Slapping with a proof

The words uttered by Maverick made Hailey look down at him more. The blonde girl darted a cold glare at him. Her pink lips twitched slightly, indicating that she was displeased with his confident reaction. Then, she sneered, "Are you trying to act like a rich billionaire?? Uh, come on, this is a reality, not a mini series that changes you in a night, Parker."

"Alright. If you insist, I'll prove your accusation as a defaming act." Maverick strengthened his confidence. He seemed not to be scared to provide the legit proof to pay for his shopping list.

Then, the cashier staff glanced at him as she scanned each item submitted. Once the scanning was done, the staff inquired, "How will you pay, sir? By cash, banking app, or card?"

Calmly standing behind the counter, Maverick got his phone and scrolled down to open his banking app. "I'd like to pay through the banking app," He replied confidently. He knew the exact amount he had, especially since he had done the first mission, and he had not used the money to buy something.

"Alright. Wait for a moment, sir." The cashier staff took a glance at the total amount he must pay. She also prepared the banking machine for the scanning process.

When it was all set, the cashier held the scanner and instructed, "Please show me your barcode, sir."

Maverick, with the barcode on his phone's screen, extended his hand. He let the light of the scanner shine and read the barcode. Thus, a ring from the banking machine was discerned. It made Logan tug a tiny smile on his face since it was proven that he was capable of paying for those things.

"Here is the receipt, sir. Thank you for shopping in Green 'n Savory," The cashier handed in the small paper that indicated the payment details and discounts on the stuff.

"You're welcome, Miss," Maverick replied politely. He received the small paper and kept it in his old ripped leather wallet.

While Maverick felt satisfied and relieved for the real proof, the various reactions came from Carl and the friends. The group of youngsters had mixed reactions to what they just saw.

"This is ridiculous! That poor brat has enough money to shop here." Carl stared at shocked while uttering.

He knew it well that Maverick had been mistreated since the first year at Sunny Drive University. His acknowledgement was proven through the moment when Maverick was short of his monthly allowance. It was so different with Asher Parker, who always had a larger amount of monthly income.

Nic frowned. He was not surprised if Maverick could pay on his own in the grocery store or supermarket. Therefore, he casually commented, "Maybe, he has prepared that money beforehand. Come on, shopping in this kind of store can be done by all people. Even a few beggars may do it."

Hailey stared at Nic as she nodded a little. She responded in agreement, "That's right. Green 'n Savory is the most economical store in the city. It's not a big deal if customers tend to buy so many kinds of stuff here."

Sally smiled curtly. She also threw salty comments at the situation Logan had faced. "Well, let's consider it as his good luck. He may not be capable of paying others. Remember, he is a scholarship student in our expensive and prestigious campus."

Carl patted Sally's back in excitement. He was thankful for her assurance that Logan had not reached the same level as theirs. In fact, all of them were afraid that poor Logan would be richer than they were. It was because of their prestigious parents' statuses that their identities as students of Sunny Drive University.

At 08:15PM, Maverick was home. Two paper bags were placed in the pantry in the kitchen. At that time, he took a glass of water and downed it since his throat was dry.

After another minute, a soft ring nudged his ears. It came up with a small notification panel from the system in his head.

Maverick squinted his eyes. He tried to figure out the stranger's name. "Well, I ever heard of Hampton Corporation before, but I never expected that the owner is a woman," He expressed his astonishment.

The system immediately replied,

[It's an unknown fact, Master. From some resources I got, Sophia is the real owner of the company, but because of a terrible accident, she must sit in a wheelchair. That's why her second husband takes the important role in the company.]

The news he just learned was like a plot of drama in an online mini-series platform. Since there was nobody in the kitchen, Maverick stood near the pantry and responded to the system, "You mean Franco Westwood?"

[Yeah, Mr. Westwood is known as the owner of Hampton Corporation in public. There is a strong belief that he has most of the shares.]

Another fact discovered was like a riddle clue for him. All the time, while watching the news or certain infortainment in local TV station, Franco Westwood always appeared as a figure who talked about his successful path of establishing Hampton Corporation.

Besides that, Franco's youthful charming face often appeared in some business magazines. Each time the businessman appeared there, it inspired Logan to be like him. Indirectly, he made Franco his role model because he dreamed of having his own company, one day.

Yet, his obsession with being successful like Franco was a bit shaken when the system told the truth about Hampton Corporation. Then, Maverick took another glass of water and gulped it. His mind was focused on how to do the mission and its prizes.

"Alright. This mission seems to be challenging this time. I may need some help from the company's insiders," Maverick responded tensely. He intended to accomplish the new task to add more bucks to his savings account.

[Be relaxed, Master. This mission is not the hardest one. The task from your campus will be related to this thing. Just wait for tomorrow.]
