Chapter 5: The First Task

​Leo sat on the edge of his bed, staring at the glowing screen. The strange interface still hadn’t disappeared. A moment ago, he had convinced himself it was some kind of glitch, but the screen looked too real—too organized, and too deliberate.

​The words slowly faded and rearranged themselves again:

​[SUPREMACY SYSTEM SUCCESSFULLY ACTIVATED]

[WELCOME, HOST LEO CARTER]

[YOUR JOURNEY TOWARD SUPREMACY BEGINS]

​Leo swallowed hard. “Okay… either I’m dreaming,” he muttered, “or something very strange is happening.”

​The interface shifted instantly.

[NAME: LEO CARTER]

[LEVEL: 1]

[SUPREMACY POINTS: 0]

[AVAILABLE TASKS: 1]

​Leo leaned forward, his brow furrowing. “Available tasks?”

​His heart began beating slightly faster. He slowly pressed the task icon. The screen flickered once before a new notification appeared.

​[TASK: FIRST FACE SLAP]

[DESCRIPTION: HUMILIATE MARCUS WHITMORE IN PUBLIC]

[TIME LIMIT: 24 HOURS]

[REWARD: $10,000]

[PENALTY FOR FAILURE: TASK REMOVAL AND SYSTEM DISAPPOINTMENT]

​Leo blinked several times. He read the message again, then once more to be sure.

​“…Humiliate Marcus?”

​His mind instantly replayed the brutal events from earlier that day. Marcus kneeling in front of Sarah. The diamond ring sparkling under the classroom lights. The cheers from the students. The laughter. And Leo… standing there in a ridiculous clown costume.

​Leo felt his chest tighten. “That guy already humiliated me once today.” He leaned back against the wall and stared at the ceiling. “So now, this System wants me to humiliate him back?”

​Leo looked at the screen again. [REWARD: $10,000].

​Ten thousand dollars. The number alone was enough to make his head spin. Leo had worked countless delivery jobs for years; even on a good week, he barely made a few hundred dollars. But this task offered ten thousand for a single act of humiliation.

​Leo rubbed his temples slowly. “This can’t be real.” Still, the System interface remained steady. He decided to test something.

​“System,” he said quietly.

[HOST INQUIRY DETECTED].

​Leo’s eyes widened slightly. “You can actually respond?”

​Another message appeared: [SUPREMACY SYSTEM PROVIDES TASKS THAT GUIDE HOST TOWARD WEALTH, POWER, AND STATUS].

​Leo stared at the words. Wealth. Power. Status. Everything he had been chasing for the past two years. Everything Sarah believed he would never achieve. Leo clenched his fists slightly. “So, humiliating Marcus is the first step?”

​The System responded again: [TASKS ARE DESIGNED TO BUILD HOST SUPREMACY].

​Leo exhaled slowly. “Right…”

​He stood up and began pacing around the small room. Marcus Whitmore. Everyone on campus knew him. His father owned several large companies, he drove a luxury car, and he wore expensive clothes. Most importantly, he had influence. Students admired him, professors treated him kindly, and even Sarah had chosen him without hesitation.

​Leo stopped pacing. The humiliation from earlier burned in his memory. He remembered standing in the classroom while everyone laughed. He remembered Sarah’s cold voice: “You have no future.”

​Leo looked down at his phone again. [DESCRIPTION: HUMILIATE MARCUS WHITMORE IN PUBLIC].

​Humiliate Marcus. Not fight him. Not attack him. Just humiliate him.

​Leo sat back down on the bed. “That’s actually possible… if I think carefully.”

​Marcus cared deeply about his image. He liked being admired, respected, and seen as superior. If Leo managed to embarrass him publicly, that would definitely count as humiliation. Leo began thinking through the possibilities. What if he exposed something embarrassing? Or challenged him in front of other students?

​Leo frowned slightly, but then another thought crossed his mind. Marcus loved showing off, especially in front of Sarah. He had clearly planned that proposal in the classroom because he enjoyed public attention. Which meant… public embarrassment would hurt him even more.

​Leo slowly smiled. “That might actually work.”

​His confidence grew. After all, the System had given him twenty-four hours. Marcus would definitely return to campus tomorrow, and Leo could easily find him. The real challenge was how to humiliate him properly.

​Leo looked at the screen again. [TIME LIMIT: 23:49:12]. The countdown had already started.

​He stood up and walked to the small window. Outside, the evening sky was slowly darkening. Streetlights flickered on one by one, and cars moved through the city as people rushed home. Life continued normally, but for Leo, everything had suddenly changed.

​Just one day ago, his biggest concerns had been delivery tips and grocery prices. Now, he had a strange System offering him ten thousand dollars for humiliating the richest guy on campus.

​Leo let out a quiet laugh. “My life has officially become weird.”

​He returned to the bed. “System,” he said.

​The interface responded in texts: [HOST COMMAND RECEIVED].

​Leo hesitated for a moment, then asked the question that had been bothering him. “If I complete this task… will there be more?”

​The screen flashed slightly. [CONFIRMED. TASK COMPLETION LEADS TO GREATER REWARDS].

​Leo felt his heartbeat quicken. Greater rewards. Ten thousand dollars was already unbelievable. What could come after that? More money? Power? Opportunities?

​His eyes slowly hardened with determination. For years, he had struggled just to survive, running deliveries and chasing a future that never seemed to get closer. But now, a chance had appeared. A strange one, but a chance nonetheless.

​Leo looked at the task once more. Marcus had taken Sarah from him. Marcus had humiliated him in front of everyone.

​Maybe it was time to return the favor.

His mind was already forming a plan. “Alright, Marcus,” he murmured quietly. “Let’s see how confident you look tomorrow.”

​A faint smile appeared on his face. Because this time, Leo Carter wasn’t the clown anymore.
