He adjusted his position to sit on his butt then finally noticed the ugly stitches sewing up his injury which extended nearly 9 inches across his thigh.
The strange thing was that he only felt some itching coming from his bones and no trace of any pain. Jack did not think about the matter for long. He turned to look at the woman with curly brown hair reaching her shoulders, her skin was dark brown. Sensing his gaze she turned her head and stared at him with her blue eyes blaming him for what the situation had become. “Ma’am thank you for saving my life, by the way the thing behind the door, it’s not an ugly cat with uglier tentacles coming out of its mouth or mouths, right?” Sylvie shrugged and stared at him as though he were some sort of fool. “How would I know, but if you are referring to the monster you killed then I don’t think so” “Alright alright alright” Jack muttered while staring around his surroundings. He noticed they were currently in the place he had been aiming for, the weapon storage room or at least part of it. Chest protectors and plastic shields were thrown chaotically on the ground. His eyes continued roaming across the place until they settled on the sibling duo who were staring at him as if he were a potential threat, but Jack paid no attention to it and instead smiled lightly when he saw how the girl hugged her brother while staring at him cautiously. ' Nice ' His small thoughts were interrupted by the silence that fell over the place especially after his ears had become used to the loud banging sound. ' Thank God, did the monster finally give up!? ' Beside him Sylvie released a long exhausted sigh and muttered, “Thank God the monster finally left” “Umm, ma’am, I don’t want to be negative and pessimistic but, have you watched a horror movie before?” “What?” “I mean this is exactly how the protagonist group ends up dying, I mean I don’t think the monster gave up” Ignoring Sylvie’s ugly expressions Jack decided to inspect the system interface. He wanted to make sure that everything he saw in that strange space the system called the spiritual sea was real. He released a sigh of relief and smiled. Sylvie thought he had also become convinced that the monster had truly left. But in truth Jack’s smile stemmed from the fact that he discovered everything he experienced was real and his smile brightened even more when he noticed that Azoth Armor was still among his items especially after waking from his coma only to find he was no longer wearing it. He thought he had lost it. He cast a glance from the corner of his eye toward Sylvie who was comforting her children while still holding the weapon in her hand and said, “Please ma’am don’t shoot, alright” Sylvie was confused by this strange request and asked tiredly, “What do you mean?” Jack did not speak but instead closed his eyes then summoned the armor. Under the widened eyes of the three, small green lights appeared around the body of the man before them then took the shape of a beautiful armor that looked as if it belonged to a noble knight from the middle ages except that the one wearing it now was not a knight. ' This is better, although it’s still somewhat uncomfortable because of the clothes but who am I to complain, without this beautiful armor that ugly cat would have torn out my guts with its mouth and claws ' His body trembled in fear when he remembered how the monster kept trying to tear him apart. Without the armor he would have died a hundred times!. “Awesome!” Sylvie ignored the comments of her children who were clearly amazed by this strange magical display. She stared at the man cautiously and asked while her finger slowly rested on the trigger of the pistol. “Who are you?! And how?, how did you do this?” She pointed with her finger which she continued raising and lowering toward the armor. “How?” Jack scratched his head with a frown before asking, “Ma’am, have you killed one of those monsters before?, I mean the zombies and the animals that are obviously no longer animals” Sylvie nodded her head remembering how she killed a zombie for the first time. It was on top of Gina trying to tear off a piece of her flesh. She tried pulling it away but it was stronger than her. In desperation she pierced its brain with a screwdriver... “Hello...” The voice of Jack pulled her from the memory that had been imprinted into her mind. She nodded her head. “It’s not something I’m proud of but yes I did...” Then she added, “More than one actually” Jack raised his eyebrows but was not surprised. The woman before him seemed capable of more than that. “Good. Then that means you became capable of accessing the system interface. Most likely you heard that voice... how do I describe it” “An ethereal voice” Sylvie said instinctively. “Yes, an ethereal voice. Anyway, that voice belongs to the system, it’s like a computer interface appearing before your eyes showing your personal information, woah, that’s not even your original question” He paused for a moment and continued saying, “I got this armor from killing a giant wasp, you wouldn’t believe its size if I told you. Tell me when you killed the zombie didn’t a colored energy sphere appear above its corpse?” Sylvie shook her head. “No... maybe but perhaps I didn’t notice it” Jack scratched his dry throat and said, “The summary is that killing monsters can give you things called items and that’s how I got my armor. Actually I also got a mirror that can talk, believe me if you heard it talking you’d get a headache...” Jack wanted to speak more and share the information he knew about the system. It was the least he could offer this lady or rather this small family for saving his life. But the words refused to leave his mouth. His throat became so dry that he felt as though the walls of his throat had stuck together.Latest Chapter
chapter 17 : Smith POV : Level up
The last thing Smith felt was a heavy weight pressing down on his back and a pale hand with long nails filled with bits of flesh falling near his face, then his eyes rolled back and he lost consciousness.“Pathetic.”Eric lowered the automatic firearm, ignoring the sound of the system inside his mind, and looked at Julian who had just spoken, then sighed.“Well, the kid is indeed somewhat cowardly, but that’s normal. Eight days ago he was just an ordinary person. Surviving this long is already something worthy of praise.”Julian did not answer. He merely stared at Eric before shaking his head and turning toward Mandy, giving an order calmly.“Mandy. Wake the fat kid up and help him kill these things.”Mandy frowned and could not help but ask,“Boss, I don’t understand. Why do you want to help this fat pig level up?. His personality isn’t suited for fighting.”This time he did not turn to look at the giant woman beside him. He simply opened his mouth and said calmly, in complete contra
chapter 16 : Smith POV : A chance
It consisted of five story apartment buildings connected to one another, forming a square, and in the middle there was a small garden that unfortunately had turned into charcoal after a fire broke out there at the beginning of the catastrophe eight days ago.The complex had only one entrance, a large gate with a smaller door built into the center of it.In front of the gate stood five guards armed with firearms. Some of them wore gear belonging to the police, perhaps they had been policemen... or perhaps they had stripped the equipment from the corpses of policemen.Smith could not help but cast a quick glance at the reason behind the order governing this residential complex.Julian, the terrifying gang leader... or the savior, as people here liked to call him.Eric quickly moved to Julian’s side and gave an order to the guards, or rather to one guard who was sitting relaxed on a plastic chair, and the man waved his hand toward the others.“Open the gate.”Smith raised his eyebrows in
chapter 15 : Smith POV : THE TANKER
Smith swallowed his saliva and lowered his head, avoiding eye contact with the frightening gang leader.“Smith. Tell me, did you prepare a list of what you need?”Smith sweated anxiously. In truth, he had not prepared any list. Wait, in fact he had not even told them he needed parts from outside, this was merely Julian’s idea that he forced onto him out of nowhere.Afraid Julian might kill him, he quickly turned the gears in his brain and soon opened his mouth, trying not to stutter.“I need the ma...”He stopped midway through his sentence when he saw Julian raise his hand to interrupt him.Smith rubbed his hands together and asked, even adding a respectful title in his words, “L-leader, what is it?”“Just tell me where we can find the things you need. I don’t want to hear the rest of the bullshit.”The poor fat man released a sigh of relief, then thought for a brief moment before opening his mouth and speaking while counting on his fingers with each place he named.“Hospitals, large
chapter 14 : Smith POV : big mouth
“I heard you claim you can make cars run again?”Smith stared at the frightening bald man who looked like a gangster. He raised his hand and scratched the back of his head nervously.“Well yes, something like that.”“Something like that?” The gangster raised the eyebrows he did not have with a frown, apparently dissatisfied with the answer.“Give me a clearer answer. Can you or not?”Smith patted the hood of a four wheel drive jeep beside him and said impatiently and nervously,“Man, you have to understand that Origin Energy only affected technology like electronic chips, while mechanical components are outside the range of its influence...”The loud banging sound startled him, making him stop speaking with a frightened expression. The gangster lifted his hand from the hood, leaving behind a clear handprint on the metal!.“Smith!. That’s your name right? Please keep these physics lessons for someone else...”“Umm actually this isn’t physics...” Smith shut his mouth and swallowed his w
chapter 13 : The Zombie That Spoke
“What THE F...”His face immediately turned pale. He pressed the trigger again, but nothing happened. He did not try a third time. Instead, he threw the defective pistol aside, pulled out another one, and aimed once more at the strange zombie.Just as he was about to fire, he heard the latter speak in the frightened voice of a young man.“Wait, wait, don’t shoot! I’m human, I’m human!”“What!?”Jack quickly stopped his finger from pressing the trigger, but he did not lower the gun.He was still aiming at the strange zombie, who was now raising both arms in surrender while his legs trembled slightly.“Speak again.”Jack ordered with a frown, keeping his eyes fixed on the zombie. At the slightest movement, he would shoot without hesitation. His life was more important than some talking zombie!.“What?, I... what am I supposed to say?”Jack scratched his beard nervously, then pointed his finger toward the zombie trembling in fear, in complete contrast to the rest of the zombies who had l
chapter 12 : psychological shadow
Sylvie frowned and was about to speak but Jack anticipated what she wanted to say.“Ma’am, please don’t worry, I’ll come back, my father didn’t raise me to be ungrateful”Sylvie looked at him coldly, shrugged her shoulders and said,“Who said I was worried, you don’t owe us anything. If you want to leave then do it”Jack did not notice that she was actually tense and afraid that he might abandon them, afraid not for herself but for her children.Jack turned the handle and said seriously,“As I said I’m not an ungrateful person”He tried opening the door but found it stuck. His eyes fell on the dents and he could only curse.' That damned monster damaged the door frame 'And... in truth Jack felt fear, fear that if he opened the door he would find the monster waiting for him. Even though he had become confident in his strength especially after obtaining a firearm, not to mention awakening his latent powers which granted him a supernatural ability. His jaw tightened while staring at the
