The air in the courtyard grew instantly cold and heavy. The ambient moisture in the atmosphere seemed to freeze into tiny crystals, and the stones beneath Lu Tian's boots began to groan under an invisible, crushing weight. A suffocating spiritual pressure cascaded over the walls like a tidal wave, causing Xiao Lan to gasp for air and collapse entirely onto the grass, her hands clutching her chest as she struggled to breathe.

From the arched entrance of the courtyard, a tall man walked forward with slow, deliberate steps. He wore long robes of deep purple silk, embroidered with silver threads that formed the emblem of the Lu Clan elders. His silver hair was pulled back tightly into a jade crown, and his face was set in a mask of pure, unadulterated rage. This was First Elder Lu Chang, the current acting head of the family and the most powerful man in the border city.

"You worthless, ungrateful parasite," Lu Chang said, his voice echoing across the courtyard like a roll of thunder. "I leave the estate for one morning to finalize a trade agreement, and I return to find you assaulting our business partners. You have truly outdone yourself in bringing shame to our ancestors."

Lu Chang did not even look at the groaning guards on the floor. His gaze was locked entirely on Lu Tian, his eyes burning with a dark, lethal intensity. With a flick of his wide sleeve, the First Elder unleashed the full force of his cultivation pressure, directing it like a physical hammer straight at Lu Tian's head.

The pressure was immense. It was the weight of a cultivator who had reached the peak of the Meridian Opening realm, a force that could easily crush the bones of an ordinary mortal. Captain Chen, who was already kneeling with shattered kneecaps, let out a fresh whimper as the stray pressure forced his face directly into the mud.

"Kneel before me and await your judgment," Lu Chang commanded, stepping closer. "You will beg for forgiveness from Captain Chen, and then you will accept the executioner's blade for your crimes against the clan."

The invisible weight slammed into Lu Tian's shoulders. The floorboards beneath his feet cracked loudly, and his weak, newly refined legs began to tremble under the massive burden. To any normal member of the younger generation, this pressure would have forced them to their knees in an instant, breaking their spirit before the fight even began.

But Lu Tian did not bend.

He tightened his jaw, his iron will flaring to life within his dark spiritual sea. He had stood face to face with celestial executioners and primordial demons whose mere presence could collapse entire planets. The pressure of a minor elder in a remote border town was nothing more than a light breeze against an immovable mountain. He forced his spine to straighten, his shoulders squaring as he looked directly into the eyes of the tyrant.

"You want me to kneel?" Lu Tian asked, his voice steady and completely devoid of fear. "You do not possess the status, the strength, or the right to demand such a thing from me, Lu Chang."

The First Elder's eyes narrowed in genuine surprise. He increased the flow of his inner energy, doubling the pressure in the courtyard. The stone tiles beneath Lu Tian's boots actually sank an inch into the dirt, but the teenager remained standing perfectly upright, his arms crossed loosely over his chest.

"How are you still standing?" Lu Chang muttered, his voice dropping into a dangerous whisper. "You failed the martial test yesterday. You have no spirit root. You are a cripple who should be coughing up blood right now."

"The test yesterday was a farce, just like your leadership of this clan," Lu Tian replied, a cold smile touching his lips. "You sold this courtyard to the Wang Clan because you are desperate for resources to feed your own son's mediocre talent. You are selling my father's legacy to cover your own failures."

"Silence!" Lu Chang roared, his patience snapping completely. "Your father is dead! His legacy belongs to the clan, and I am the clan! I can sell every stone of this estate if it benefits our future. You are nothing but a lingering ghost of the past, Lu Tian. Today, I will personally erase you."

Lu Chang raised his right hand, his palm glowing with a fierce, concentrated light as he prepared to strike Lu Tian down right where he stood. The energy in his hand was enough to pulverize a boulder.

"If you kill me here, you will prove to the entire city that you are a coward who fears a teenager," Lu Tian said, his voice loud enough to carry past the courtyard walls. "The city lord and the rival clans are already watching us after the embarrassment of yesterday. If the acting head of the Lu Clan murders his own orphaned nephew in broad daylight just to hide a dirty real estate deal, what will they think of our family's honor?"

Lu Chang's hand paused in midair. His face twisted as he calculated the political fallout. The border city was a nest of vipers, and the Wang Clan and the city lord were always looking for an excuse to weaken the Lu family's standing.

"You think your words can shield you from me?" Lu Chang hissed. "I can lock you in the dungeon for the rest of your miserable life, and no one would care."

"I am not asking for a shield," Lu Tian said, stepping forward against the heavy pressure. "I am offering you a solution that saves your precious reputation. Your son, Lu Jin, wants to humiliate me. He wants to prove that he is the rightful heir to everything my parents left behind."

"My son has already broken through to the third stage of body refinement," Lu Chang boasted, lowering his hand slightly but keeping his energy primed. "He is a genius compared to a piece of trash like you."

"Then let him prove it on a real stage," Lu Tian challenged, his eyes flashing with a ruthless light. "The upcoming clan tournament is in two weeks. The entire city will be there to watch the younger generation compete. I challenge Lu Jin to a death duel on the main arena. No interference, no elders stepping in to save him. A battle to the absolute end."

Lu Chang blinked in disbelief, and then a cruel, booming laugh erupted from his chest. "A death duel? With my son? You truly have lost your mind, Lu Tian. Lu Jin will tear you apart in less than three moves. You are asking for an official execution."

"If he is as great as you claim, then you have nothing to fear," Lu Tian said, his tone flat. "If he kills me legally on the stage, my parents' legacy becomes yours permanently, and no one in the city can call you a thief. But if I win, you will return every single spirit stone you stole from my inheritance, and you will vacate the clan head's seat."

"A wager of life and death," Lu Chang murmured, his eyes glittering with greed and malice. "The elders will gladly witness this. It legalizes everything I have worked for."

The First Elder accepted, confident his son will slaughter Lu Tian, unaware that Lu Tian is secretly using the confrontation to absorb the elder's stray energy into his artifact.

Deep within Lu Tian's soul space, the Nine Abyss Seal was spinning like a mad hurricane. The massive, oppressive spiritual pressure that Lu Chang had been pouring into the courtyard was not crushing Lu Tian at all. Instead, the gold letters of the Forbidden Devouring Scripture were acting as a magnet, drawing the stray, invisible waves of the elder's peak Meridian Opening energy directly into Lu Tian's body.

Every word Lu Tian spoke was a deliberate delay tactic. He was using the conversation to buy time, allowing the black seal to drink deeply from the elder's vast reservoir of power, refining the stolen energy to repair his own fractured soul and strengthen his newly opened pathways. Lu Chang believed he was dominating the boy, completely blind to the fact that his own strength was being drained to fuel his nephew's resurrection.

Here, thieves, rogue cultivators, and desperate merchants traded in secrets, stolen goods, and forbidden artifacts where only strength and wealth dictated the rules.Lu Tian walked slowly through the crowded, narrow alleyways, his face completely hidden beneath the deep hood of a coarse black cloak. The wood splintered on impact, spilling faded silk robes, old scrolls, and broken jade ornaments across the mud. "Move aside, old woman. This property belongs to the Wang Clan now. Your useless master has ten minutes to clear out before we burn this shack to the ground.""This chest belonged to the late mistress!" They were small, thin, and covered in rough calluses and fresh bruises. This was not his supreme, unyielding divine body that could shatter mountains with a single gesture. The skin was pale, the muscles were completely undeveloped, and when he checked his internal meridians, he found them blocked, twisted, and utterly broken."Ten thousand years," he muttered, forcing a bitter, hollow laugh from his cracked lips. "I slept in the void for ten thousand years. Mu Rong and Shangguan Xue are probably worshipped as supreme gods across the higher planes now. Meanwhile, I am reduced to the ridiculed orphan of a fading family in a remote border town."The foreign memories of this new body flooded his mind, piecing t
