The pain throbbing inside Adrian was not visible in his expression.
Yet it festered like an unrelenting cancer.
That night, he found it hard to sleep as he checked the details he got over and over again.Maybe this Dahlia was linked to his aunt somehow.
Yet despite the bleary eyes gotten from a sleepless night, Adrian couldn’t find any useful similarity as dawn painted the sky in its glorious hues.
The only similarity was that this Dahlia had changed her name from Sue Robert to Dahlia Kingston.Adrian only knew Dahlia had changed her name. He had no idea what she changed it to.
The fear he had been trying to tamp down reared its head again.
What if…something had happened to her?
What if he was already too late?
He succeeded in dismissing the impossible thought.
Yet the simmering anger stayed ripe in him.He directed it firmly at the original cause.
“I told you you would regret this. You shouldn’t have done it, Chairman Cross,” he muttered that dawn in the concealed room he had turned into his strategy room.
He immediately logged into the untraceable Spider Network site.
The information he needed was all compiled and ready for him.He clicked on the folder marked Garret Han.
He opened the folder, scanned through the man’s deals, and smiled when he saw the one that involved Daniel Cross.A brief glance had him shaking his head with a humourless smile.
“Golden son, indeed,” he muttered as he sent Garret’s most recent deal to the Aurion Anti-Corruption Bureau.
Some of his anger eased as he saw the mail delivered.
He leaned back and stared at the screen as the image of Dahlia sprang into his mind’s eye.“I will find you, I promise. Please, hang on,” he muttered as he thought of the fact that this was the first time he had actually used the data gotten through the network for his personal reasons.
The network had come into place because of Dahlia, yet it had grown into something bigger than Adrian’s initial intention.
Adrian scoffed. He had helped countless others with the network, yet the reason he created it remained unsolved.
Only a few people even knew Spider Network existed, and Adrian rarely accepted requests.
Many made the mistake of thinking the network could be bought.
Adrian had only helped those he found deserving.Spider Network had enough information to shake Zerovia to its core.
It was one main reason why Adrian was discreet with its operations. The greedy could wreak serious havoc with an agency like Spider Network.
Its reach rivalled the intelligence agencies of entire nations. In the wrong hands, Spider Network could become a nightmare.
Yet Adrian was only interested in finding his aunt.Knowing the Bureau would go a long way to easing his anger and showing Richard that there are consequences for all actions, he headed to the gym to burn off the remnants of his fury.
Somewhere across the city, Bureau cars pulled up in front of Garret Han’s villa.
Doors opened in unison just as a balding middle-aged man stepped out of the house.
“Garret Han,” a voice said coldly. “You are under arrest.”

Manager Henry stepped out of the office a few minutes past 3 pm.Half an hour later, Philip Brewster received a call.Ten minutes after that, three men arrived at his lobby and his assistant directed them in based on her boss's instructions. At 4:27 pm, a lady arrived at the lobby, her hair and clothes covered with a cloak. The rain had started drizzling outside again. She moved closer to the assistant and asked a specific question. The assistant nodded almost immediately, responding, “Mr Brewster is already waiting for you. Please, right this way.”The lady entered and the boss's cheerful greeting could be heard from the o

Adrian looked at Fallon.Fallon swallowed as her gaze went to Solana.Softly, she reported, “Solana's badge was found at the spot of sabotage.”“What?!” Solana's head spun like a top from Fallon to Adrian. “What?!”The look on his face drained the colour from hers. Her knees turned jelly, and she sank into her chair.A laugh erupted from the caricaturist. “Really? So, Miss Innocent is not so innocent after all.”The team lead looked shocked. “Solana, why would you do something like this?”“Weren't you going on and on about yo

“Have you gone mad?” Henry shouted, his face red with fury.“That's going too far, Adrian. He's the manager,” the team lead spoke up.“I also think he did it.” Fallon's statement had eyes lashing on her.She shrugged and added, “He made it very clear that he was against the event. He wanted it to fail.”“Of course, you will back him up. We all know why,” the caricaturist mumbled.Fallon's eyes widened and her voice dropped dangerously. “What did you say?”The caricaturist immediately remembered her place.Fallon might not be from her department, but she was her sup

“What are you doing?” he snapped. Her wraparound bandage had been changed to a smaller one at the temple, but she had a bandage on anyway.“Oh, welcome back, sir,” the housekeeper said with such relief. The two nurses hovered just behind the woman with just enough anxiety on their faces for Adrian to know they had tried and failed to stop her.“I have work,” Seraphina responded like it was the most reasonable explanation ever.“What you have is a bump the size of a goose egg. A severe concussion that means you might faint again.”She had the nerve to look annoyed as her back went ramrod straight. “It's not the size of a goose e

The following day dawned dreary and wet.Yet it didn't stop Adrian from what he had planned. The mason arrived bright and early with his boys.Motivated by double the asking rate Adrian had paid, they soon had the polished black slab erected. All the cemetery official needed was his name. The waiting period for confirmation was immediately waived and, before 11 am, Adrian was left alone in front of the ornate slab that bore the only picture he had of her and a bold inscription. Here Dahlia Ashford lives onHe had dismissed the cemetery staff who offered to hold an umbrella over him too.So,

He reduced the volume even as his gaze turned back to Seraphina’s serene face. The same Sage?He wondered as his finger hovered on the connect button. With just a click he could find out if she was playing him after all.The call disconnected and he stared at the phone a moment longer. He didn't believe in coincidence, and people in Aurion didn't casually call themselves Sage.Still, he wondered if he was just projecting. Like some part of him wanted proof that throwing herself in front of him had been planned. He raked his fingers through his hair. “Get a grip,” he muttered.More Chapter
