Who would have expected the old patriarch of the Castillo family to suddenly die just some months after Kairos and Lilith's wedding?

The moment he was buried, the pretenses followed. The Castillo family no longer bothered to hide their disdain for Kairos. Their masks fell and spite surfaced.

After all, they had only reluctantly tolerated him. Once the old man was gone, he became the target of public scorn and humiliation.

The Castillos isolated him, humiliated him, and finally, plotted to sever his bond with Lilith entirely. Then came the real war.

A war suddenly broke out at the borders of the Northern Atlantis region. In response, the government issued a decree: 'All able-bodied men aged twenty-five and above were to report for military conscription.'

Lilith’s older cousin was originally chosen. But the Castillos were powerful and well-connected. They would never risk one of their own.

They pulled strings, manipulated documents, bribed the right officials and sent Kairos in his place.

'Dad, Mom... Please... Help me plead with Grandma. For the sake of our unborn child, don’t let them take my husband away.'

Kairos’ electric blue eyes darkened like a storm as his fingers curled into fists on the cold tiles of the bathroom floor.

He could still see Lilith’s tear-streaked face, how she had knelt before her own relatives and begged. How those people had turned their backs.

He remembered her chasing after the departing bus, her swollen belly slowing her steps. He remembered watching her fall and how he couldn’t get off the bus. How he couldn’t protect her.

The Castillos thought by sending him to war as a scapegoat, he was going to die. But instead, he rose.

Kairos defied every expectation, led the entire units to victory, crushed enemy strongholds, and carved his name into the annals of Atlantis’ military history.

He became the first in the country's records to don the Godly Supreme Armor, ascending to the rank of Supreme General.

Five years passed. The war ended and peace returned to Atlantis. Kairos longed to return to the wife he left behind and the child he had never met.

Who knew tragedy would suddenly strike when he returned to Velora city once again?

The armored car carrying him through Velora City never made it home. Something had gone wrong. Terribly wrong. Tires screeched, metal tore, and the car spun off the road into the churning river below.

The last thing Kairos remembered was the taste of blood in his mouth and Lilith’s name on his lips. How he ended up deranged and locked in Crescent Hill Asylum… he had no idea.

Kairos looked at his bruised palms, his electric blue eyes slowly sharpening with awareness. How long had he been here? Months? Years?

His throat ached and his heart was heavy as he whispered, "Lilith, I'm sorry I'm late."

"Get up and stop pretending to be dead. Who's going to clean up all this mess on the floor?" A contemptuous voice cut through Kairos’ thoughts as one of the doctors reached out to grab him by his collar.

The other doctors hung back, waiting to watch another round of humiliation. But something unexpected happened.

Kairos lifted his palm and waved two fingers casually. The doctor that had reached out to grab him was suddenly shaken off, staggering back like he had been hit with lightning.

Kairos raised his head and the bloodthirsty expression on his face was chilling to the core. He looked inhumane, cold, and murderous. Like a beast that had been long caged and was finally unshackled.

The air literally grew cold. One of the doctors gasped and stepped back, shuddering due to the sudden chill.

For the past two years, Kairos had taken every blow, every insult, without resistance. What has changed now?

The doctor that was shaken off was so frightened that his legs went weak, and he instinctively dropped to his knees.

"Y-You crazy bastard!" He shrieked. "What are you—some kind of freak?!"

"Doctor Desmond! Look, your wrist!" one of the younger doctors cried out.

Doctor Desmond looked down and went pale. His wrist was bent grotesquely, the bone sticking out under the skin. He hadn’t even felt it happen.

"Argh!!!" Only then did he scream. He cradled his arm, face flushing a furious red.

"Humph," Kairos snorted arrogantly, wiping blood from his lips as he stood up. A strange, powerful aura enveloped him. "Next time, show some respect... That is, if you get a next time."

Gasps rippled across the room. It was the first time he had spoken in years. So he wasn't a mute after all.

"You psycho! How dare you hit me?!" Doctor Desmond quickly recovered from his shock, trembling with anger as he roared. "Did you know the director gave us full authority to euthanize you if you turned violent?!"

Kairos tilted his head slightly, an almost lazy motion. That small gesture made Doctor Desmond feel smaller than he ever had.

"Get the sedative!" Doctor Desmond barked. "Call security! Now!"

Minutes later, more than a dozen guards stormed in, armed with tasers, batons, handcuffs, and ropes. At their lead was McHale, a burly guard who was infamous for breaking ribs with a smile.

"Electrocute him!" Doctor Desmond pointed a shaky hand at Kairos. "Don't let him go until his soul has departed from his body!"

"Don't worry, doc. He's just a dog. We'll handle him," McHale stepped forward. Turning to Kairos, he sneered, "Well, well. Kairos. Did you forget how I shattered your knee when you acted stubborn before?"

As he spoke, he tapped his baton on his hand like a promise. Kairos didn’t flinch. He simply smiled, a slow, dangerous curve of his lips. He swept a chilly gaze over the people rushing to subdue him.

"I remember clearly, and today, I will pay you back in your own coin."

SWISH!

In the blink of an eye, Kairos was standing directly in front of McHale. No one had seen him move!

Everyone was taken aback. McHale froze, eyes wide as Kairos’ gaze pinned him like a spear.

"When I was insane, you used that baton to shatter my knees, making me unable to walk for a while, right?"

Then Kairos struck.

The air smelled of perfume, fine cigars, and something darker.
