Across town, the Andrade Clinic bustled with movement as the medical team prepared for Andreia’s arrival. Dr. Almeida stood at the ready alongside an obstetrician, Dr. Jardim.

“Dr. Almeida, are you delivering the baby?” asked Charles, his tone clipped with urgency.

“No,” she replied. “Our friend here, Dr. Jardim, will handle the delivery.”

“Very good. Doctors, I’m counting on your efficiency.”

The paramedics reentered, wheeling Andreia in on a gurney. She was breathing the way she’d been taught in prenatal classes — though anyone paying close attention might have noticed she seemed like someone experiencing it all for the first time.

That detail, small as it was, could raise questions about whether she had actually given birth to Nathan in the past.

Sheila was the only one who picked up on it.

“That’s right, Andreia,” she said with a knowing glance. “You’re a pro at this already, aren’t you?”

Startled, Andreia quickly corrected her demeanor, remembering to fake the confidence of a wom

At Silva Oil Company, Leonardo reacted very offended when Gustavo asked about Ronaldo’s whereabouts. “Gustavo Alvares, I think you’re exaggerating here. Do you really care?” Gustavo reacted offended — or at least pretended to be. “What does that mean? I only asked out of concern. My father down there told me a chair flew from upstairs, and now I see the window being repaired.” “Thank God, the chair didn’t hit your father’s head,” Leonardo said sternly. “But you shouldn’t worry about more details of the matter.” Leonardo pointed to the flashy visitor badge pinned to Gustavo’s shirt. “Yes, I understand. I’m just the visitor here. Okay, since my presence is no longer required...” Gustavo made to leave but stopped and asked, “One more thing: the guys downstairs are pretty nervous about their muse. Will Patty Borges keep working here?” “That depends on Patty herself,” Leonardo responded with a furrowed brow. “Oh, yes... no one wants to lose sight of Miss Borges,” Gustavo joked. Leo

Stay with us, right here on Jorge Nunes’s podcast!” Jorge called the commercials after noticing Bella’s enigmatic look. “Any problem?”“No, we have visitors,” Bella pointed to the door.Nathan managed to see Andreia and quickly got up. “Is that possible?”Andreia, moved by what she heard, entered with a smile, eyes brimming with tears.“Hello, Nathan. I needed to see you before I leave.”Nathan stepped closer to her. “Leave? Are you going on a trip?”“Yes, it’s necessary,” Andreia nodded. “But I wanted to say goodbye properly.”Nathan gave a slight smile. “Everything I said here was the truth. I don’t blame you, Miss Sterling, for what happened. You did what you had to do, given the chaos your husband caused.”“Thank God, that’s all in the past now. And I hope you move forward successfully with your life.” Andreia hugged Nathan. “Goodbye... my son..."Nathan felt a lump in his throat. “Goodbye... mother..."Jorge approached Bella, silently tha

Gustavo reacted as if his father was interrogating him and quickly changed the subject. “Err... actually, Dad, I wanted to talk to you about something else. Yesterday, I talked to Nathan.” “Yes,” Ernesto smiled. “And we agreed to try to get along,” Gustavo said with a forced smile. “The washing machine almost blew itself today.” “But what does the washing machine have to do with our family’s future?” Ernesto raised his eyebrows even with his helmet on. “Nathan offered to help us financially and socially,” Gustavo announced like a TV presenter. “When Mom returns from exile, she’ll go straight to Green Coral. What do you think?” “Your mother isn’t interested in material things or fancy houses.” Ernesto raised his index finger. “She wants to get closer to the son who was absent.” Gustavo scratched the back of his neck. “Nathan said he was willing to try to get closer too.” Ernesto cheered. “Ah, now we’re in sync! I’ll talk to your mother, and we’ll arrange all this. Do you think i

  • Chapter 1089 Probing His Dad

Matthew didn’t waste time heading to Karl’s office. After all, they were on the same floor. Inside, Karl and Evan were attending to important matters. From time to time, Karl adjusted himself in his dress pants, a result of leaving the house in a hurry without underwear. “Things are getting tense at the university,” Karl said. “The student council is causing trouble instead of guiding each other to study.” Evan shook his head. “They want to philosophize and criticize capitalism, even though they come from the most influential families in Blue Cove. Who understands?” “I don’t have time to understand. We need an urgent meeting with Meirelles—” Karl noticed Matthew’s entrance. “Son! Come here.” Matthew entered, glancing sideways at Evan. The secretary hesitated, unsure if he should stay nearby. “Is there a problem, son?” Karl smiled paternalistically. “Remember, now you can always count on your old man.” “Can I? Will I at least get the truth, just for a change?” Matthew crossed hi

João Pedro’s answer caused Matthew to react as if he’d been shot. João Pedro, sensing that his listener was having difficulty believing, took his phone and showed it to Matthew. Matthew nodded, convinced: João Pedro’s phone was a J.J. brand, the same model Matthew had bought last year when he first discovered he was a Sterling. Matthew remembered that photos taken with his phone came out with excellent image quality. He himself considered an experienced photographer. “Got it. And you decided to send the photo to me...?” Matthew raised one eyebrow. João Pedro started acting like an excited teenager. “I sent the photo to your phone because I – or rather, my whole family – are your fans, Mr. Sterling!” Matthew found that funny. “Really? You found out my personal number...” “Hey, someone with my reputation can get certain things. I just called here and identified myself. No one thought I’d do anything dishonest with your number, right?” João Pedro puffed out his chest, proud. “And

“I told him our mother expects more than just a new house,” Gustavo said, staring at the shaky machine.“What did he say?” Bella grew serious. “Did he promise to give her a chance?”“He said he won’t promise anything but that he’ll try. Maybe when Mom comes out of hiding...”“Exactly. I don’t know if Mom still needs to be in hiding. Vicente Gouveia and Miss Sterling are officially divorced, and nothing about Mom has made the news.” Bella flinched as the washing machine made a sound it shouldn’t have.“Let’s talk to Dad. Maybe when Mom returns, she’ll go straight to Green Coral or Golden Sun!” Gustavo cracked his first smile of the day.“Now you’re talking.” Bella patted her brother’s arm and pointed at the basket. “If this junk holds out for one more round, there you go.”Bella walked off. Gustavo laughed, watching the machine spin.Once alone, he couldn’t help but think of Patricia — now single. His phone rang. Gustavo checked the caller and widened his eyes.Looking around to make s
