The creature that stepped out of the tunnel mouth was not born of any natural wood or wild valley.

It stood nearly six feet tall at the shoulder, its long, lean torso built like a grey wolf, but supported by six jointed legs encased in heavy, rusted iron plates. Its jaw was a jagged steel trap that hissed with escaping steam, and where its eyes should have been, two burning orb-lanterns of sulfur-yellow fire cast a sick, flickering light across the marble floor.

Behind it, two more iron-clad hounds crowded the tunnel archway, their iron talons scraping against the stone in a rapid, rhythmic clatter.

"Brace!" Queen Natasha commanded, drawing her slender silver blade in one fluid motion.

Alex stepped in front of Dwaho, bringing his practice sword up in a firm two-handed guard. The pale mark on his right palm flared with a sharp, golden light, traveling along the fuller of his steel blade until the dull metal shimmered like polished sunfire.

The lead hound did not bark. It lunged silently across the terrace, its six legs propelling it forward with terrifying speed.

A sharp thwip cut through the air. Princess Rose’s arrow struck the beast directly in its central knee-joint. The heavy iron arrowhead shattered the brass fitting, sending a shower of sparks and black oil spurting across the marble. The hound stumbled, its momentum carrying it sideways into an overturned wagon, but the remaining two beasts leaped over their fallen pack-mate, heading straight for Alex and Queen Natasha.

Barnaby let out a deafening screech that split the mountain air. The griffin reared back on his lion hindquarters, snapping his massive wings forward to create a gale-force gust of wind that threw the second hound off balance. With a brutal downward stroke of his front talons, Barnaby pinned the iron beast to the stone, his brass-colored beak slamming down to crush the lantern-housing in its skull.

The third hound bypassed the griffin entirely, darting low toward Dwaho.

"Dwaho, duck!" Alex yelled.

Dwaho didn't run. He locked his feet into the gravel, slipped a smooth, dense river stone into his leather pouch, and whirled the sling twice above his head. With a sharp snap of his wrist, he released the chord.

The stone struck the hound’s exposed steam valve right above its neck joint. The brass valve cracked wide open, releasing a blinding cloud of scalding white vapor that sent the beast thrashing blindly across the terrace, shrieking with a sound like tearing metal.

Alex seized the opening. He leaped forward, driving his sun-lit blade straight through the iron collar behind the beast's head. The creature shuddered once, its sulfur-yellow eyes flickering out as it collapsed into a heap of lifeless iron plates.

Silhouetted against the dark tunnel entrance, a tall, cloaked figure stood watching the battle end.

He wore no iron armor, but rather a long, dust-stained coat of dark green wool bound with brass buckles, and a wide-brimmed traveler's hat that shadowed his face. Across his back hung a pair of long, leather-bound map cases, and in his left hand, he held an unlit iron lantern attached to a heavy bronze chain.

"Not bad for a fallen queen, a runaway princess, and two boys from the upper houses," the man said. His voice was gravelly, rich, and entirely unbothered by the metallic wreckage at his feet.

Queen Natasha kept her blade raised, her dark eyes narrowing. "State your name, traveler, before my griffin decides you belong to the same pack."

The man reached up with two gloved fingers, tipping his hat back just far enough to reveal a weathered, bearded face and a pair of sharp, amber eyes.

"The name is Caleb," he said, stepping over the smoking frame of the steam-hound. "Head scout of the Great Forest Rangers—or what's left of us since General Vane took the lower locks. If you're planning on heading down to the Altar of Glass through the main stairs, you might want to reconsider. Vane’s men have just collapsed the lower archway."

Rose lowered her bow an inch, her grey eyes searching the scout's face. "Caleb? My father spoke of a forest ranger who knew the hidden water-routes beneath the shale."

Caleb offered a short, solemn nod toward the princess. "I knew your father well, Princess Rose. And if we want to reach the Sunken Vault before Vane breaks the inner seals, we need to take the old miner's shaft behind the waterfalls. But we have to move now—more hounds are coming up from the valley floor."

Alex wiped his glowing blade on his coat sleeve, returning it to its sheath as the golden light faded back into his palm. He looked at Dwaho, then at Queen Natasha. "Lead the way, Caleb."

  • Chapter 49: The Celestial Ring

The Solar Sovereign glided silently through the void, its black-and-gold hull cutting through the ambient starlight toward the massive orbital structure ahead. Known across the sector as the Aetherian Ring, the world was a sprawling, mechanical band encircle-building a dying star. Millions of glowing spires, docking bays, and artificial biosphere domes lined its inner surface, housing thousands of alien species and cosmic merchants.Behind the flagship, the twelve war-frigates anchored near a cluster of hollow asteroids, using localized cloak-fields to mask their elemental signatures. Alex wasn't here to launch a full-scale assault—not yet. He needed intelligence, and he needed to locate the regional governor holding the second Prime Key.Alex stepped off the boarding shuttle onto the polished obsidian floor of Docking Bay 77, flanked only by Queen Natasha and Dwaho. His long coat hid the glowing multi-layered seal on his forearm, though his broadsword rested casually at his hip.The

The sky above Realm VIII parted in a blinding spectacle of gold and violet light as the celestial armada rose from the subterranean foundries. Led by the retrofitted void-dreadnought—now christened the Solar Sovereign—the twelve war-frigates cut through the upper cloud layers in a tight, impenetrable spearhead formation.Below them, the cities of the Eight Worlds stood silent and peaceful under the unified protection of the Master Key. Above them waited the Ninth Gate: a gargantuan, swirling vortex of deep crimson and obsidian starlight tearing through the fabric of the outer void.On the open command bridge of the Solar Sovereign, Alex stood at the forward prow. The multi-layered seal spanning his forearm burned with an incandescent, golden glow, radiating a steady warm aura that kept the freezing chill of the high atmosphere at bay. His long cloak whipped against the gale-force winds as the ship approached the event horizon of the gate."Dimensional pressure spiking!" Dwaho called o

  • Chapter 47:The Celestial Fleet

The iron foundries of Realm VIII roared with an intensity never before seen in the history of the Eight Worlds. White-hot streams of refined solar steel flowed through massive aqueducts, pouring directly into the subterranean drydocks beneath the Iron Citadel. Thousands of craftsmen, engineers, and spell-weavers from every unified realm worked side-by-side, their hammers beating a rhythmic war drum that echoed through the mountain vaults. At the center of the main assembly bay floated the captured void-dreadnought, now completely retrofitted. Its dark obsidian hull had been reinforced with heat-resistant plates from the volcanic wastes, and its broadside cannons had been replaced with twin solar-resonance turrets. Flanking the massive flagship were twelve newly forged war-frigates, their sails woven from storm-silk from Realm VII to catch solar winds in the outer void.Alex stood on the high overlook platform, his long coat fluttering in the superheated air rising from the foundries b

  • Chapter 46: The Star Map

The hum of the void-dreadnought’s reactor softened from a violent, unstable thrum to a steady, low pulse as Alex channeled the remaining power through the Master Key. Crimson light faded throughout the massive vessel, replaced by the clean, golden aura radiating from the multi-layered seal on his forearm.Heavy footfalls echoed down the metallic corridor behind him. Queen Natasha and Caleb entered the reactor chamber, their boots crunching over the scorched remains of the biomechanical guards Alex had cleared."The upper decks are secure," Natasha reported, sheathing her broadsword. "The remaining void-skimmers retreated into the deep nebula the moment the dreadnought’s primary engines died. The vessel is entirely under our control.""Good," Alex said, lowering his hand as the Master Key matrix settled back into the glowing mark on his arm. "Caleb, get the engineering teams from Realm VIII up here. I want this ship’s hull reinforced and linked to our central network.""Consider it don

  • Chapter 45: Breaching the Core

The corridor inside the void-dreadnought smelled of ozone, scorched wire, and cold copper. Alex landed hard on the metal floor, his boots leaving glowing white imprints on the dark void-iron deck. Before the smoke from his initial entry could clear, six biomechanical void-warriors—tall, skeletal constructs with razor-sharp monomolecular claws and crimson optical sensors—surged through the electrical haze. They moved with silent, unsettling speed, striking in a synchronized lethal cross pattern designed to slice an intruder into pieces.Alex didn't fall back. He took a single step forward, bringing his left arm up to block the lead construct's claw. The solar-infused seal on his forearm flared instantly; the monomolecular blade shattered into useless fragments upon touching the golden aura surrounding his skin.Without breaking momentum, Alex rotated his shoulder and drove his broadsword straight through the lead warrior's chest core. Superheated solar fire flooded the machine's intern

  • Chapter 44:The Ninth Gate

The sky above the Iron Citadel shattered. Far beyond the highest cloud line of Realm VIII, the void itself groaned as a colossal, void-black rift ripped across the horizon. Streaks of crimson energy bled down into the atmosphere, crackling against the golden defense matrix Alex had established across the eight realms.Alex stood at the head of the expeditionary vanguard, his long cloak whipping violently in the converging dimensional winds. Below him on the central launching plaza, three heavy assault airships—forged from Realm VIII’s black steel and powered by the clean solar-resonance of Realm III—hovered with their brass engines roaring.Beside him, Queen Natasha lined up the heavy infantry, their shields locked and glowing with protective abjuration runes. Caleb adjusted the pneumatic rig on his heavy axe, while Rose stood at the prow of the lead ship, three broadhead arrows resting ready between her fingers. Dwaho stood at Alex's right hand, his electric-blue Sight tracing the vo
