Professor Darby moved closer to his daughter, his face glowed with excitement he could barely hide.

“Avery," he whispered, almost laughing under his breath. “You just hit the jackpot.”

She blinked at him, her brow furrowed in confusion. "Dad, what are you even talking about? What jackpot?"

"Andrew Schmidt doesn't stand for just anyone, especially not students. And Barry Sanders? He sure as hell doesn't wait around for permission. But tonight? They both stood tall." His gaze was directed towards Robert. "For him."

Avery’s throat felt dry.

"I... I don't get it." she muttered, her voice barely audible over the murmur of the crowd.

"You don't need to wrap your head around it all right now." her father replied, his tone firm but encouraging. "Just don't let this slip through your fingers.”

He stepped away before she could ask more.

Avery turned to Robert, her heart pounded a little faster now.

"Do you have any idea why they were still standing?" she asked softly.

Robert stared at her, his expression was calm, almost like he was miles away in his thoughts.

He didn't rush to respond.

Instead, he just glanced over to Andrew and Barry.

Then, without a word, he lifted his hand in a gesture. Nothing flashy, just two fingers dipping downward slightly.

That was all it took.

Andrew dropped into his seat immediately.

Barry followed a heartbeat later.

And just like that, in a ripple effect, the entire crowd sat down with them.

Avery's eyes widened. Was that really it? No grand speech, no announcement, just a simple flick of the wrist?

Robert picked up his glass and took a slow sip, like nothing unusual had happened.

Across the room, Morris saw everything.

And he felt something dangerous. Loss of control.

He forced a smile and stepped onto the center stage.

“Ladies and gentlemen!” he called out.

The room fell silent, and all eyes turned to him.

“What an extraordinary night this has become.”

His eyes locked onto Avery.

“And what better way to honor our distinguished guests than with tradition?”

A low murmur spread through the crowd.

Morris raised his hand dramatically, signaling the start of the performance.

Beneath their feet, the marble floor at the hall's center began to shift.

The amused crowd wowed as a circular platform slowly rose upward.

The overhead chandeliers dimmed, casting long shadows across the room.

Then a single golden spotlight pierced through the darkness, bathing the platform in a warm glow.

Music began to play.

Soft, deep, and elegant.

Morris extended his hand toward Avery in invitation.

“Miss Darby. Would you and your guest do us the honor of performing the welcome dance?”

Every eye in the hall turned to them with expectation.

For a second she looked uncertain, they hadn't mentioned this to her earlier.

But she stayed calm and looked at Robert.

Robert rose to his feet and extended his hand to her confidently.

She placed her hand in his.

Together, they walked onto the platform.

The lights dimmed even more. Now, it was just the two of them isolated in that golden beam.

The music became louder.

Robert placed one hand firmly at her waist, not possessively, but gentlemanly.

Avery rested her hand on his shoulder, feeling the muscle beneath his suit. They began to move, performing slow deliberate steps that synced perfectly with the rhythm.

Avery had danced multiple times before, she knew how to impress a crowd.

But Robert? He didn't perform for anyone. He just danced as if this were second nature, as if the stage had been built for him alone.

They glided into a turn, and the spotlight followed their every move.

Her dress beamed in the light, shimmering like liquid gold.

He guided her into a spin, then caught her effortlessly.

But the tension between them wasn't the stuff of fairy tales, no sweeping romance here. It was just natural and artistic.

Applause started from a few guests, then built up like a wave, until the entire hall was clapping and cheering, and some people even rose to their feet

Robert dipped her low, and his eyes locked onto hers for a moment. Avery held her breath, she focused on his eyes.

For an instant, she forgot the crowd, the drama, and everything else.

Until she saw Chloe puffing at the edge of the crowd.

Her face was twisted in disgust and her jaw clenched furiously as she dug her nails into Edward’s arm.

“That should be me up there” she hissed.

Edward narrowed his eyes at the stage, his pride was hurt within.

Chloe turned to him.

“If you love me, then let's get up there, now.”

He frowned. "Chloe, this isn't the right moment. We'll look desperate.”

“Oh, it is the right moment." she snapped, her voice a harsh whisper.

"He's stealing everything, your night, your father's event. That's your damn stage!"

Her voice lowered.

“You’re Edward Emmett. Or have you forgotten that?”

Jane leaned closer with a smirk. “She’s right. You dance better than him anyway. Go make it interesting Eddie.”

Edward's jaw clenched, his fists curled at his sides.

Across the hall, Julie, Tracy, and Silver rushed toward them.

“You really don't understand what's at stake here." Tracy said.

Silver's tone dropped low, laced with fear. "You have no clue who Robert really is. None."

Chloe laughed dismissively. "Oh, please. He's nobody."

Julie shook her head. "You weren't there at Graham Scholars Academy. You didn't see what we saw."

Edward turned to them, clearly annoyed. "What the hell happened back then? Spill it."

Tracy opened her mouth. "There are things about him... dark things you don't—”

“And didn’t I tell you three to handle him?” Edward cut in, his voice turning cold. “I gave you a task.”

Before they could respond, a guard approached.

He leaned in toward Edward and nodded toward the stage.

Edward followed his gaze.

Morris was watching him.

Then, Morris lifted his chin, just a slight nod.

Edward understood immediately, permission granted, the stage was his.

Morris clapped his hands loudly, drawing the room's attention back to him.

The music faded to a gentle hum, and the spotlight expanded.

“My son!” Morris called proudly. “Edward, why not join our honored guests and show us how we Emmetts do it?”

The crowd reacted instantly with cheers and clapping.

Chloe’s lips curved into a slow smile.

“Go." she whispered. “Your father just gave you the stage.”

Julie clutched at his sleeve desperately. "Edward, please— don't."

"You have no idea what you're walking into." Silver sighed.

But Edward yanked his arm free. He wasn't backing down now.

Robert pushed his chair back and stood up. The sound wasn't loud, but in a room that big, it was enough to get everyone’s attention. Almost instinctively, everyone else started standing up too, their chairs sliding across the polished floor one after another.Anna was up first, then Avery. Professor Darby took a second to straighten his jacket, and Rose followed him, still looking around the dining hall like she was afraid it might vanish if she blinked. Then the butler stepped up behind them like a shadow.Robert gave them a small, relaxed smile. “Come on,” he said, and started walking. The Graham Oasis was even more intense at night. The hallways had a soft, golden glow that bounced off the marble floors, making them look like mirrors. Through the massive glass walls, you could see fountains lit up in white light and gardens that looked more like outdoor art galleries.Anna kept turning her head from side to side. “Okay,” she muttered, mostly to herself. “I will definitely get lost

  • CHAPTER 101: Dining with the Graham's

The silverware was clinking, and everyone was talking in that low, happy way you do when the food is so good that it actually calms you down. For a while, nobody said much— they were all just busy experiencing a meal that most people only see in movies.Anna wasn’t the type to sit in silence for long, though. She dropped her fork after a massive bite of steak and just shook her head. "Okay," she said, looking dead serious. "This has to be illegal. Seriously, someone should be in jail for making a steak this good. There should be laws against this."Robert turned to her looking half amused. "Illegal?"Avery chuckled softly beside her.Professor Darby smiled politely while cutting another piece of lamb.Rose ate quietly, still taking everything in— the room, the food, the fact that the boy she had raised was the heir to the most powerful family on earth.Anna took another bite and leaned back again."Yeah," Anna said, pointing her fork at him like she was making a legal argument. "It ju

  • CHAPTER 100: The Table of a Trillionaire

When the doors opened, Anna actually stopped breathing. It wasn't on purpose, she gasped and her lungs just seemed to stall out.“...Oh my God,” she whispered.Avery, Rose, and the Professor were right behind her, and they all had that same reaction of silence. It was that heavy kind of quiet you get when your brain is trying to make sense of something it wasn't built to process. The dining hall was massive— easily the size of a cathedral— with a dome ceiling fifty feet up covered in gold leaf murals, kings and leaders placing down their crowns and bowing before a single throne. Huge diamond chandeliers hung down like frozen waterfalls, and the polished black marble floor was so clean it looked like a mirror. But the real showstopper was the table. It was a single, fifty foot slab of black obsidian with gold designs that stretched almost the whole length of the hall.“That table has to be forty feet long,” Anna muttered.“Fifty,” Professor Darby corrected softly, squinting through hi

The Ocean Gallery started to fade behind them as they followed the butler down yet another long corridor. Anna was still looking over her shoulder every few seconds.“I’m definitely going to be dreaming about that whale shark tonight,” she muttered.Avery laughed. “You’re acting like we just stepped onto another planet.”“It felt like one,” Anna shot back.Professor Darby was still shaking his head as he walked. “In forty years of studying history,” he said quietly, “I never imagined I’d just casually stroll past artifacts that national museums would literally start wars over.”Rose had a faint smile on her face, but the look in her eyes showed she was just as amazed. “This doesn't even feel like a house anymore. It’s more like another world.”The butler slowed down a bit and turned back to face them. “If I may ask... do you all enjoy music?”Anna blinked, caught off guard. “Music?”“Classical, perhaps? Orchestral? The opera?”Avery’s face lit up immediately. “Actually, yeah. I love i

  • CHAPTER 98: A Palace Beyond Imagination

The butler led them down a long hallway lined with polished marble and soft golden lighting. Even the air in this part of the Oasis felt different— cooler, quieter, almost sacred.Anna kept glancing left and right like someone walking through a museum they weren’t supposed to be in.“This place just keeps getting bigger,” she muttered.Avery laughed softly. “You’re acting like a kid in a theme park.”“I feel like one,” Anna said immediately. “I thought the medical wing was impressive, but this… this feels like something out of a movie.”The butler stopped in front of a pair of tall elevator doors made entirely of brushed silver.“If you would all step inside,” he said politely. The doors opened silently. The interior of the elevator was larger than some hotel rooms. Soft lights ran along the walls, and the floor was made of a single piece of polished black stone.Professor Darby stepped inside slowly, adjusting his glasses as he looked around.“This elevator alone probably costs more

  • CHAPTER 97: The Weight of the Throne

The hallway outside the medical wing was quiet, but it didn't feel empty. Guards in dark suits were posted every few yards, blending into the shadows cast by the marble walls. The gold trim along the floor caught the soft overhead light, tracing long, expensive lines down the corridor.Abram led the way with Robert walking right beside him. They didn't say much at first, their footsteps the only sound echoing off the polished stone as they headed for the massive gold railed staircase.“Do you actually trust them?” Abram asked eventually.Robert knew his father wasn't one for small talk, so he didn't have to ask who he was talking about. “Avery? Yeah, I do.”“And her father?”They started up the stairs together.“Avery is a good person,” Robert said, keeping his voice steady.Abram glanced over at him. “Good people can still cause problems, Robert.”“Not her,” Robert said with a half smile. “She’s still figuring out how our world works. Honestly, she doesn't seem to care about the fami
