"Ryu! That's enough!" Someone yelled from the garden's entrance which was the kitchen's backdoor, this caught Ryu's attention. He was prepared to launch at Richard for more punches but stopped midway to stare at Dave who walked in on them.

"What is this nonsense?" Dave asked, he stared at his sister, Belle, and back at Ryu, looking for answers.

"It's Ryu, he just barged in demanding for the money I took from his bank account to pay up Dad's debt," Belle explained, immediately putting all the blame on Ryu but this didn't surprise Ryu much.

What shook him was Belle's words, she had taken all of his life savings to pay off their father's debt.

"You did what?" Ryu questioned, disbelief written on his face, he was filled with so much anger that his face turned red and his eyes watery and he wouldn't stop gritting his teeth. These people were testing him.

"So what? Don't tell me you are acting all up over that little money. If it's so important to you then go get a better job and make better money, stop being childish," Dave spat, irritated by Ryu.

Ryu was after all a live-in son-in-law, he worked at their father's wood-cutting business and lived rent-free in their house, he never provided whatsoever yet he had the nerve to complain over some penny.

Facing Dave, Ryu breathed as he tried to calm himself down, "My mother needs urgent money for her treatment, you need to return my money," he said with finality, not wanting to hear anything else except his money.

"You leech, shouldn't you be grateful? We sheltered you and fed a loser like you, gave you a job and you even married my sister even when you aren't worthy of her, how dare you demand for your money?" Dave said and one could feel the spite in his voice and words.

It was clear Dave despised Ryu, he wished his sister had not married such a useless person.

If this was in the past, Ryu would have felt ashamed but he felt no single ounce of shame at the moment, getting his money back was important to him.

"You aren't better than me either, you work for your father in his wood-cutting business, you are being sheltered and fed here so we are the same..." Ryu retorted back but was quickly shut by Dave who threw a hard punch at him, causing him to stagger to the ground with blood on his lips.

"You really have gotten some nerves," Said Dave, clearly offended by Ryu's words. He took a few steps closer to Ryu and gave him two resounding slaps with the sharp sound filling the place and taking everyone by surprise, including Ryu who never expected the sudden slap.

Not entirely satisfied, Dave grabbed Ryu by the collar and dragged him out of the house, he pushed Ryu out the gate and shut it with a loud bang, and left without saying a word or looking back.

  • Hallucinating?

The grand hall glittered under golden chandeliers as soft classical music floated through the air, the kind of atmosphere meant only for people who never had to worry about money a day in their lives. Belle held Richard’s arm as they walked in together, her heels clicking confidently against the polished floor while waiters moved around with trays of wine. She loved places like this, places that reminded her she had escaped the embarrassment called her past, and tonight she felt particularly pleased seeing familiar wealthy faces greeting Richard with respect.“You see?” she whispered with a faint smile, leaning slightly toward him. “This is the life people like us are meant for. Not struggling with useless people who drag you down.”Richard smirked, accepting a glass from a passing waiter. “Some people are simply born to be stepped on. That’s reality.”Belle chuckled softly. “Imagine if that loser could see us now.”“Ryu?” Richard scoffed without even thinking about it. “He’s probably

Ryu stepped out of the car and stared at the tall glass building in front of him, his hands tucked inside his pockets as if that would somehow calm the uneasiness crawling beneath his skin. Mr. John stood beside him, already walking ahead like a man who had done this a thousand times, while Ryu lagged behind, silently wishing Drew had been the one sent with him instead. Ever since the Chairman told him he would be inspecting a branch alone, his chest had not stopped feeling tight. This was not a classroom test anymore.Inside the building, the receptionist barely spared him a glance. Her eyes moved past him and rested respectfully on Mr. John instead, and Ryu could already feel how today would go. A few staff members whispered among themselves as they walked by, their eyes lingering on him a second longer than necessary. He heard it clearly; Chairman’s pet. The words were not even said quietly enough, almost like they wanted him to hear it.They made him wait.Ten minutes turned to th

Ryu stepped out of the conference room with Drew walking a few steps behind him. The hallway suddenly felt quieter than before, almost unreal after the intense atmosphere he had just endured. He stopped midway and placed his hand against the wall, letting out a long breath.“I really thought my soul left my body back there,” Ryu muttered.Drew folded his arms. “But it didn’t.”“I was shaking.”“I noticed.”“And you let me walk in there alone anyway?”Drew raised a brow. “Would you have preferred I held your hand?”Ryu shot him a look. “Don’t push your luck, old man.”For the first time since the meeting, Drew allowed a faint smile. “You did well.”Ryu blinked, slightly stunned. “That’s it? Just well? I nearly collapsed!”“You spoke. You answered. You didn’t run away. That alone was the goal today.”Ryu leaned back against the wall, staring at the ceiling. “They were looking at me like I was trash.”“They still are,” Drew replied calmly.Ryu’s head snapped toward him. “Encouraging as a

  • Nobody Praised Him.

The heavy door closed behind him with a soft but terrifying click that echoed louder in his ears than it actually was, and at that moment Ryu realized he was truly alone inside the battlefield Drew had prepared him for. The conference room was large, far larger than it had seemed from outside, with a long polished table stretching across the room and a massive screen mounted on the wall. Around the table sat men and women old enough to be his parents, some even his grandparents, all dressed sharply and radiating authority that suffocated the air. Their eyes followed his every movement as if measuring his worth in seconds, and he could almost hear their thoughts screaming the same thing; Who is this boy? Ryu swallowed, his throat suddenly dry, his palms damp, but remembering Drew’s words, he forced his feet to move forward instead of retreating. Each step felt unnatural, like walking on unfamiliar ground, yet he continued until he reached the empty seat at the head of the table. The

"Reality? I never chose this, I didn't even ask to be here so what are you talking about?" Ryu said, glaring at the older man. Hearing this from Ryu, Drew sighed as he had not expected for things to go this way. "Not everybody is privileged enough to choose their reality. People just find themselves in crazy situations and can do nothing about it. Some get lucky with a better life and some the total opposite. The fun thing about life is, no matter how crazy life gets, you can always get to shape your reality to how you want it. When life hands you a lemon, you turn it to lemonade or whatever it is they say." He explained, hoping for the young man to understand. "Look at you now, being scared and towering away from the reality given to you..." "I'm not scared," Ryu interrupted with an offended frown but Drew ignored him. "But the truth is, you can always change it if you want. The ability to do so is right in the palm of your hands, it's like a power we humans yield. And the only w

  • Reality.

Three months flew by with Ryu getting the mentorship he needed from Drew. He was taught everything he needed to know about business and about the company in general. He was given practical tests and theory exams and he passed them to both his and Drew's surprise. One month into the mentorship, Drew could already see Ryu was taking it seriously. One could tell the young man was eager to learn. The way he asked questions out of his own curiosity and the way he answered the questions asked to him, Drew knew he had buckled up. He had a good brain too, he could easily grab onto things, even the ones that seemed like they weren't there and the ones Drew had purposely made to appear so. Every single day that came, it became as if Ryu woke up with a new willpower to learn and this was impressive to Drew. During the three months of mentorship, some of Ryu's practical tests had involved him having to spend his day in the company with the Chairman. He attended meetings with the Chairman and
