The rumble became a roar.

Outside the floor-to-ceiling windows of the Carter Hotel, three black military helicopters dropped from the stormy sky, their searchlights cutting straight through the banquet hall.

The chandeliers shook.

"What the hell is happening?!" Patricia screamed, her diamond necklace trembling.

Every guest rushed to the windows. Down below, on the red carpet, a line of black Rolls-Royces had already blocked the entire street. Twelve cars. Doors opening at the same time.

Men in black suits stepped out, heads bowed, standing in the rain without umbrellas.

And they were all facing the hotel doors waiting for one person.

Liam.

Chloe Carter's perfect cold face cracked for the first time. She grabbed Liam's arm without thinking. Her hand was soft, shaking.

"Liam... what did you do?" she whispered. She was close enough now that Liam could smell her familiar perfume — jasmine and cold winter. For three years, she had never let him touch her. Now she was clinging to him.

Liam looked down at her hand on his arm. His grey eyes were no longer calm. They were furious and hurt.

"Let go, Miss Carter. You already divorced me. Remember?"

His voice was not loud, but it made Chloe flinch and pull away.

The giant doors of the banquet hall burst open.

An old man in a Tang suit, hair white but eyes sharp like a hawk, walked in fast despite his age, rain on his shoulders. Behind him, twenty bodyguards.

Every rich man in the hall recognized him.

"That's... that's Butler Chen! Chairman of Cole Global!" someone gasped. "He controls half of Dragon City's economy!"

Butler Chen — sixty-five, thin, with a scar over his left eyebrow and a presence that made even Ethan Blackwood look like a boy — walked straight past everyone. Past Patricia. Past Chloe. Past Ethan.

He stopped in front of Liam in the cheap white shirt.

And then, in front of the entire elite circle of Dragon City, he knelt.

On one knee.

"Young Master," his voice shook, "Forgive this old man for being late. Your three-year trial is over. The Cole family has been waiting for you."

Silence.

Deathly silence.

Liam Cole, the trash son-in-law who washed dishes — had a butler who made billionaires kneel.

Ethan's face turned white. "No... impossible! He is a nobody! A beggar! This is a prank!"

Patricia's mouth opened but no sound came out.

Only one person didn't look shocked.

From the corner of the hall, a young girl in a simple pink dress ran forward. Mia Carter, Chloe's 19-year-old cousin sister. The only one in the family who ever smiled at Liam. Big round eyes, messy ponytail, cheeks red from running.

"Brother-in-law!" she cried, and to everyone's horror, she hugged Liam's arm. "I knew it! I knew you weren't a loser! my cousin is so stupid!"

Mia was the only warmth Liam had known in that house. Sweet, clumsy, loyal, he has always find her intresting.

Liam's cold face softened for half a second when he saw her. He patted her head.

"Butler Chen," Liam said, his voice returning to ice, "Who owns this hotel?"

Butler Chen smiled coldly. "You do, Young Master. You have owned it since you were ten. The Carter family just rents the hall from you."

He turned to Patricia and Chloe, his eyes like knives.

"And from now on, the rent is increased. Ten times."

Patricia collapsed into a chair.

Chloe stood frozen, her beautiful eyes now filled with tears, regret, and something else — shock, and a strange, painful realization that the man she had thrown away was the man every woman in this hall was now staring at with desire and fear.

Liam looked at Ethan Blackwood one last time.

"You said you would invest fifty million dollars in the Carters tomorrow?"

Ethan swallowed. "Y-yes..."

Liam smiled that terrifying calm smile again.

"That fifty million dollars comes from my bank. Let's see if you still dare to invest after tonight."

He turned, holding Mia's hand, and walked out of the hall. Every man in black bowed as he passed.

Behind him, Chloe whispered, so quietly only she could hear:

"Liam... don't go."
