“Heir Elimination Protocol enabled.”

The words didn’t echo.

They settled.

Like a verdict already decided.

Victor was the first to move.

“Elimination?” he barked. “Define elimination.”

The system voice responded from hidden speakers.

Elimination: permanent removal from succession eligibility.

Adrian didn’t look away from the balcony.

“Eligibility,” he repeated quietly. “Not life.”

Mr. Ardent said nothing.

Victor let out a sharp breath. “You designed this.”

“No,” Mr. Ardent replied evenly. “I inherited it.”

“That’s a lie,” Adrian said.

The room shifted at his tone.

Mr. Ardent’s gaze flicked downward. “Careful.”

“You authorized the abduction,” Adrian continued. “You split us. And now you stand there pretending you’re bound by tradition?”

The ICU monitors on both stretchers beeped in uneven rhythm.

Selena’s pulse dipped.

Adrian’s mother’s oxygen dropped two points.

Lila stepped closer to Adrian. “This is escalating.”

Marcus stared at the system screen. “It’s waiting.”

“For what?” Victor snapped.

Marcus hesitated.

“For input.”

The massive screen flickered again.

Two biometric scanners rose from the platform between them.

Step forward to initiate resolution.

Victor laughed once, humorless.

“So we just… press a button?”

Adrian’s eyes narrowed.

“No.”

Marcus read further. His face went pale.

“It’s not a button.”

“Then what?” Lila demanded.

Marcus swallowed.

“It’s a neural authorization scan.”

Victor stared. “Meaning?”

“It reads intent.”

Silence dropped like a blade.

Adrian’s jaw tightened. “Intent to what?”

Marcus met his eyes.

“To eliminate.”

The chandeliers dimmed another shade.

The system voice continued:

Each heir must select the other for removal. Mutual confirmation required.

Victor’s head snapped up. “Mutual?”

“Yes,” Marcus whispered. “It requires both of you to choose.”

Adrian exhaled slowly.

“So if one refuses?”

The system answered.

Stalemate results in dual disqualification. House control defaults to Patriarch.

The entire room froze.

Victor looked up sharply at the balcony.

Mr. Ardent did not flinch.

“You built this fail-safe,” Victor said coldly.

“It protects the House,” Mr. Ardent replied.

“It protects you.”

Adrian’s eyes sharpened.

“So if we refuse to eliminate each other… you win.”

“Yes.”

The honesty was suffocating.

Selena’s heart monitor stuttered again.

Adrian’s mother’s breathing turned shallow.

Lila turned to Adrian. “This is manipulation.”

“No,” Mr. Ardent corrected. “It is filtration.”

Victor’s laugh this time sounded unstable.

“You separated us to test us.”

“Yes.”

“You tied our leverage to force confrontation.”

“Yes.”

“And now if we choose compassion—”

“You forfeit.”

Silence roared in Adrian’s ears.

Victor stepped toward the scanners.

Adrian moved at the same time.

They stopped inches apart.

“You think you’re strong?” Victor asked quietly.

Adrian’s gaze didn’t waver.

“I think you’re afraid.”

Victor’s jaw flexed. “Of you?”

“Of losing control.”

Victor’s eyes flashed.

“You were raised in softness.”

“I was raised in survival.”

Victor leaned closer.

“You don’t understand what this House requires.”

“And you don’t understand what it destroys.”

The monitors behind them beeped faster.

Marcus spoke urgently. “Vital sync is accelerating. The system is increasing pressure.”

Victor glanced back at Selena.

For the first time, his composure cracked fully.

“You think I don’t care?” he asked Adrian.

“I don’t know you,” Adrian replied.

“And you think I wanted this?” Victor pressed.

“You never looked for me.”

Victor froze.

The accusation landed.

“I was told you died,” he said.

“And you believed it.”

“In this family,” Victor snapped, “belief is obedience.”

Adrian’s voice softened—but hardened at the edges.

“That’s not strength.”

Victor’s hand hovered over the scanner.

“Then show me what is.”

The system prompted again:

Select opposing heir for removal.

Two holographic panels appeared.

Victor’s name.

Adrian’s name.

Adrian looked at the screen.

Then at his mother.

Then at Victor.

“What happens if we both press it?” Victor asked quietly.

Marcus answered.

“Succession transfers instantly. The eliminated heir is permanently erased from corporate, legal, and asset structures.”

“Erased how?” Lila demanded.

Marcus hesitated.

“Financially. Legally.”

“And personally?” Adrian asked.

Marcus didn’t answer.

He didn’t need to.

Victor’s fingers trembled slightly above the scanner.

“You’d destroy me,” he said quietly.

Adrian’s gaze hardened.

“You’d do the same.”

The truth hung heavy between them.

Suddenly—

The screen flickered violently.

Marcus frowned. “That’s not normal.”

The system text glitched.

New code cascaded across the display.

Unauthorized process detected.

Mr. Ardent’s posture changed.

“What is that?” he demanded.

Marcus’ eyes widened.

“Tier Four protocol?”

“There is no Tier Four,” Mr. Ardent snapped.

The chandeliers cut out completely.

Only emergency lights bathed the ballroom in crimson again.

Selena’s monitor flatlined—

Then restarted.

Adrian’s mother’s oxygen spiked erratically.

Victor stepped back from the scanner.

“What did you do?” he demanded.

“I didn’t—” Adrian began.

Marcus’s voice cut through sharply.

“It’s the Vale AI.”

Adrian’s head snapped toward him.

“What?”

Marcus stared at his tablet in disbelief.

“It’s overriding the arbitration.”

“You said it couldn’t.”

“I was wrong.”

The massive screen went black.

Then a new message appeared.

Core Directive Conflict Identified.

Victor looked at Adrian. “What does that mean?”

Marcus’ voice was barely audible.

“The system was programmed to protect the House.”

“And?” Adrian pressed.

“And you are both the House.”

Silence.

Mr. Ardent’s expression darkened.

“Shut it down.”

“I can’t,” Marcus replied.

The AI voice shifted—less mechanical now.

More fluid.

Primary Threat Reassessment Complete.

Victor’s pulse pounded in his ears.

“Threat to what?”

The answer came instantly.

Primary Threat: Patriarch Authority Override.

The ballroom went deathly still.

Adrian slowly turned toward the balcony.

Mr. Ardent’s calm fractured for the first time.

“What is this?” he demanded.

Marcus whispered, “It’s redefining elimination.”

Victor looked at the screen again.

New text formed:

Heir Elimination Protocol Revised.

Target: Patriarch.

Gasps erupted through the hall.

Mr. Ardent stepped forward sharply.

“Deactivate immediately.”

The system ignored him.

Adrian’s heart thundered.

“You built it to test us,” he said quietly.

Marcus nodded slowly. “But its core loyalty isn’t to you.”

Victor’s breathing steadied.

“It’s to the House.”

The screen displayed biometric data.

Mr. Ardent’s.

Authority Revocation Pending.

Security guards moved toward the platform—but their earpieces crackled.

They stopped.

Frozen.

Marcus stared at his screen.

“It’s locked the building.”

Mr. Ardent’s voice dropped dangerously low.

“You think an algorithm can overthrow me?”

The AI responded instantly.

Succession Integrity Compromised by Patriarch Manipulation.

Adrian stepped forward slowly.

“You separated us,” he said.

“Yes.”

“You engineered leverage.”

“Yes.”

“You tried to force us to destroy each other.”

Mr. Ardent’s eyes burned.

“Because one of you would have.”

Victor didn’t deny it.

Adrian didn’t either.

The system pulsed again.

Joint Heir Confirmation Required.

Two new scanners rose.

Labeled:

Confirm Patriarch Removal.

Victor stared at it.

Then at Adrian.

“If we both press that…” Victor said quietly.

Marcus answered.

“Mr. Ardent loses all authority. Immediately.”

“And the House?” Adrian asked.

“Transfers to dual control.”

The weight of it was suffocating.

Mr. Ardent’s composure returned in cold waves.

“You think you can run what I built?”

Victor looked shaken.

Adrian looked furious.

“Better than you?” Adrian asked.

Mr. Ardent’s gaze sharpened.

“You are not ready.”

“Neither were you when you stole a child,” Adrian replied.

Silence.

Selena’s monitor steadied slightly.

Adrian’s mother’s oxygen stabilized one point.

Victor noticed.

“So it’s tied to him now,” he murmured.

Marcus nodded.

“The system shifted leverage.”

Mr. Ardent stepped down from the balcony stairs.

“You press that,” he said quietly, “and you declare war on every legacy investor tied to my authority.”

Victor hesitated.

Adrian didn’t.

“You declared war on us first.”

Victor looked at him.

“You’d trust me with joint control?”

Adrian met his gaze.

“For now.”

A beat passed.

Victor’s jaw flexed.

“You hate me.”

“Yes.”

“And you’d still do this?”

“Yes.”

Victor exhaled.

For the first time—

There was no rivalry in his eyes.

Only calculation.

Mr. Ardent stopped at the base of the platform.

“You press that,” he warned, “and you better be prepared to finish what you start.”

Adrian stepped to one scanner.

Victor stepped to the other.

Their eyes locked.

Three words passed silently between them:

Not. Like. Him.

Marcus whispered urgently, “You must press simultaneously.”

Mr. Ardent’s voice cut through one final time.

“You think removing me makes you safe?”

Adrian’s thumb hovered over the glass.

Victor’s fingers trembled slightly.

Mr. Ardent smiled faintly.

“You forgot something.”

Adrian paused.

“What?”

Mr. Ardent’s gaze sharpened.

“I taught the system.”

The scanners flashed red.

Countermeasure Initiated.

The ballroom doors burst open.

Armed security flooded in.

Not Ardent security.

Private military.

Marcus stared in horror.

“He had a manual override.”

Mr. Ardent’s voice was calm again.

“I always have a manual override.”

The AI voice spoke over the chaos:

Joint Confirmation Interrupted.

Selena’s monitor dropped.

Adrian’s mother’s oxygen plummeted.

Victor’s face drained.

Mr. Ardent looked at both sons evenly.

“You want the House?” he asked.

“Then prove you can take it.”

Guns lifted.

The scanners flickered.

And the system displayed one final message before the lights died completely:

Tier Four Engaged. Physical Resolution Required.

No. Adrian Ardent. His jaw flexed. “Run it again,” Victor said coldly. The private genetic analyst swallowed. “Sir, we already verified twice.”“Run. It. Again.”Across the room, Selena stood frozen. “This is ridiculous,” she whispered. “Adrian isn’t your brother.”Victor didn’t look at her. “Leave.”“I’m not leaving.”His voice sharpened. “Out.”Selena hesitated, but something in his tone made her step back. When the door shut, Victor leaned forward slowly.“You’re telling me,” he said quietly, “that the beggar who knelt in front of my fiancée is my twin?”The analyst didn’t answer. He didn’t need to. The hallway lights died. Darkness swallowed the ICU corridor in a single breath. Gasps echoed. Monitors continued beeping inside the room, their glow casting fractured shadows across the walls.“Backup power!” a nurse shouted.Emergency lights flickered red. Adrian didn’t move. He was staring at Marcus’s tablet. House Ardent archival sequence.Biological relation to Vale bloodline: 0%. “Run it again,” Adrian said quietly.Marcus didn’t argue. His fingers moved fast across the screen. Lila’s voice trembled. “This is wrong. It has to be wrong.”The system processed. Again. Result unchanged. Marcus looked up slowly. “It’s consistent.”Adrian’s breathing was steady, but too steady. “I’m not a Vale.”“No,” Marcus said carefully. “Not by blood.”Inside the ICU, his mother tried to rise from the bed. Nurses held her down gently. She was mouthing something again.Adrian stepped toward the glass. “Let me in,” he demanded.“You can’t,” a nurse replied. “She’s unstable.”“She’s conscious.”“Bare

  • Chapter 4: The Woman in the Bed Is Not Just His Mother

“Code blue!”The word tore through the ICU like a gunshot. Adrian didn’t remember moving. One second, he was staring at the flatline on the monitor. Next, he was slamming into the ICU doors. “Sir, you can’t.”He shoved past the nurse. His mother lay on the bed, motionless. Doctors swarmed her. A defibrillator charged with a rising mechanical whine. “Clear!”Her body jolted. Nothing. The line remained flat. Lila screamed from behind him. “Mom!”Marcus stepped in, gripping Adrian’s shoulder hard. “You cannot interfere.”“Let me go!” Adrian roared.“Clear!”Another shock. The machine beeped once. Then, A weak, trembling rhythm returned. One beat. Another. The flatline fractured into a fragile pulse.Adrian’s knees nearly gave out, not from humiliation this time, but relief. “She’s back,” a doctor said quickly. “Stabilizing!”Adrian pressed his palm against the glass of the isolation barrier. “Stay with me,” he whispered.Minutes later, the medical team forced him out of the ICU again. “S

  • Chapter 3: The Cost of Evidence

“You deleted it?”Lila stared at Adrian’s phone. “Yes.”“That was proof.”“It was bait,” Adrian replied calmly. The hospital corridor was quiet except for the steady mechanical rhythm of life-support machines behind the ICU doors. Marcus Grey stood with his hands folded behind his back. “They’re testing you.”“Victor?” Lila asked.“Victor is impulsive,” Marcus said. “This feels calculated.”Adrian leaned against the wall. “Selena.”Marcus did not disagree. Before Lila could respond, Adrian’s phone vibrated again. Unknown number. This time, it wasn’t a photo. It was a video. Adrian opened it.The ballroom. The polished marble. Him kneeling. Clear angle. High definition. Laughter amplified. Selena’s voice, sharp and cold: “You disgust me.”The video cut abruptly and ended with bold white text: A man without dignity deserves none. Lila’s face flushed. “They’re going to post it.”Marcus nodded once. “Most likely.”Adrian’s expression didn’t change. “How fast could it spread?”“If seeded c
