Chapter One Hundred and Eighteen: A NEW VENTURE
Marcus and the rest of his family had gotten home in the nick of time even though they went through the throng of reporters and civilians that ambushed them in front of the courthouse, on the road as they drove by and at their mansion gate. The turnout was a massive shock to the Wei family as they didn’t expect that much people to actually come up to them holding up placards of hope and congratulations and even giving them words of courage and upliftment. It was a nice change of pace for Marcus as his life went from constant attacks and trouble to peaceful and serene. A bottle was cracked open once the family had made it through their gate and glasses were filled with alcohol to celebrate their win against one of their own. A celebration that was more solemn than it was of happiness. The family sat in silence even amidst their so-called celebration as they relived what had happened in the courtroom. It was a hard day even with the win and congratulations that they got
Chapter One Hundred and Seventeen: PUT AWAY
The other trial between Micah against Eric took place almost immediately after the trial between Marcus and the latter. It went exactly how Marcus and the rest of the family saw it going but they didn’t expect Eric not to say anything to them or even look in their direction when he was walked out of the room. Eric and his defense failed woefully after they decided to base their defense on fallacies, goodwill and denial of the evidence. The courtroom was, like before, in shock at the turn of events. Eric Wei did not lose just one but two court cases to his own family members, all in the space of four hours. It was outrageous. A third and fourth case was meant to take place; cases by Lori Hudgins for kidnapping and extortion and Elias Wei, his own father for money laundering and fraud from the company as a fellow shareholder, but the cases were put of until the next day after everyone had had a chance to rest, regroup and reconstruct their evidence and arguments. Surprisingly though, t
Chapter One Hundred and Sixteen: THE TRIAL
In the course of the rest of the interrogation Eric had all but said that he was guilty, even when his lawyer came around and the evidence that was brought by the family to the precinct was reviewed and brought against him, he maintained his innocence. In the end Eric was taken away and was set to stand trial to determine if he would be granted bail amidst the charges that were brought against him.The trial was held the next day due to the severity and status of their name and unsurprisingly to the rest of the family, Eric was granted bail for the amount of three million dollars due to his status and the number of crimes brought up against him. Immediately after the closed hearing, Eric had told his lawyer to get the money out of his accounts but unfortunately for him Marcus and his father had blocked it and removed all the money from it through legal ways of course.Eric had to spend the next week in a jail cell while his court date drew near and the public speculated heavily on wha
Chapter One Hundred and Fifteen: OLD PLANS
The next day had come far too quickly and that was a good thing for Marcus because he had not slept a wink ever since he left the study and went to his room under the pretense of getting some rest. He sat on his bed with full clothing mentally preparing himself for what he knew was going to be a mentally challenging day ahead of him. A knock made him remove his head from his hands and before he could invite the person into the room, the door was opened and Micah stepped in.“Marcus. We’re all ready to leave. Is everything all right?”Marcus sighed and got up from the bed. Yes, that was another reason for his distress. His family had insisted on following him to the precinct as well. According to them, they wanted to present their separate cases on their own. Rachel for Lori who was till in hiding with her family and was under protection just in case Eric got out. Micah for the attack on his life months before and Elias for moral support and to act as a witness in any position he was n
One Hundred and Fourteen: DAMNING EVIDENCE
Marcus had stormed out of the second interrogation room with Callum on his heels and an unknown feeling creeping into his soul. He shook it off, wanting to interrogate the rest of the captured men before he jumped into conclusions. Callum’s words ran off his ear as he made decisive strides towards the other interrogation room, his mind set but Callum didn’t take no for an answer. He stepped in front of Marcus and stared him down causing Marcus to stop in his tracks abruptly and glare.“What was that in there!?” Callum screamed at him, finally fed up with his bullshit. Marcus looked at him obviously not in a mood to answer the question. Callum blinked and spoke up again. “Let me repeat myself again. Why the fuck would you go off on a suspect like that? I warned you that if you acted a certain type of way then you would be removed from the premises and the investigation all together.“I did nothing out of turn.” Marcus said as a matter of fact.Callum chuckled dryly and placed his han
One Hundred and Thirteen: TAKING THE DEAL
Marcus and Callum had left Eric in the interrogation room with the former fuming. If it was an animation movie, smoke would be coming out of his ears and his face would be perpetually red but it wasn’t and all that could be seen was the gritting of his teeth and the reddening of the tip of his ears. He huffed as Callum tried to keep up with his pace as they walked through the hallway. “Calm down Marcus. Don’t let him get to you.” Callum spoke.“He won’t.” Marcus hissed under his breath. “Then why are you rushing down the halls?” Callum asked as he stopped Marcus in place by grabbing his arm. Marcus turned to face him, his breathing becoming even but his face betraying his emotions. “We have to get the testimonies of the other men, don’t we?” Marcus asked back.Callum let go of his arm and sighed.“We do but I don’t think you should be involved anymore, not if you’re going to be so high strung from just seeing your own uncle.”“Detective…” Marcus started to argue but Callum raised h
Chapter One Hundred and Twelve: ALL LIES
“Nephew you’re here. Help me. Get me away from these men.” Eric screamed out at Marcus but Marcus stayed steady in pointing the weapon at him not flinching or falling for his clearly apparent ruse. This man, still with the lies, Marcus thought to himself. Why was he so adamant with this? Why couldn’t he just be good and love his family? It was unnerving to say the least. “Save your words. We’ve caught you here. Nothing you say will get you out of this one.” Marcus hissed at him, disappointment etched on his face. “No. Hold on! You don’t understand. These men…” Eric shouted out in a bid to halt the imminent arrest but Marcus cut him off. “These men what? Do you think anything you say will be believed?” Marcus questioned.Eric pointed to the men with a wild look in his eyes, his words carefully planned out.“These men called me here through an unknown number. They threatened me that they would kill the entire family if I didn’t come to this location and give them approximately 16 mil
Chapter One Hundred and Eleven: CAUGHT
Marcus had gone home in expectation of the next day he was going to get his uncle for what he did but not before he called Coleman and Callum and informed them of the situation that would take place, also telling them be prepared and at the location ahead of time so that they would be able to catch not just his uncle but Ivan and his men on the kidnaping charges. He got out of his car and went into the mansion with a small smile on his face. Due to the plan, he already had formulating in his brain he was oblivious to the man who stood in front of him with a sneer on his face. Once he noticed the man, he stopped and exchanged looks. Eric stood in front of him, his arms crossed and a frown on his face. “Uncle.” Marcus said under his breath. “Nephew. Where have you been?” Eric asked. “None of your business because I don’t recall us ever speaking about my whereabouts for the day.”Eric curled his lip just as Marcus saw the briefcase in his hand.“A briefcase. Work? I thought you were
Chapter One Hundred and Ten: DOUBLECROSS
While his family had gone back home, Marcus had gone straight to the somewhat abandoned motel where Lori’s family had been kept hostage with his men in tow. He had called some of his personal guards to follow him to the location just in case green eyes or his men had alternative ideas to the meeting he had also called them about. He hadn’t cared to learn their names. It was not worth his time to be honest. He waited for some time before he could hear the purring of a car that was coming into view and pulling up to the parking lot of the building. The men from before, got down from the car, each of them giving Marcus some sort of stink eye because of the men he had standing behind him before they stepped forward and acknowledged him.“Wei. I see you brought some men with you to our meeting. Now, why would you do that?” Green eyes spoke.Marcus shrugged.“I might have you on my payroll but it doesn’t necessarily mean that I trust any one of you. These men are what you call an insurance
