Robert Davidson stood in front of the mirror, straightening the expensive black suit that had been custom-made by a renowned designer.

Alice stood behind him.

"So... we're really going?"

Robert nodded confidently.

"Of course. We've been invited, so I'll definitely be there."

"I'm going to win this auction," he murmured as he adjusted his jacket.

Alice continued to cling to his shoulder, prompting Robert to turn around and face her. On the nearby drawer lay an exclusive auction catalog.

Robert picked it up.

On the final page was a photograph of a historic diamond jewelry set that had once belonged to a legendary empress.

Beneath the picture was the estimated value.

US$380,000,000

Robert stared at the image with unmistakable ambition.

"This necklace will be my gift to you."

Alice's eyes widened slightly.

"Are you serious? I thought you were cutting back because your business hasn't fully recovered yet."

Robert smiled as he gently brushed her hair aside. The gift was not entirely for Alice—it was also for his pride. He wanted Vero to realize that the woman who had once been his was now someone Robert intended to make happy.

More than anything, Robert was buying back his dignity.

"Really, darling?"

Robert nodded.

"Vero will definitely be there tonight, and I'm going to compete against him. Everyone will see that I'm someone worthy of respect."

Hearing those words, Alice smiled warmly.

"Thank you, my love."

Robert returned her embrace, but his smile slowly turned cold.

"And more importantly..."

"I'm going to defeat Vero."

That name still felt like a thorn lodged deep in his heart.

Ever since Vero became the CEO of Vanguard Zenith, nearly every business news outlet had talked about Vero—not Robert.

Robert clenched his fists.

"Tonight, everyone will know who's truly the better man."

At the Auction

The Imperium Royal Convention Hall was filled with luxury limousines, Rolls-Royces, Bentleys, Ferraris, and Bugattis.

Hundreds of reporters crowded the red carpet as camera flashes illuminated the entrance without pause.

Men dressed in tailored suits carried the scent of expensive cologne, while the women beside them wore limited-edition jewelry worth fortunes. Every corner of the venue radiated wealth and influence.

Business elites exchanged conversations as they awaited the evening's main event.

A long black limousine came to a graceful stop before the grand entrance.

The media instantly turned their cameras toward the vehicle.

The door slowly opened.

Vero Van Houten, the nation's No. 1 business leader of the month, stepped out of the limousine.

He immediately extended his hand to help a beautiful woman step onto the red carpet.

Her feet were wrapped in glossy red limited-edition Christian Louboutin heels. Her fair skin and naturally polished nails reflected a delicate pink hue beneath the lights, making her appear like a goddess descending from a royal carriage.

Vero wore a simple black suit without flashy accessories.

Yet every item he wore was worth more than ten years of salary from his former job.

The two walked side by side with quiet elegance.

Their presence alone caused the surroundings to fall silent before the media erupted into another frenzy of flashing cameras.

At the end of the red carpet, Robert and Alice watched with slightly awkward expressions.

As the two groups crossed paths, Alice stopped them.

"So you still have the nerve to show your face after all the headlines about you?" Robert said coldly.

Alice forced a bitter smile.

"Tonight, Robert is going to win this auction for me."

She then glanced at Luna.

"How long are you going to stay with this man? He has zero experience. He doesn't have any talent for business. You'd better leave him now before you regret it."

Luna stared directly into Alice's eyes.

Her gaze carefully analyzed every detail of Alice's face before identifying her retinal pattern.

[Emotional connection with Candidate Vero detected.]

The system quietly completed its scan.

Luna simply smiled.

"I'll do anything for him."

Alice's expression immediately stiffened.

On the stage, the host picked up the microphone.

"Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Annual Grand Heritage Auction."

"Tonight, history will be made as some of the world's most precious treasures find their new owners."

The ballroom lights gradually dimmed.

The giant screen lit up.

A priceless historical artifact appeared.

The host smiled proudly.

"Our distinguished guests..."

"It is my honor to introduce tonight's featured lot."

'The Crown of Solaris.'

"A royal crown over one thousand years old, once the symbol of the Solaris Dynasty, believed to appear at public auction only once every several generations."

"The opening bid..."

"Three hundred eighty million U.S. dollars."

The entire hall fell silent.

Beside the giant screen, invisible to everyone else, a blue holographic interface suddenly appeared.

[Counterfeit auction item detected.]

[Imitation jewelry set confirmed.]

[Historical value: None.]

A faint smile crossed Vero's lips.

Everyone else remained focused on the stage.

The genuine estimated value was displayed as US$380 million.

Robert slowly raised his bidding paddle.

"Four hundred fifty million dollars."

The audience gasped.

Vero calmly joined the competition.

"Five hundred million dollars."

The spotlight immediately focused on the two rivals.

Neither gave anyone else the chance to participate.

"Six hundred fifty million dollars," Robert said through clenched teeth.

Vero smiled faintly.

He calmly lifted his paddle again while glancing toward Robert and Alice.

"Eight hundred fifty million dollars."

Alice's eyes widened.

Robert's hands trembled.

He knew every higher bid would cost him a fortune.

Yet if he lost tonight, his pride would once again be crushed beneath Vero's shadow.

"N-nine hundred million dollars."

His voice remained firm despite the hesitation.

The atmosphere became suffocating.

Vero remained silent before looking at the couple with a faint, almost sympathetic smile.

"That's enough... I'm worried about your finances, Robert," he whispered to himself.

Vero gently held Luna's hand, hiding the smile on his face.

"No further bids?"

The host waited.

None of the other business elites raised their paddles.

"Nine hundred million dollars..."

"Sold! The winner is Mr. Robert Davidson!"

Thunderous applause echoed throughout the ballroom.

The historic jewelry set was brought onto the stage.

"Congratulations, sir. Please accept this magnificent historical treasure for your wife."

Alice could barely contain her excitement.

Robert laughed in relief.

At last, he had defeated Vero.

Meanwhile, Vero simply smiled faintly before standing up and quietly leaving the venue.

That evening, to celebrate the victory, Robert and Alice checked into a five-star hotel.

Alice changed into an elegant gold satin nightgown, and together they celebrated with several bottles of champagne as the night continued.

Seizing the moment, Robert slipped something into Alice’s drink before shoving her onto the bed.

"I’m so satisfied tonight. I finally beat him," he said, running his hands over Alice’s body. She could only smile.

Robert kissed her lips voraciously, leaving Alice struggling to keep up.

"Did you see the look on his face? He must be devastated that I’m the one giving you this gift." Alice nodded again, though this time she took control, pushing Robert to the other side of the bed so she ended up on top.

"I don't like talking about other men in our bed you shouldn't feel like you're competing with him. He’s just a loser living off that naive girl." Robert chuckled. He sat up and reached for the champagne glass sitting at the edge of the bed.

"You're right, darling. But you know me I hate it when someone is superior to me," Robert murmured, holding the glass to Alice’s lips.

She downed the alcohol in one go. Robert devoured Alice’s sexy lips, caressing her sensitive spots. She became wilder under the influence of the drug Robert had slipped her earlier even after their encounter ended, she remained unconscious.

Robert pulled away from her embrace and looked down at her unconscious form.

"There’s a price to pay, Alice! Nothing is free. I paid 900 million dollars for you. You have to pay me back in other ways," he whispered with a wry smile.
