Chapter 9

I knocked on the office door and waited patiently until Karen finally opened it.

"Get the fu*k in."

She walked back to her seat, putting her feet up on my desk. Her phone was set to speaker, and she was chatting with Paul Cook.

"Who's there, my darling Karen?"

"Just my pet," Karen replied, gesturing toward the floor beneath her feet, where a cup of coffee had spilled, leaving the cup broken.

"You're dressed nicely today. Now get down there and wipe up that coffee with your shirt. Not a single drop should remain."

Karen leaned back, giving me a mocking smile.

I swallowed my anger and knelt to clean the floor with my sleeve.

Paul's laughter came through the phone. "Karen, you're impressive. Even your pet listens better than others."

"He stuck around on his own, begged to be my pet, so now he has to listen."

"It's an honor for him to be a pet with you, the goddess."

"Charmer, wanting me to spoil you, aren't you?" Karen asked playfully.

Paul picked up on her hint, "Then tonight, I'll make sure to show you a good time, Karen."

Karen giggled. "You better make sure you do."

I stood up and told her the floor was clean.

Paul's voice chimed in, clearly in a mocking tone, "I'm out in the suburbs; it's hard to get a taxi. Have your pet drive over to pick me up."

"Fine, wait there," Karen said with a smug look at me. "You heard him. Go pick up my sweetheart. And book a luxury suite at Luminaria Hotel, remember?"

I couldn't care less who she was planning to meet there; she was simply a bit*h who slept around.

But I knew the contract issue had to be settled.

"Why are you still standing here? Get lost," she barked.

"Ms. Moore, there's a problem with Paul's contract. I suggest—"

Before I could finish, Karen cut me off.

"Suggestions? You're just my servant. You're not even worth it. Just sign it and don't hold up my fund transfers."

'She's hopelessly foolish,' I thought.

I frowned as I refused, "If you are so confident in this project, sign it yourself. I won't be part of such a bad deal."

Karen stood up and slapped me. "How dare you stand up to me!"

"You better behave like an obedient pet, or I'll have you out of a job immediately!"

She was too stupid to get to know that I had no interest in working for the Moore Group.

Spoiled by Bill, she doesn't see that I'm only here to fulfill a contract.

It was a five-year contract, and there was less than a month left.

But I do believe in honoring contracts. I promised to protect the Moore Group for five years, and I'll stick it out until the very end.

There's no point in reasoning with this clueless woman; Paul will be easier to handle.

"I'll pick up Paul first," I said.

With that, I left and drove to the location.

From a distance, I saw Paul bidding a flirty farewell to a woman in a crop top.

He soon walked alone to the intersection where I waited.

I drove over and stopped beside him.

"Pretty quick, the Moore family's pet is just impressive," he sneered.

I stayed silent in the car, and he angrily knocked on my window, shouting. "Don't you know how to serve people? Get out and open the door, and invite me in!"

I looked straight ahead, unmoved by his demands.

'How absurd,' I thought, 'a spoiled playboy from a fallen family, idle and arrogant, looking down on me.'

Paul was fuming and tried to kick the car door. I abruptly hit the gas, moving the car slightly forward. Caught off guard, he fell flat on his face.

I rolled down the window, my tone cold. "You have three seconds to get in. If you don't, I'm leaving, and you can find your own way to the Luminaria Hotel."

"How dare you treat me like this!"

"Two seconds left!"

"Andy, I can have Karen deal with you with just one call!"

"One second!" I started up the car again.

In a flash, Paul was in the back seat.

"I'm calling right now. You'll be apologizing to me. Just you wait."

'What a pair of fools.' I floored the gas pedal, and the sudden movement made his head thump against the seat.

"What..." he began, but I cut him off.

"Karen's a ticking time bomb. In a bad mood, she won't spare anyone. If you want to invite trouble tonight, go ahead, call her."

That foolish woman thinks she's a queen, using men like toys for her amusement. Her kindness has an expiration date, and even though Paul is dense, he realizes that much.

He leaned back angrily. "Stop talking and drive faster."

"Paul, I've seen your contract. I'm advising you to think carefully and take it back."

"Andy, how dare you meddle in my business! You're just a fu*king slave!"

I remained calm. "If you want money, ask Karen while she favors you. Getting a few million should be easy. But the investment project? Let it go."

"Andy, stay out of it. If you mess this up for me, I'll make sure you lose your job!"

"Talking to an idi*t is tiring. Since you can't understand the reason, I'll just hand the contract to Bill. I'm sure he'll grasp the situation."

We arrived at the hotel just then. I glanced at Paul, whose face had turned pale with anger.

He knew I could do it, and if Bill got involved, not only would the project collapse, but he'd also lose any chance of benefiting from Karen's favor.

"Alright, Andy, threaten me? We'll see about that!" Paul snapped as he got out, slamming the door hard.

I hadn't even left the hotel parking lot when my phone buzzed with Karen on the line.

"Asking for trouble, huh? Basta*d! How dare you to upset Paul?"

I could hear Paul's whining voice in the background, "Karen, he's counting on Bill's support. He doesn't take you seriously at all."

"You mangy slave, get to the hotel room and apologize, right now!"

A wave of nausea hit me, and I stepped back out, waiting by the door.Half an hour later, Karen's lazy voice rang out, "Come in, idi*t!"I pushed the door open again. Karen was lounging comfortably on Paul's lap, holding a glass of wine."Give yourself a good slap and apologize to my sweetheart!"Paul looked smug like he had won some sort of victory by tattling on me.I couldn't help but look down on him, a man so limited in his abilities."You heard me? A stupid slave! How dare you threaten Paul!""Like I said, I can't approve the project. If you insist, I'll have to consult Bill," I replied.Bill, being the real owner of the Moore Group, knows what's essential. He gave Karen the CEO position to prepare her for the future, though he probably didn't expe

"Do you want to join us?" I asked, surprised.Lucy nodded as if it was the most natural thing in the world. "Doesn't it take capital to seize port business opportunities? If you're asking for help, why not ask me? Helping others make money is fine, but why not help me instead?"Sensing the sincerity and eagerness on her face, I found myself seriously considering it. "It feels like a dream opportunity.""So, my dear Andy, are you going to take this opportunity or not?"I chuckled, "This sounds like freeloading."Lucy pretended to be annoyed and punched my shoulder playfully. "Hey, this isn't a free ride! I'll be a shareholder in your company, and you have to ensure returns for your shareholders. I'll make sure the contract states the return rate clearly, and if it doesn't meet my standards, I'll withdraw my investment!""Alright, alright, welcome, Miss White, as my first shareholder." Playing along, I quickly extended my hand for a handshake. She playfully slapped it away and pointed a

When George heard I was leaving the Moore Group, he seemed pretty surprised. To him, my loyalty was almost beyond belief. He didn't rush to speak; instead, he waited for me to explain further, so I continued."The shift to a global economy and the strengths of the supply chain make international expansion crucial. Especially for your Giantech Building Materials. It needs fresh energy. Waveland Port holds amazing strategic value. One investment there could mean lasting benefits. I'll be staying in the foreign trade industry, where I do best, and I'm hoping you'll be my first client."George laughed heartily, giving my shoulder a firm pat. "That's the spirit of youth! You've got my full support!"Discussing business with someone as sharp as George was enjoyable, and before I knew it, evening had arrived.George received a call from home, so I took the opportunity to step out, claiming I needed a restroom break but actually heading to the entrance to have a smoke.About ten minutes later

Oliver's words dripped with disdain for me while flattering Karen. He mocked me for once being the top student, only to end up as a lowly employee now. At the same time, he lavished compliments on people like Karen, who had become a boss without a degree. But Karen wasn't fooled. She shot him a cold look. "Don't insult workers, okay? Our company doesn't have employees who bark like dogs! He's just leeching off the Moore family!"Her harsh words stunned the alumni, leaving Oliver momentarily speechless. It seemed he didn't anticipate that in Karen's eyes, my status at Moore Group was so low that I wasn't even worth considering as a person.Being the sycophant he was, Oliver quickly shifted to appease Karen. Soon enough, others chimed in to ridicule me."Even with two PhDs, he's still shamelessly sticking to Ms. Moore. That must be true love! But the stat
