Chapter 10

I arrived at the door of the hotel's luxury suite and turned the doorknob. It was unlocked, just as I expected.

Through the frosted glass of the bathroom, I caught a glimpse of a woman nestled in a man's arms, his hands exploring her. A wave of nausea hit me, and I stepped back out, waiting by the door.

Half an hour later, Karen's lazy voice rang out, "Come in, idi*t!"

I pushed the door open again. Karen was lounging comfortably on Paul's lap, holding a glass of wine.

"Give yourself a good slap and apologize to my sweetheart!"

Paul looked smug like he had won some sort of victory by tattling on me.

I couldn't help but look down on him, a man so limited in his abilities.

"You heard me? A stupid slave! How dare you threaten Paul!"

"Like I said, I can't approve the project. If you insist, I'll have to consult Bill," I replied.

Bill, being the real owner of the Moore Group, knows what's essential. He gave Karen the CEO position to prepare her for the future, though he probably didn't expect his granddaughter to be so inadequate.

"Use my grandpa to against me? Again? If you dare bring this up with him, I'll have you fired immediately!"

"My answer remains the same. If you want to fire me before the month is out, you'll need to talk to Bill."

In her rage, Karen hurled her wine glass at me, but I managed to dodge it.

"How dare you dodge!"

She got up abruptly, stormed over, and slapped me twice.

Just then, Paul slinked over, wrapping an arm around her waist, and spoke smugly, "Getting angry causes wrinkles. This mutt isn't worth your anger, Karen."

Paul then shot me a cold glance. "This straggler keeps hanging around the Moore Group, refusing to leave. Let's stick him in the warehouse to haul loads until he's wiped out!"

Karen playfully pinched Paul's face, "You're the worst!"

Taking the opportunity, Paul wrapped his arms around Karen, whispering in her ear, "I'm bad enough that you love me the most!"

Karen turned to me, saying, "Get yourself to the warehouse. I'll have Zachary load you up with work every day. Since you're so keen to work, don't take a moment's rest! And finish all the assistant duties and company documents daily!"

I smirked. Same old tricks. After five years, Karen still hadn't come up with anything new in her daily torture.

With a wicked smile, Karen added, "If you don't want to work yourself to death, agree to sign now, and I might let you off."

"Ms. Moore," I said, "enjoy your time with your sweetheart. I'll get my work done."

With that, I turned and left the hotel, and Karen's angry shouts echoed behind me.

I reached the Moore Group's transportation warehouse and was greeted by Zachary Brice, who was in charge of here. He stood waiting at the entrance.

"Mr. Lambert, I just got a call from the president. This situation is really... I'm just—"

Seeing Zachary's worried look, I interrupted, "We're both just employees, Mr. Brice. I understand. Just follow Ms. Moore's instructions, I won't mind."

Relieved, Zachary scratched his head. "Thank you for understanding, Mr. Lambert. I'll make sure to give you some lighter loads. Ugh...The president said you need to load one truck today before you can leave."

I nodded to show I understood and then joined the warehouse staff to begin the work.

Coming from a humble background, I was not some delicate hothouse flower. A little physical labor wasn't going to kill me, but that didn't mean I didn't get tired.

As I wiped sweat from my brow, I was also handling company affairs on my phone, juggling both physical and mental tasks.

Being on the ground provided insights, confirming issues I had only imagined from the office. This led me to develop several plans to optimize frontline operations in the future.

I knew my company would only get stronger.

"Andy!"

A familiar gentle voice caught my attention. It was Lucy.

Her ponytail swung behind her, and though she was just in a shirt and jeans, her great figure was unmistakable, exuding both innocence and allure.

She waved, and two strong men came over to take the goods from my hands, starting to load them.

"See? I'm a pretty good investor, right? It's like divine intervention, a powerful reinforcement, isn't it?"

I was both surprised and delighted. "How did you find me?"

"Where there's a will, there's a way."

She took my arm, pulling me outside.

"You've been working all afternoon. Let's go eat."

I shook my head with a tired smile. "I'm worn out today, might not be able to join you for dinner."

"Working for your former boss is tough, but with your future boss, me, it's... enjoyable!" She winked mysteriously. "Come on, I promise you won't get tired."

As Lucy drove smoothly, soft music played, mingling with her faint floral scent, making me feel at ease. My eyelids grew heavy, and then her gentle voice filled the car.

"Just have some sleep. It'll be a while before we arrive. I'll wake you when we get there."

I drifted into sleep and woke up to find us not at a restaurant, but at the entrance of the most luxurious apartment complex in the East District.

Lucy pulled me into the elevator, and soon we were in a penthouse.

Excited, she opened the door and said, "Andy, this will be our secret base. I've thought starting a business would bring many challenges. We'll need to tackle them together here."

She showed me around, revealing a place complete with a pool, sky garden, starlit gym, and home theater.

"Let me know if anything's required, and I'll add it later."

"I require sleep, nothing else." I joked with a tired grin.

"I know, which is why I prepared a massage chair."

Lucy led me to a lounge and urged me to relax in the massage chair.

"This will be your resting room. Try it out and I'll go prepare some of my specialty dishes."

"You can cook?"

"You'll see. Now relax and no more talking."

Her seemingly bossy words held a gentle note as she closed the door for me.

I doubted a rich girl could cook, but I was too tired to help. As soon as I settled into the massage chair, exhaustion took over and I fell asleep again.

In my dreams, I felt my phone vibrating. The sound annoyed me, but soon the world was quiet again. A pair of gentle hands smoothed my furrowed brow.

I didn't know how much time passed before those hands softly touched my face, waking me.

"Sleepyhead, dinner's ready."

The warmth of her touch made me linger, and her faint fragrance was so inviting.

Half asleep, I instinctively pulled her into my arms.

I knocked on the office door and waited patiently until Karen finally opened it."Get the fu*k in."She walked back to her seat, putting her feet up on my desk. Her phone was set to speaker, and she was chatting with Paul Cook."Who's there, my darling Karen?""Just my pet," Karen replied, gesturing toward the floor beneath her feet, where a cup of coffee had spilled, leaving the cup broken."You're dressed nicely today. Now get down there and wipe up that coffee with your shirt. Not a single drop should remain."Karen leaned back, giving me a mocking smile.I swallowed my anger and knelt to clean the floor with my sleeve.Paul's laughter came through the phone. "Karen, you're impressive. Even your pet listens better than others.""He stuck around on his own, begged to be my pet, so now he has to listen.""It's an honor for him to be a pet with you, the goddess.""Charmer, wanting me to spoil you, aren't you?" Karen asked playfully.Paul picked up on her hint, "Then tonight, I'll make

"Do you want to join us?" I asked, surprised.Lucy nodded as if it was the most natural thing in the world. "Doesn't it take capital to seize port business opportunities? If you're asking for help, why not ask me? Helping others make money is fine, but why not help me instead?"Sensing the sincerity and eagerness on her face, I found myself seriously considering it. "It feels like a dream opportunity.""So, my dear Andy, are you going to take this opportunity or not?"I chuckled, "This sounds like freeloading."Lucy pretended to be annoyed and punched my shoulder playfully. "Hey, this isn't a free ride! I'll be a shareholder in your company, and you have to ensure returns for your shareholders. I'll make sure the contract states the return rate clearly, and if it doesn't meet my standards, I'll withdraw my investment!""Alright, alright, welcome, Miss White, as my first shareholder." Playing along, I quickly extended my hand for a handshake. She playfully slapped it away and pointed a

When George heard I was leaving the Moore Group, he seemed pretty surprised. To him, my loyalty was almost beyond belief. He didn't rush to speak; instead, he waited for me to explain further, so I continued."The shift to a global economy and the strengths of the supply chain make international expansion crucial. Especially for your Giantech Building Materials. It needs fresh energy. Waveland Port holds amazing strategic value. One investment there could mean lasting benefits. I'll be staying in the foreign trade industry, where I do best, and I'm hoping you'll be my first client."George laughed heartily, giving my shoulder a firm pat. "That's the spirit of youth! You've got my full support!"Discussing business with someone as sharp as George was enjoyable, and before I knew it, evening had arrived.George received a call from home, so I took the opportunity to step out, claiming I needed a restroom break but actually heading to the entrance to have a smoke.About ten minutes later

Oliver's words dripped with disdain for me while flattering Karen. He mocked me for once being the top student, only to end up as a lowly employee now. At the same time, he lavished compliments on people like Karen, who had become a boss without a degree. But Karen wasn't fooled. She shot him a cold look. "Don't insult workers, okay? Our company doesn't have employees who bark like dogs! He's just leeching off the Moore family!"Her harsh words stunned the alumni, leaving Oliver momentarily speechless. It seemed he didn't anticipate that in Karen's eyes, my status at Moore Group was so low that I wasn't even worth considering as a person.Being the sycophant he was, Oliver quickly shifted to appease Karen. "Ms. Moore, your judgment is accurate! We didn't expect Andy, our genius, to be a shameless freeloader."Malice spread like wildfire. Soon enough, others chimed in to ridicule me."Even with two PhDs, he's still shamelessly sticking to Ms. Moore. That must be true love! But the stat
