Zach knew he shouldn't put up with them. He didn't know the man's name and didn't care—he wasn't the only man Sarah had targeted. Zach may have felt hurt by his wife's behavior in the past, but perhaps those feelings had changed. He no longer reacted as angrily as h

His days were obviously very boring. There was no work and none of the things that used to ignite his passion for life. Being unemployed might have been his dream, but not with the status of an unrecognized son-in-law and a husband with no self-respect. If only Zach had been more careful in choosing his friends and partners, maybe he wouldn't have had such bad luck. But does regretting the past change anything? "Is there any way I can get out of this damn trap of fate?" he said to himself.

Since the horrific incident, Zach had lost touch with his friends and even his ex-girlfriend. None of them could be contacted or

Zach wanted to snap at his chatty driver. However, he decided against it when he saw the police station they had just passed. The sigh

"Oh my! How could I forget what happened yesterday?" He recalled the bar girl who was skilled in martial arts. He immediately ordered the driver to stop the car. Zach got out and took wide strides toward the station.

He asked the officer about the robbery case from the previous day. The officer explained that everything was in order despite the scuffle between the woman and the robber. The evidence clearly showed that the robber was at fault, and Hannah had only acted in self-defense.

"Self-defense?" Zach was skeptical. Judging by the woman's strength, it seemed the robber was the one who needed to protect himself. However, in the context of this case, it was clear that Hannah deserved to be freed and honored for her heroic act.

That was a relief. Zach had come only to make sure, so he was about to leave when the officer stopped him, saying, "I think your girlfriend is a tough and smart woman. Apart from defending the victim, she also emphasized how there should no longer be any oppression or discrimination against women. Her words matched her actions."

Zach didn't care much and didn't consider it anything extraordinary. To him, all women were the same. He responded casually and left.

On the way, the driver asked for permission to stop for a toilet break. Zach agreed, and the car pulled into the city's largest shopping center. Uninterested in going inside, Zach chose to wait outside and find a place to smoke.

On a bench in a small park, he looked up and gazed at the tall skyscrapers. Benne Avenue was a shopping center owned by the Bennett family. It was not only the largest in the district but also the largest in the city, with a name that had spread nationwide. Zach let out a long sigh.

"Maybe if I had a shopping mall this big, I could pay off all my debts." It was wishful thinking. Zach had no access to such resources and wouldn't be left alone by Mrs. Grace.

The luxuries Zach had were conditional. He could live a high-class lifestyle, but his freedom was taken away. That was the trade-off. Zach sighed again, the sound heavy. The cigarette he had just lit no longer appealed to him, so he threw the nearly intact butt down and stomped on it.

"You're even uncivilized with just one cigarette in your hand."

The voice almost made Zach jump. He turned to find the woman from the previous day standing beside him.

"Hannah?" he said softly.

The woman sat beside Zach without permission, then shifted closer to him. Zach gasped, feeling uncomfortable with Hannah's sudden behavior.

"What do you want—"

"Lift your leg," ordered Hannah, glancing at Zach's foot, which was resting on the cigarette butt.

Although confused, Zach complied. He was surprised when Hannah picked up the butt and placed it between her lips. Zach's jaw nearly dropped at what the beautiful woman was doing.

"Take out your lighter!"

"Did you just order me around?" Zach asked, but got no response other than Hannah's expressionless stare. He took the lighter from his pocket and handed it to her.

"Your attitude is too rough for a bartender."

Hannah chuckled as she lit the cigarette. "I'm not working, sir," she replied casually.

"But when you're at work, it's no different."

"Just ignore it if you're uncomfortable."

"Of course, but hey! You're the one who suddenly sat here and took the cigarette I threw away!" Zach thought it was gross—not to mention the fact that Hannah didn’t seem to mind using something discarded. "Are you really like this? Picking up trash and using it for yourself?"

Hannah blinked, her expression blank. She then looked at the man beside her.

"This cigarette is worth more than you."

Zach's gaze sharpened at her words. "You—" His chest rumbled with anger, his face red. He had seen glimpses of her character but never imagined her words could cut deeper than those of the Bennett family.

Zach quickly stood, glaring at Hannah. "Remember, you and I don't know each other. A rude woman like you shouldn't be working as a waitress! I really feel sorry for the owner of the bar where you work."

Hannah remained unbothered, as if Zach's words were nothing but a breeze in spring. Seeing her cold reaction, Zach added sharply, "I swear, one day I'll take back that bar. This was never my fault—it was just injustice from the start! I was treated unfairly by them!"

Hannah's words had stung for a reason. Zach couldn't deny that she'd called him less valuable than trash. The truth was, she was probably right.

He had no right to be angry with anyone or anything except himself. "I will make everyone who underestimates me regret it for life. I swear!"

Zach was forcibly taken into the car. He thought that aside from the driver and Jeremy, there was no one else inside. However, sitting in the back seat with a stoic expression was Mrs. Grace, right next to Zach.Zach glared at Jeremy, who had just gotten into the car. “You’re full of surprises today.”Jeremy ignored him and instructed the driver to start the car. For a moment, the atmosphere was tense and silent. Zach tried to ignore the presence next to him, but the oppressive aura was too strong.Zach gave in. “What brings you here?”“You and the trouble you’ve caused.” Her voice was calm but carried the weight of invisible needles.“I was there only as a witness. Everyone, even the inspector, knows that.” He glanced at Jeremy again. “Your subordinate here blew things out of proportion, dragging me out of there.”“If you don’t want such things to happen again in the future, never get involved with the police again.”That wasn’t advice. Zach clearly understood that her statement was

The police finally arrived to arrest the thief along with the victim for further questioning. Zach and Hannah were also required to come along since they were considered witnesses, and Hannah had to explain about the thief who was now semi-conscious from the injuries she inflicted. In the car, Zach still felt uneasy about the woman next to him, Hannah. She appeared calm, her face showing no expression. How Hannah had subdued the thief in such a short time still replayed in his mind.“Did you learn martial arts?” Zach asked, breaking the silence. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw the police officer driving the car listening in. “You’re quite brave.”“Shut your mouth.”“I was just asking,” Zach said quickly.Zach slightly recalled what had happened yesterday when he was at the bar talking to the woman, but he didn’t quite remember their conversation, only the moment before he left the bar. They finally arrived in front of the local police station. There, the bag thief was arguing wit

Zach hated Jeremy more than he hated the loan sharks who threatened to rip out his organs. The reason was simple: Jeremy was better at deceiving and pressuring than those criminals.Zach didn’t know and didn’t want to know what Jeremy’s job was in this family, but it was clear Jeremy always followed him, sometimes openly, sometimes covertly. Zach didn’t care because there was nothing he could do other than walk around in the evenings, watching the busy people on the increasingly crowded streets. They were busy people who had gone through a hard day at work.Zach missed his job.“You are not allowed to work, any kind of job.” Mrs. Grace’s words on the same day as Zach and Sarah’s wedding still echoed. “I don’t want you looking foolish in front of many people, especially those connected to the Bennett family.”Zach sighed deeply. The tired-looking man leaned his head against the car window, lamenting his fate, which was now safe but boring.“Is there anything you want, sir?” Zach’s pers

When Zach returned to the Bennett mansion, he saw Sarah raging downstairs. She was throwing everything within reach, and when she caught sight of Zach, she grabbed a small ceramic vase and hurled it at him.Zach, unprepared for the sudden attack, was struck on the forehead. Fresh blood started to flow.“Damn you! Why does everything go wrong whenever you’re around?” Sarah screamed. Her appearance was a mess, her makeup smeared, and her dress stained with soil from the shattered vase. The mansion was in chaos. Several servants stood by with cleaning tools but didn’t dare intervene, fearing they might get caught in the crossfire and risk being fired.Zach winced in pain, wiping away the blood nearing his eyebrow. “Can you stop this?” he asked gently. “Enough already, Sarah. What happened at the bar should be the end of it.”“Shut your fuck mouth!”Zach was about to say something when a new sound entered the scene—measured, deliberate footsteps. The presence of a woman, marked by the wri

  • Chapter 6

This wasn’t the first time Zach saw his wife getting cozy with another man. From the beginning, she never took their marital status seriously. Perhaps, she never wanted this marriage in the first place.Zach didn't think much of it because he, too, lacked genuine commitment in this marriage. Marrying out of necessity to survive and escape debt sounded quite pitiful. However, sometimes life’s solutions come from unexpected directions.“But still, I feel my life is too miserable,” Zach said, wiping his face before turning away from his wife’s figure.Hannah, silently observing, asked, “Do you know that woman?”Zach nodded. “Who doesn’t know her? She’s the daughter of the richest family in this town.” His voice was slurred and unclear.“Is that so? I thought she was your lover.”The remark elicited a loud laugh from Zach. He pointed to himself. “Me? Impossible. She never acknowledged my existence.” Though Zach spoke enthusiastically, his eyes told a different story. A deep sadness was ev
