Reed chuckled at the sound of the receipt being printed and wondered if he would ever get used to having enough money to spend on anything he wanted.
I could get used to this, he thought to himself.
"It really went through." Angie whispered to herself in a daze of disbelief.
Angie who had been mouthing off beside Martha would never have bellieved that someone that looked like Reed would actually have that sort of money. She immediately sank to her knees and clasped her hands together.
"Please, forgive me sir."
If she had known how things would end, she would have aligned herself with Reed right from the minute he walked in.
But Martha was Angie's senior at work and she had started insutling Reed first, so it had been easy for Angie to follow Martha's lead and insult him too.
And doing that had led her to oppose someone who could pay a seventy three million dollar bill without blinking. If he complained, she was sure to lose her job.
She was ready to throw herself at his feet and beg for mercy. She needed this job too much to try to be proud.
"What are you doing, Angie? Don't kneel for this fraud." Martha mouthed off but when Reed's eyes caught hers, she wanted to shrink.
She was foolishly holding unto bravado. She had met many wealthy people and Reed looked nothing like that, so her assumption was that the money he used must have been stolen.
She stared back and Reed and shrugged, she was convinced that he must be a scammer of some kind.
"Martha, he has paid his bill. What else is there to question? We should beg him." Angie tugged Martha's skirt, trying to pull her closer so that they could kneel and plead for mercy.
Maybe if they bowed to him he would forgive them and let them keep their jobs. A job she desperately needed and could not afford to lose.
Martha's fingers trembled but she still raised her head and looked down on Reed.
“This proves nothing, after all cards can be cloned. Systems can be hacked. Look at his eyes, doesn't he look like a thief?"
"That is enough Martha. Appologize to Mr Reed immediately." Jessi scolded. She reminded herself to put a request in so that they would look into Martha's attitude with guests.
Martha glared at Reed and felt overwhelmed with disgust that she would be forced to appologize to someone like him who she felt was beneath her.
As she grumbled and began to lower herself to the ground, Reed stroked his chin and interrupted her descent.
“Wait a minute, weren’t you saying something earlier about chewing your shoe and resigning from this job?”
Martha stiffened. She had only said all that because she thought he could not pay, did he really expect her to chew her shoe?
People started to murmur again.
"Is he really going to make her eat her shoe?"
"Nobody forced her to say she would resign and eat her shoe, she has to keep to her word."
"Serves them right for looking down at someone who can pay their entire salaries without blinking."
"What is this ruckus about!" A voice interrupted the bickering.
Everyone stopped and stared at the manager, Mr Brown as he stormed into the lobby looking irritated.
He walked with an air of self important with his badly fitting suit that could barely button up over his large belly. His eyes roved around until the landed on Reed. The manager was immediately sure that the cause of the trouble was the young man who looked out of place in the exclusive hotel's lobby.
"It's nothing sir, I was just dispersing everyone." Jessi explained.
She did not want to escalate the drama any further but as she turned, Martha spoke forcefully. She wanted to bring in a distraction she could hide behind.
"Sir, this begger is trying to scam the hotel and he refuses to leave." She pointed at Reed.
The manager looked at Reed from head to toe and thought, Just as I predicted.
"Security!"
The guards who had been standing by like statues immediately sprang into action but Jessi stepped forward.
"Please, there is no need for that, Mr Brown. Mr Reed has already paid for his stay."
"Paid? Do you want the hotel to be leveled with money laundering accusations?" The manager gritted his teeth.
"He is a fraud. That card can't be his." Martha interrupted.
A few people mumbled their agreement.
The manager studied Reed and wanted to pinch his nose from the imaginary stench of poverty. He felt assaulted by Reeds poor look, he could not even bother to wear his sunday's best if he was going to try to scam such a pretigious hotel.
“How dare you try to be smart? Do you know how easy it is for someone like you to disappear from a place like this?”
Reed’s patience ran out.
It seemed they were determined to keep him down at the lobby the whole day, his time was wasting.
They system said twelve hours and he had already spent over an hour getting to the hotel and they further delayed him. At this rate, his first mission would be a failure.
He remembered that the system had spoken of penalties for failed missions, and Reed did not want to find out what those penalties were.
He exhaled slowly.
He had paid.
He had stayed calm.
And yet…
They were still looking at him like he didn’t belong.
Something in his chest went cold.
Reed glanced at the system interface hovering in the corner.

He did the math quickly. The Golden Gate was worth maybe $600 million. He had more than enough.
"I have changed my mind." Reed said finally, he sounded bored.
"Look at him trying to back away, didn't I say he is a fraud? Why are the police taking so long?" Martha spoke in excitement.
Reed did not look at her, he just fixed Mr Brown with an icy look.
"Maybe I shouldn't just rent the penthouse, maybe I should buy the entire hotel."

Reed smiled as he noted that the figures on his dashboard had changed.
When the people around him heard what he said about wanting to buy the entire hotel, they were struck dumb.
The noise stopped and the air seemed to go still.
For a moment, it felt like time itself had paused, then the chaos spilled out.
"Did he really say he will buy the entire hotel?"
"Somebody check that man for drugs, he must be intoxicated."
The manager could not help himself. He bust out laughing.
"Young man, do you know how much this hotel costs?"
"I do not care." Reed said, unmoving. "I will buy it and give everyone here a pay raise."
Another ripple ran through the crowd.
Pay raise?
The staff exchanged stunned glances.
Even the guards hesitated.
For the first time, doubt flickered in the manager’s eyes.
The crowd went wild.
“This guy is either a lunatic… or dangerous.”
“No one jokes about buying this place.”
"I saw a man buy a casino once on a whim. He ended up owning half of Vegas."
"What family is he from? I bet he is a member of one of the big four."
The manager’s lips curled slightly. He had met a lot of dumb people in his life but this young man took the cake.
“Do you have any idea what you’re saying?”
"Guards! What are you still waiting for? get him."
"I'm afraid I can't let you do that, Sir." Jessi stood in a protective stance in front of Reed.
Reed raised his brow, surprised that Jessi was willing to stand by him.

Reed looked through the pictures on his desk, his expression unreadable. Even though the person's face was shielded by the hoodie and oversized glasses they had on, he knew who it was. The posture, the walk, the desperate energy, it was unmistakable. After her disastrous attempt at seduction, Reed had wondered what her next step would be. Apparently he was looking at it.The other set of photos showed a refined-looking young man in fine clothes stepping out of the same location as the person with the hoodie. Lucas Scott. The heir to the Scott family fortune, the man who had destroyed Miyu's career, the man who had slept with Selene. The man who thought he was untouchable."This is the video feed of the secretary's table," Lara said and placed a tablet on Reed's desk. Her movements were precise, professional, betraying none of the curiosity that burned in her eyes.Reed watched as Annie looked left and right before taking a photo of something on the secretary's desk. The footage was

What do you have for me?" Lucas demanded as soon as the hoodie-clad person slid into the booth and sat opposite him. His voice was sharp, impatient, the voice of a man who was used to getting what he wanted when he wanted it.The figure looked around the quiet diner as if to make sure they were not followed and would not be recognised by anyone before they pushed back their hoodie to reveal their face.Lucas's eyes narrowed. When he had received the text to meet up, he had expected someone else, one of his usual informants, perhaps, or a low-level employee looking to make a quick buck. He had certainly not expected Annie. The main star of Hitmaker Entertainment, and even though she had not attained the level of star power that the top stars on More Heat, he knew she was still very comfortable. The fact that she had come meant one thing, her position was being threatened. She could be a very good addition, taking her away from Hitmaker would cause a huge blow to their management. But

As soon as Annie was out of the office, Miyu's bravado deflated like a punctured balloon. Her shoulders dropped, her chin lowered, and the fire in her eyes flickered into something softer, more uncertain. She tried to leave Reed's side, her steps quick and flustered, but he tugged her hand, causing her to fall into his lap.Her breath hitched. Her eyes widened as if shocked to find herself in Reed's arms. For a moment, she forgot how to breathe, forgot how to think, forgot everything except the warmth of his body beneath hers."Mr. Hawke," she protested, even though her voice was soft, barely above a whisper. She placed her hands on his chest, trying to push herself up, but her arms felt weak, useless."You were brazen and ready to tear Annie's face off just a minute ago," Reed said, unable to resist teasing her. "But now you've turned into a shy kitten. What happened to the fierce warrior who stormed in here to rescue me?"The result amused him. Colour leapt onto her cheeks and spre

Reed's face remained unchanged as Annie shut the door behind her and stared at him with what was no doubt her seductive expression. Her eyes were half-lidded, her lips slightly parted, her body angled to show off her best features. It was a performance he had could bet had been performed countless times before. He wondered how much success she had had with this act. Then he remembered she had ensnared the former CEO with it. Marcus had a wife and had still fallen for this cheap act. From all indications, he had been weak, easily manipulated by a pretty face and a willing body. Reed was not Marcus."Take a seat, Annie," Reed said, his voice flat and unimpressed.Annie took her seat, making sure to lean forward to give Reed a view of her delectable cleavage. The movement was practiced, deliberate, designed to draw his eyes downward. She had used this technique on countless men, and it had never failed. Her artful manipulation made Reed think about Selene, and it took all his willpower

I'm sorry, Annie, but you can't get in." The assistant blocked Annie's path to the Peach studio with a firm stance that left no room for negotiation. The Peach Studio was the best studio among all the studios in the Hitmaker building, it was also the studio which was usually reserved for Annie.Annie, whose nose had been high up in the sky, pulled off her designer glasses and looked down at the lowly assistant standing before her. The woman was dressed in a simple way, her hair pulled back in a no-nonsense bun. She was nothing. Less than nothing. And yet she dared to block Annie's path.'So because Marcus has abandoned ship, even these roaches think they can talk down on me, a whole Annie? Talked to by this cretin?'Annie fumed at the insult, her perfectly manicured nails digging into her palm. This was unacceptable. Completely and utterly unacceptable. She was Annie. She had been at the top of Hitmaker’s Entertainment's roster for years. She had sold out concerts, released hit singl

“What did you think you were doing? Did I raise an idiot?"Cole Scott's reddened face resembled a heated engine that was about to erupt. Veins pulsed at his temples, and his hands were clenched into fists at his sides. Even the mahogany desk between them seemed to tremble under the weight of his fury.Opposite him, Lucas stood with clenched fists, his eyes downcast. He looked like a chastised schoolboy rather than the heir to the Scott family fortune, a position that usually made him feel untouchable. But in front of his father, he was reduced to nothing."Now I look like a blithering fool because my nincompoop son thinks with his dick instead of his brain," Cole continued, his voice rising with each word. "Do you have any idea how this looks? The entire entertainment industry is talking about you losing to a has-been and her mysterious backer. The Scott family name is being dragged through the mud because of your incompetence!""But, Father, it's not my fault," Lucas protested. He r
