Sir Godric face, a bruised and swollen mess, twisted with fear. "Everyone," he pleaded, his voice a desperate whine. "This beast, Arthur, has an uncommon skill for combat. What if he goes and applies to be a personal guard for some of the kingdom's richest lords? Who among you can stop him from doing that?"

A cold silence fell over the hall. While many of the guests were powerful, none could claim to know all the nobles and wealthy merchants in the land, let alone command them. No one dared to speak.

Just then, a low, honeyed laugh cut through the tense quiet. All heads turned to a woman who sat in a chair by herself, her legs crossed with an alluring grace.

She was in her late twenties or perhaps early thirties, dressed in a magnificent gown of crimson velvet, her dark hair pinned high with golden combs. Her lips, painted a striking vermillion, curled in a knowing smile.

Someone like her who value social standing above all would have done it with Gideon just to get him to marry him. And no way in hell will Lord Gideon play the gentle man. Elara scoffed. “And why wouldn't he believe the heir i will born to him is his? We are husband and wife under the grace of the Council, of course he would believe."“The future heir better be his Elara. It was already close to the twelfth bell of the night, the time when some lords were asleep that was when Arthur finally returned to his manor. His neat leather jacket that was neat when he left was now filled with dust, and the scent of horse and forge smoke was on him. Inside his manor, the candlights was already on. Elara’s friends that were there in the light afternoon were all gone when he returned. Arthur paused on the flagged stone floor as he entered inside the parlor. To his surprise, it was Elara’s parents, Lord Alistair and his wife, were there, sweeping straw and gathering discarded pewter cups near the hearth. Bloody hell! Arthur frowned. “You do not need to do this,” Arthur said, his voice dry and weary. “I have servants aplenty for such simple tasks.” Elara’s mother who had never done such in the past six years, rushed over, a flagon of weak ale in her hands. “My dear son,” she cooed, her face a mask of fake sweetness. “You must be drained from your long day s

To Gideon’s surprise, Kenric stopped, pulling a small leather pouch from his belt and offering a silver shilling. He then spoke with a chillingly easy smile. “Tell me, cousin, is the Lady Elara truly the most beautiful maiden in all the central shires?” Gideon was still recovering from the rejection of the corner family, but the sight of his cousin offering him a silver shilling, left him perplexed. Kenric had always openly disdained Gideon often refusing the costly gifts Gideon would offer in the past. Why did Kenric offer him this silver shilling now? Gideon accepted the silver shilling and spoke, forcing a casual laugh. “Lady Elara is not merely the most beautiful maiden of the Central Marches, but I swear on my honor, she is the most captivating woman in the entire Kingdom of Atheria! I have seen countesses and queen’s ladies, yet none can compare to Elara!” “Even the great beauties of the Duke Court in the North cannot hold a candle to her grace!” Kenric’s smile grew wide a

Pissed that she is yet to find any evidence that could set him free. Pissed that he allowed himself to be seduced by Elara and he did it with her last night. Arthur clenched his palm tightly. He was seated with Elara at the back of the finely appointed six-horse. Despite the recent sorrow, a pure joy shone in Elara’s eyes.
