Chapter - 11

*Snap! The pen in her hand broke.

"Are you alright?" Alex walked towards her and held her hand to look.

The PR head tried to pull away, but Alex had gripped her hand quite well, "Quit moving and let me see," Alex rebuked her.

The other ladies in the room giggled when they saw the scene unfold in front of her. This was the second time the guy got intimate with their boss, and she could do nothing.

"I am fine, Mr Rutherford. Please stop creating a scene and take your seat," The PR head told Alex.

"Indeed, nothing more than a scratch. I must say you don't look like it, but you are quite masculine,"

"Let's not beat around the bush and get back to the job at hand," the PR head insisted, and before Alex could say anything, she continued, "Mr Rutherford, it's true that we said that we are going to overlook the educational background of the applicants, but don't you think your resume is very much lacking in that aspect? Instead, you have a bunch of informal certifications here."

When the ladies heard their boss, they made faces. If it was already said, why is their boss nitpicking on this cutie?

"To be honest, I don't have them," Alex replied, "I told you, the reason I tried to do my best in the first round of the interview was to compensate for what my resume was lacking."

"Can I ask you why you don't have the records? You don't look like someone who would drop out of school or college," the PR head said.

"Well, it's kind of a long story, "Alex said, then he laid back on his chair a little and with his arms crossed, he started, "It was during the same time last year that I got into an accident, and ended up in a hospital with no memories of my past. And the couple who took care of me during that time later took me to their home and adopted a giant like me, hehehe... They gave me a name, an identity, a home to stay and above all, treated me like their own soon, maybe even better. You know..." Alex kept on rambling about how great his parents were, nonstop.

"Mr Rutherford..." It was only when he was interrupted did he notice that he had gone off-course the main point.

"Ohh... Sorry... Well, I will always be grateful to them," Alex didn't forget to mention this, "Now, coming back to the topic. As you can see, I don't know anything about my past. What I did? Where I come from? Nothing at all. I may have been a small-time thug, a wanted criminal or maybe an assassin, "Alex said, making a gun using his hands and pointing it towards the three ladies and winked.

"In short, this is the reason I don't have anything related to my educational details. There is a note from the doctor who treated me at the end. You can refer to it for a detailed report." Alex said.

Just as Alex said, there was indeed a note by a doctor at the end. The PR head went through it quickly while the other three ladies stared at Alex with sympathy, pity, love and what not dripping from their eyes.

The PR head quickly asked Alex a couple of other questions before closing his file, marking the end of the interview.

"Thank you, Mr Rutherford," The PR head said, "We will let you know the status of your application within a week."

"I will be waiting," Alex nodded at her, "Thank you, and I hope you all have a good day," and with the final greetings exchanged, Alex walked out of the room.

Soon after Alex left, the other three ladies also left the room after some discussion with the PR head. When she was alone, the PR head picked up her phone and called someone.

"So, how was it? Anyone up to your standards?" As soon as the phone was picked up, she cut to the chase.

"Two of them. I will send you the names", a woman with a cold, unenthusiastic voice was heard saying from the other side.

The camera was not just for recording the interviews, but it was also broadcasting it live to a certain someone in the company.

"You know, I could have handled this on my own. You should have trusted me on this," The PR complained, but care was evident in her tone.

"I trust you," the woman from the other side said.

"Then you should try to lean on me a bit more, and I am not saying this just as a colleague of yours, but also someone who cares about you a lot more than you can imagine," The PR head told the woman.

"I know. I will try to,"

"Ok! Now that we have established that. I hope you send your recommendations before office hours. I don't plan on working overtime just for this,"

"I will," the woman said and hung up.

The PR head continued to stare at her phone even after the call ended, and finally shaking her head, she tidied the table, grabbed her stuff and walked out of the room closing the door behind.

Chapter - 206The Rutherford breakfast table was a minefield of unspoken tension.George sat at the head, hidden behind his newspaper, but Alex could feel his father's eyes peering over the top, sharp and analytical. Martha, oblivious, hummed as she poured juice, her mood still light from Audrey's visit. And Damien... Damien was a ghost. He startled when Alex passed him the salt. He kept his eyes glued to his plate. When Martha asked him a question, he answered in monosyllables. The easy, taunting banter that had defined the brothers' relationship was gone, replaced by a suffocating, fearful silence.Alex, acting as the pillar of normalcy, ate his toast calmly. He knew he had broken his brother. The fear radiating from Damien was a tool, a new, sharp-edged piece of leverage."Damien," George said, his voice mild from behind the paper. "You look terrible. That Indian food must have been truly... aggressive."Damien flinched. "Yeah, Dad. It... it was.""You, on the other hand, Al

Chapter - 205Damien didn't say another word. He followed Alex into the house, the "thump-thump-thump" of his own heart deafening in the silent entryway.Alex, by contrast, seemed perfectly relaxed. He toed off his shoes, dropped his keys in the bowl by the door, and stretched, his back letting out a small pop. He was acting as if they’d just returned from a boring movie. He headed to the kitchen.Damien watched, frozen, as Alex opened the refrigerator, pulled out a bottle of water, and drank half of it in one long, unhurried gulp. The sheer, terrifying normalcy of it broke Damien’s paralysis."How?" Damien’s voice was a croak.Alex set the bottle on the counter. "How what?""How... that! Jaleel. Those guys. You... you’re not... what are you, Alex?" Damien’s hands were shaking so badly he had to clench them into fists. "You're not a student. You're not some naive kid."Alex turned to face him fully. The kitchen light was dim, casting half of his face in shadow. His eyes were no longer

Simultaneously, Alex’s forehead connected with the bridge of the man's nose.CRUNCH.The sound of breaking bone echoed in the narrow alley, sharp and wet. • Never let anyone disrespect your mother

Chapter - 203 As Alex and Damien cautiously followed the big man into the dimly lit alleyway, a sense of unease settled deep in their guts. The flickering lights cast eerie shadows, making the whole place feel like a freaking horror movie. The big man, looking like a giant beast, led them further into the narrow space. "Alright, cough it up, you little prying rats. What the hell do you think you're doing, snooping around in other people's business?" The big man roared at them, his voice booming with aggression. "Who sent you? Dogs of Hell?" Damien furrowed his brow in frustration. "Dogs of Hell? Who in the hell are they?" he retorted. "Look, man, like we said earlier, we are not here to cause any trouble. We're sorry if we crossed a line." Alex interrupted, trying to lighten the tension. "Dogs of Hell? That's a funny name," he remarked with a hint of sarcasm in his voice. "Wait... If you think about it, it's actually cool... Dogs Of Hell." The big man ignored Alex's attempt at hu

Chapter - 202"Dude, this is messed up. I can't believe we're actually doing this. Stalking her? Seriously? If we are caught, we won't get out of it easily," Alex and Damien rode Alex's motorcycle and followed behind Audrey's car as soon as she left the house."Oh, come on, Alex! Don't be such a buzzkill. It's not like we're doing anything harmful. I just want to find out more about this Audrey girl and see what she's up to," Damien gently tapped Alex's shoulder and urged him to hurry up."I get it, curiosity can be compelling, but this feels wrong. On top of that, if we are caught, it won't end up with just a beating. Haven't you been on the internet lately? Even looking at girls in the gym apparently is a crime these days," Alex spoke up as he drove."Look, Alex, I get it. But Mom is involved in this. I want to find out every nook and cranny about this girl who appeared out of nowhere," Damien said, "And you get beat up in the process. I am sure it's worth the sacrifice. Don't you t

I had so much fun that I lost track of the time, "After dinner, everyone was laughing among themselves, having a good time when Audrey finally took note of the time."Oh, c'mon, it's not even nine. Stay for a bit more," Martha who was sitting beside Audrey held her hand and said, "Or even better, just stay the night here.""I would love to but I have already made some plans with a friend of mine," Audrey expressed her regret, "If I had known it would be such a pleasant evening, I would have definitely ditched her earlier. But it's too late to cancel now.""I hope you understand," Audrey asked."If you say it like that, there is nothing more that I can say, "Martha was downcasted, but she had this simple smile on her face, "But promise me that you will visit more often while you are in town.""Absolutely," Audrey agreed as she gracefully stood up, "With how funny your son is, there is no doubt that I am going to visit again
