The crowd around them gradually dispersed. People returned to wandering around the showroom as if nothing out of the ordinary had happened, as though the earlier commotion had never existed.

Pauline looked at Luke with a hint of surprise.

“Should we really just let them go?” she asked.

Luke nodded lightly. He was not comfortable being in front of Veronica’s parents for too long. For more than two years, the couple had treated him poorly. If they stayed any longer, he was not confident he could keep his temper in check.

Pauline let out a quiet sigh. Luke knew she wanted to teach them a lesson. Truth be told, he felt the same way. But they were still Veronica’s parents. If he went too far, Veronica might misunderstand and think he was taking revenge simply because she broke up with him.

Pauline felt a twinge of sympathy for their new President. Why did Luke endure such humiliation without fighting back? Was he really that devoted to his girlfriend?

What she could not understand was why Luke insisted on hiding his identity even from them. If those two knew the truth about his status, they would probably kneel in front of him and beg him to marry their daughter.

“Mr. Cruise, I’m really sorry about what happened," Pauline said sincerely. “Would you like us to blacklist them from the company?”

Luke raised an eyebrow at her.

“That won’t be necessary,” he replied, then turned his attention back to the sports car.

If they did that, Veronica’s parents might assume he was the reason they were banned from ENDX Corporation. Especially Roger. Despite his unpleasant personality, Luke knew the man was sharp enough to piece things together. Pauline had addressed him almost politely, even though he was supposedly just a security guard. Blacklisting them now would only raise suspicion.

“And you don’t need to apologize,” Luke added with a small smile. “I should be the one thanking you. I appreciate what you did.”

“Y-you’re welcome, Mr. Cruise,” Pauline replied, quickly averting her gaze. A faint blush crept onto her cheeks.

A moment later, Luke’s phone rang. He pulled it out of his pocket and frowned slightly when he saw an unfamiliar number. After a brief pause, he answered.

“Who is this?”

“Good day, Young Master. I apologize for disturbing you,” the caller said. “My name is Philip Garcia. Lord Duncan personally gave me your number.”

There was restrained excitement in his voice, carefully wrapped in professionalism.

“I have served Lord Duncan for over thirty years. Your grandfather entrusted me with the responsibility of becoming the President of Light Metrobank Incorporated. I am calling to inform you that you may now access the assets you have deposited with Light Metrobank.”

Luke froze for a brief moment.

He had assumed Bernard was his grandfather’s longest-serving subordinate. He did not expect there to be someone else. What surprised him even more was that Philip himself was a highly respected and powerful businessman, though still a step below Bernard.

But that was not what truly caught him off guard. It was the word ‘assets.’

If Philip had not called, Luke might have completely forgotten about them.

“Does that mean my grandfather also owns Light Metrobank?” Luke asked. Like Philip, he kept his tone controlled, hiding his excitement.

Philip raised an eyebrow on the other end of the line.

“Yes, Young Master. Lord Duncan is indeed the owner. I’m surprised you weren’t aware,” he said, followed by a light chuckle.

Luke chuckled as well.

His grandfather had once mentioned owning several companies besides ENDX Corporation, and ENDX was only ranked fourth among them. But Luke was certain that Light Metrobank’s net worth was lower than ENDX’s.

That thought alone raised an unsettling question.

Just how powerful was their family, really?

“Lord Duncan mentioned that you are currently in Quezon,” Philip continued. “You know our downtown branch, correct?”

“Yes,” Luke replied. “I’m actually at ENDX Corporation right now.”

Light Metrobank was only a short jeepney ride away.

“That’s perfect,” Philip said warmly. “When you arrive, look for Louis Rivera. Just tell him your name. He’s a close friend of mine and our Senior Manager. He already knows about you and will take care of everything. I’m sure he’ll be happy to assist you.”

He paused briefly before continuing.

“For now, that’s all I can do for you. I would have preferred to assist you personally, but I am currently in Chicago attending to important matters. I hope you understand. And allow me to congratulate you on completing your poverty training. I look forward to working with you in the future, Young Master Cruise.”

The excitement in his voice was no longer hidden.

“That’s fine. I understand, and thank you very much,” Luke said. “But please, call me Luke, or Mr. Cruise in the future.”

“You’re far too humble, Young Master. Just like your grandfather,” Philip replied with praise, followed by a laugh. “Calling you by your name would be inappropriate. I’ll use Mr. Cruise.”

“Alright.”

After ending the call, Luke turned toward Pauline.

He nearly laughed at her reaction. She had already turned away and was slowly walking off, pretending she had not heard a single word of the conversation.

“I know you were listening,” Luke said with a chuckle. “It’s fine. You don’t need to pretend.”

“H-huh?” Pauline turned back with a feigned look of confusion. “Listening to what?”

“Come on. Just admit it. Don’t worry, I’m not upset.”

Pauline studied his face for a moment before lowering her head shyly.

“I’m really sorry, Mr. Cruise. I didn’t mean to eavesdrop. I promise it won’t happen again.”

There was genuine worry in her voice.

The people who happened to witness the scene were baffled. From their perspective, it looked as if Pauline was apologizing to Luke.

But who would believe that?

Pauline was the executive manager of ENDX Corporation, while Luke was supposedly just a security guard.

“It’s fine,” Luke said with a smile. “Like I said, I’m not angry.”

Luke did not mind Pauline knowing about his conversation with Philip. After all, she already knew he was the President of ENDX Corporation.

Pauline finally relaxed, then looked at Luke with admiration shining in her eyes.

His family was unimaginably wealthy. She never would have guessed that even Light Metrobank Incorporated belonged to them.

So rich, so kind, and so handsome, yet he ended up with a woman who had parents like that. Surely the daughter wasn’t much better either.

She puffed out her cheeks slightly in annoyance.

“I think I should get going,” Luke said. “We’ll continue this on Saturday.”

He stared at the red sports car for a few seconds.

“I’ll only come by on weekends for training. Please prepare my security guard uniform as well.”

Pauline nodded repeatedly, her eyes fixed on Luke’s face as if she wanted to memorize every detail.

“I’ll walk you out, Mr. Cruise,” she offered, but Luke declined.

Pauline did not insist. She simply stood there, dazed, watching him walk away.

“I’ll do my best to seduce you, Mr. Cruise,” she murmured to herself, followed by a quiet giggle.

Luke frowned.Wasn’t it class time? Tony was supposed to be back by two.Luke placed the bags of food on the small table near the window. He had bought them for everyone in the dorm. He wanted to celebrate the end of his three-year poverty training with them, but he did not want to raise suspicions. That was why he only bought simple, inexpensive food.“Tony, let’s eat,” Luke said casually. “I brought take-out. Let’s save some for Dominic and Jacob.”Tony turned toward him and sat up. His discomfort deepened when Luke bent down to meet him at eye level.“I’m not angry because you insulted me,” Luke said evenly. “I’m used to people like you. What disgusts me is how you use your status to control the lives of those below you. You think you’re on top of the world. You believe you can do whatever you want, even ruin someone else’s life. He did not need to speak to dominate the room. The man was none other than Louis Rivera.“What’s all this commotion?” he asked calmly, shifting his sharp gaze to Noel as he walked toward him.The anger Noel felt toward Luke instantly morphed into unease the moment he saw Louis.
