The Awakening Hall of the Astral Empire had seen a thousand miracles.

It had never seen a disgrace like this.

Seventeen-year-old Kael Ashworth stood alone on the white jade Awakening Platform, his hand trembling just inches away from the Heart of Stars — the massive, floating crystal that had judged every royal bloodline for five hundred years.

The hall was full. Three hundred nobles in gold-threaded silk, twelve generals in rune-etched armor, seven High Priests in white, and on the highest throne, his father.

Emperor Aldric Ashworth, the ruler of half the continent. A man who had not called Kael "son" in five years. Not since his mother died in that cold, small room at the back of the palace with no healers, no priests, just a single servant boy holding her hand.

Kael could still hear his mother's last words: They sealed you, Kael. They are afraid of what you are.

He didn't understand it then. He was twelve.

Now he was seventeen, and today was supposed to be his salvation.

Last week, his eldest brother, First Prince Darius Ashworth, had stepped onto this same platform. The Heart of Stars had exploded with golden light, transformed into a colossal dragon made of pure mana, and roared across the capital. The words appeared:

class dragon lord rank

The Empire cheered for three days. The Emperor hugged Darius and named him Crown Prince on the spot.

Yesterday, Second Prince Leon awakened S-Rank ARCHMAGE. The nobles threw flowers.

Kael just needed a C-Rank. Even a D-Rank. Anything that wasn't useless. Anything that would let him keep his small manor outside the palace, his books, his life.

"Fourth Prince Kael Ashworth, the High Priest's voice echoed, old and bored. "Place your hand. Let the stars judge your fate.

Kael swallowed and placed his palm on the crystal.

It was cold. Too cold.

For a second, nothing happened.

Then the Heart of Stars pulsed. But not gold. Not blue. Not even the red of a low E-Rank.

Gray. A dull, muddy, dirty gray light, like dishwater. Like dust.

A collective gasp went through the hall.

Then words appeared in the air above the crystal, glowing for every single person to see, unable to be hidden.

CLASS AWAKENED: SERVANT

RANK: F-RANK

DESCRIPTION: The lowest class in recorded history. Meant to serve masters. Skill: Serve - Increases master's comfort by

Silence. A dead, absolute silence that was heavier than any shouting.

Then one noble in the back couldn't hold it. A snort. A laugh.

F-F-Rank?! SERVANT

And the entire Awakening Hall collapsed into laughter. Not polite laughter. Brutal, cruel, merciless laughter that echoed off the marble pillars.

Hahaha! The Fourth Prince is a SERVANT!

The Empire has never had an F-Rank! And it's a Prince!"

His mother was a lowborn maid, what did you expect? A rat gives birth to a rat!

Kael stood frozen. His hand was still on the crystal. The gray light was reflecting on his face his thin face, his black hair that he got from his mother, his dark eyes that were now wide with shock. F-Rank. Servant. The class that carried other people's swords. Cleaned their boots. Poured their tea.

His legs almost gave out.

Above him, on the throne, Emperor Aldric slowly stood up. He didn't laugh. That was worse. His face had no anger, no disappointment. Just cold, political emptiness. Like Kael was a stain that needed to be wiped away for the Empire's image.

Silence, Aldric said. One word, and three hundred nobles went quiet instantly.

He walked down the golden steps, one by one. Each footstep was loud. He stopped right in front of Kael. He didn't look at the crystal. He looked at his son, like he was looking at a stranger.

Kael Ashworth, Aldric said, his voice carrying to every corner. "You have brought shame to the Ashworth bloodline. An F-Rank Servant cannot bear the name of Prince. It is an insult to the Empire and to the Heavens.

Kael's throat was dry. Father..

From this moment, you are stripped of your title as Fourth Prince of the Astral Empire, Aldric continued, cutting him off. You are no longer my son in name or law. You will be given the territory of Ashenfall on the northern cursed border. You will take twenty villagers there. If you can make that land survive for one year, you may live as a lowly Baron. If not, you will die there, as all lords before you have.

Ashenfall.

Even the laughing nobles gasped this time.

Ashenfall was not a territory. It was a death sentence. A barren, cracked, poisoned land at the very edge of the Empire where the Mana Storm never stopped. The soil was dead. No crops grew. Monsters from the Deadlands attacked every night. In the last ten years, the Empire had sent five lords there. All five died within three months. One went mad and ran into the storm.

Father, please, Kael whispered, his voice cracking. It was the first time in five years he called him father. "Ashenfall is..."

It is mercy," Aldric said coldly. "I could have you executed for treason of blood. Take him away.

Two royal guards grabbed his arms. They didn't grab a prince. They grabbed a servant boy.

As they dragged him down from the platform, past the rows of nobles who were now whispering and smirking, Kael saw Darius.

First Prince Darius, twenty-three, tall, handsome, golden armor shining, S-Rank Dragon Lord, beloved by all. He was standing with his friends, a wine glass in his hand, smiling. That small, perfect, cruel smile Kael had known since he was a child.

As Kael passed, Darius leaned in, just enough for only Kael to hear.

I told you, little brother," Darius whispered, his breath smelling like wine. "A maid's son dies a maid's son. A Servant's son dies a Servant. Ashenfall is too good for you. Don't worry I will send someone to make sure you don't suffer too long. It's what big brothers do.

Kael didn't answer. He just stared at Darius's smile and burned it into his memory. Every tooth. Every line.

He would remember it.

The cart that took him to Ashenfall was not a royal carriage. It was a grain cart, with no roof, pulled by an old, lame mule.

With him were only three people who chose to follow him.

Old Man Jorah, seventy years old, his mother's former guard, his back bent but his eyes still sharp, holding a rusted sword. And two old palace maids, Mira and Tala, who had taken care of Kael when his mother died, crying quietly.

Three days. Three days of travel north. The golden roads of the capital turned to mud roads. Mud roads turned to cracked black earth. The green trees turned to dead, twisted trunks. The sky, which was always blue in the capital, turned permanently gray, as if the sun forgot this place.

On the evening of the third day, they saw it.

Ashenfall.

Twenty broken huts made of mud and dead wood, leaning against each other like wounded animals. A single, crooked wooden fence that wouldn't stop a rabbit, let alone a monster. No fields. No well. Just black, cracked earth as far as the eye could see, and in the distance, ancient ruins half-buried in ash.

Twenty people came out of the huts. Men, women, a few children. All skin and bones, eyes empty, clothes torn. They looked at the cart, and then they knelt, because even a disgraced prince was still a lord to them.

Kael stepped down. His fine prince shoes, the last nice thing he owned, sank into the black dust.

"This... this is it?" Maid Mira whispered, tears falling. "My Prince, how will we live here?"

Old Jorah put a shaking hand on Kael's shoulder. "Your Highness, we can still run. The Free Cities in the south will take us. We don't have to die here."

Kael looked at the twenty villagers kneeling in the dust. He looked at the dead land. He looked at his own status panel that was floating weakly in front of him, still gray.

Name: Kael Ashworth Class: Servant F-Rank

Skill: Serve Lv.1 - Increases master's comfort by 5%

He clenched his fists so hard his nails cut into his palms and drew blood.

No, he said, his voice quiet but firm. The wind tried to steal it, so he said it louder. "If I run, I prove them right. That I am a servant who ran away to die in a ditch."

He walked forward to the villagers.

My name is Kael Ashworth! he shouted, so they could all hear him over the howling wind. "From today, I am the Lord of Ashenfall! I know this land is cursed! I know you have no food! I know monsters come at night and the Empire has forgotten you!

The villagers looked up, surprised. No lord had ever shouted to them. Lords before only gave orders.

But I have nothing left! I have no title! No money! No army! I have only this dead land! So we will make it live! If you work with me for one day, I will give you one day of protection! If you trust me for one month, I will give you a wall that monsters cannot break! Who is with me?

No one cheered. They were too tired, too hungry to cheer. But an old woman in the front, holding a small, thin child, slowly nodded. Then another man nodded. Then another.

It was enough.

That night, Kael slept in a hut with a leaking roof. The wind screamed like a dying beast. In the distance, he could hear the howls of C-Rank Ash Wolves, the monsters that hunted Ashenfall every night.

He stared at his gray status panel.

"Servant..." he laughed bitterly, tears finally coming to his eyes for the first time since the Awakening Hall. "Mother... is this what you wanted for me? To serve?"

Just then footsteps outside. Not monster footsteps. Too light. Too human.

Kael's eyes snapped open. Jorah had warned him. Darius said he would send someone.

The thin wooden door of his hut exploded inward.

Three men in black, faces covered, knives glowing with blue mana — E-Rank assassins. Fast. Professional.

Sorry, little prince, the middle one whispered, raising his knife. "Order from the First Prince. He said Ashenfall needs a new lord. A dead one."

The knife came down, straight for Kael's heart.

Kael couldn't move. He was too weak. Too tired. His F-Rank body couldn't dodge.

The knife pierced his shirt. Pierced his skin. Blood spilled onto the black earth of Ashenfall.

And in that second, when Kael truly thought he would die — when his blood touched the cursed land of his ancestors

The gray status panel in front of him didn't just flicker. It shattered into a thousand pieces.

A new voice, ancient, cold, and god-like, a voice that had been sealed for seventeen years inside his blood, spoke directly into his soul. The entire hut shook.
