Sarah approached Marcus' hospital bed, her expression a mixture of concern and relief. She wore a simple white blouse and jeans, her dark hair pulled back in a loose ponytail. But behind her casual appearance, Marcus could see the worry etched in the lines around her eyes as her gaze moved upon him.

"You look like hell," she said with a dry chuckle, perching on the edge of the bed where he had indicated.

Marcus attempted a smile, wincing as pain shot through his bruised face. "Nice to see you too, Sarah."

She reached out, her hand hovering over his bandaged arm before gently settling on his uninjured shoulder.

"Seriously, Marcus, I leave to travel and you get yourself into even more trouble than before.” She huffed at him before continuing. “Are you okay? When I heard what happened..."

"I'm fine," he interrupted, not wanting her to worry more than she already was. "A broken rib, some bruises, a mild concussion. Nothing I can't handle." He shifted slightly, trying to find a more comf

Marcus felt tension coil in his stomach. He hadn't expected them to find him here, though he should have known better. If Davon was involved in his accident then it only made sense that Scarlett would get involved as well. But he didn’t think that she would show up at the hospital of all places. "How did you get past security?" Marcus asked, though he didn't really care about the answer since they were in the room already. Scarlett's lips curled into a humorless smile. "Money opens all doors, Marcus. You should know that by now."She moved closer to the bed, her gaze sweeping over his bruised body, a small frown of concern glancing over her features. Kane remained by the door, his posture alert, eyes scanning the room for potential threats."Who was the woman?" Scarlett asked, her tone casual but her eyes sharp."A friend," Marcus replied simply. "She's leaving town tonight."Scarlett nodded, seemingly satisfied with his answer as she touched his arm."Good. You don't need distract

“Who the hell was that woman?” Rachel asked him, her brows furrowed in confusion and slight annoyance.Marcus ran a hand through his hair, not liking the fact that Scarlett and Rachel had seen one another. He sighed. “She’s no one. A friend.” He muttered shortly.“A friend who just threatened me.” Rachel retorted, dropping the bouquet in her hands on the night stand beside Marcus’ bed. She placed her hands on her hips and scoffed.“I came here to check up on you after I heard what had happened. Your family is already in the lobby trying to sort some things out. If you knew that you had a mistress or sugar mummy or whatever, you should have told me. That would have made the line in this arrangement very clear.”“Wait, hold on.” Marcus tried to stop her from blabbing away because there was no way in hell that Scarlett and he had anything going on but he was not going to tell Rachel of how he lived his life in the past.“You already knew that I had Davon and regardless of how that turn

It didn't take much to convince Marcus as he was sure that the man was the one that they were looking for. He raised his hand and pointed to the man at the corner who looked like he would rather be anywhere than in police custody."That's him.""Are you sure?" Ramirez asked, squinting at Marcus. "I'm positive." Marcus replied. Ramirez rubbed his hands together."Then we have our second man. We'll separate him from the rest and investigate him and his partner and get the information on who sent them. Thank you for your time. And Wei, you can go back now."Marcus made no move to leave. He gave Ramirez a steely look."I'm staying. I want to be in the interrogation room with you when you question them.""Sir, that's against protocol. We can't… ""I don't care what your protocol is. I will sit down in that room and ask the questions that I am entitled to."The officers felt like they had to say something but with the way that Marcus stared at them and how his security loomed in the backg

Marcus left the station almost immediately after hearing what Alejandro had said. The officers wanted him to stay and hear what the other criminal had to say to better corroborate that Eleanor Wong was really the one behind his hit and potential assassination but Marcus didn't want to stay any longer.Alejandro's testimony was enough for him and if the officers ended up finding any other thing then he would be informed later on but for now, he had to teach that woman a lesson for what they tried to accomplish. But how would he do that when she was already behind bars. He could have her killed off but that was not the kind of man he was. Just then a thought came to him. A way to make Eleanor’s time in prison more horrific than she liked.Marcus smiled to himself and as he got inside his car, he pulled out his phone, calmly dialing the number of someone that he knew would help him. The phone rang only once before the person picked up the call."Hello. Yes, get to my house as soon as you

About two weeks had gone by with Marcus still sticking to his normal routine of work, family and his personal time. He had heard back from Kane about the little job that he had the man do. And so far it had gone exactly to plan Eleanor was caught with a very suspicious pouch of coke and a shank. She obviously denied even seeing either of them before and claimed that it belonged to someone else but when she couldn’t point out who, she became the main target. So much so that she was thrown into solitary for her to have some time to reflect on her actions. Some time being a few months. All in all, it was a good lesson. The only thing that remained now was to go back to work and keep Scarlett at bay until the appropriate time for them to strike came. He was about to get right on the former and attend to some documents that needed his attention but then someone came barging through his office door with a worried look on her face. Marcus looked up at a worried and frantic Rachel wondering

A day had passed and in that time Rachel had received several text messages and calls from her former lover Davon Black. She had told Marcus and the rest of the family, even her own, of every text or call Davon ever sent to her.Just like they had done when she first told them, the family had warned her to refrain from speaking to him and always stay indoors to avoid him finding out where she was holed up. Rachel did as she was told but still wondered what Marcus was doing to remove Davon from the equation as he had not really told her anything concerning his supposed plan. Even though she had her doubts, Rachel chose to believe that Marcus could help her. He had helped her get her company back from the vultures that flew over her head with just one action so he could definitely get a Mafia member off her back. Right?Marcus on his own kept away from Rachel in the meantime. Truth be told he had silenced the board members at Rachel's company but her uncle's were a different case. He ha

As Davon left the office, the faint but sure cacophony of him causing trouble and disrupting the environment flooded Marcus' ears causing him to scowl at no one in particular. The noise, no doubt from the men that Lori had brought up to escort Davon out of the building. After some time, the noise subsided allowing Marcus to calm his tensed shoulders and focus on some other important things. He was thrown off guard when Davon appeared at his office and even though the man was on his home turf, Marcus couldn't do anything because at that point he didn't know what kind of power Davon himself held, the cartel notwithstanding. Marcus didn't think that the impromptu meeting turned out great but at least Davon didn't come in throwing hands. He puffed his chest to stand up to and counter Davon while he was here. Marcus knew he was more than capable, he couldn't help but feel that his opposition had the upper hand. Something about being raised in the underworld told him that. He sighed, brou

Marcus went back to his home after the massacre that Davon had brought to his place of work, after the sirens filled the air as police officers arrived on the scene, after the last man standing of the opposition was taken into custody, after some of his employees had to be wheeled away in bags and after Marcus had been interrogated by the officers on scene about the gunfight that happened in broad daylight. As he stepped foot into the building, the voice of a very worried Rachel echoed in the lobby."Marcus!"She ran towards him not at all minding her step on the tiled slippery floors. She cupped his face as she reached him. Marcus hissed as he felt a sting on his left cheek where Rachel touched. The cut must have been from the rain of glass that fell on top of him during the attack."What happened to you?" She asked as Marcus removed her hand from his face to avoid being smothered too much."It's nothing. Don't worry about it." He said to her, his voice low and ragged. In all honesty

  • Chapter One Hundred and Seventeen: PUT AWAY

The other trial between Micah against Eric took place almost immediately after the trial between Marcus and the latter. It went exactly how Marcus and the rest of the family saw it going but they didn’t expect Eric not to say anything to them or even look in their direction when he was walked out of the room. Eric and his defense failed woefully after they decided to base their defense on fallacies, goodwill and denial of the evidence. The courtroom was, like before, in shock at the turn of events. Eric Wei did not lose just one but two court cases to his own family members, all in the space of four hours. It was outrageous. A third and fourth case was meant to take place; cases by Lori Hudgins for kidnapping and extortion and Elias Wei, his own father for money laundering and fraud from the company as a fellow shareholder, but the cases were put of until the next day after everyone had had a chance to rest, regroup and reconstruct their evidence and arguments. Surprisingly though, t

In the end Eric was taken away and was set to stand trial to determine if he would be granted bail amidst the charges that were brought against him.The trial was held the next day due to the severity and status of their name and unsurprisingly to the rest of the family, Eric was granted bail for the amount of three million dollars due to his status and the number of crimes brought up against him. Immediately after the closed hearing, Eric had told his lawyer to get the money out of his accounts but unfortunately for him Marcus and his father had blocked it and removed all the money from it through legal ways of course.Eric had to spend the next week in a jail cell while his court date drew near and the public speculated heavily on wha

  • Chapter One Hundred and Fifteen: OLD PLANS

The next day had come far too quickly and that was a good thing for Marcus because he had not slept a wink ever since he left the study and went to his room under the pretense of getting some rest. He sat on his bed with full clothing mentally preparing himself for what he knew was going to be a mentally challenging day ahead of him. A knock made him remove his head from his hands and before he could invite the person into the room, the door was opened and Micah stepped in.“Marcus. We’re all ready to leave. Is everything all right?”Marcus sighed and got up from the bed. Yes, that was another reason for his distress. His family had insisted on following him to the precinct as well. According to them, they wanted to present their separate cases on their own. Rachel for Lori who was till in hiding with her family and was under protection just in case Eric got out. Micah for the attack on his life months before and Elias for moral support and to act as a witness in any position he was n

He stepped in front of Marcus and stared him down causing Marcus to stop in his tracks abruptly and glare.“What was that in there!?” Callum screamed at him, finally fed up with his bullshit. Marcus looked at him obviously not in a mood to answer the question. Callum blinked and spoke up again. “Let me repeat myself again. Why the fuck would you go off on a suspect like that? I warned you that if you acted a certain type of way then you would be removed from the premises and the investigation all together.“I did nothing out of turn.” Marcus said as a matter of fact.Callum chuckled dryly and placed his han

Marcus and Callum had left Eric in the interrogation room with the former fuming. If it was an animation movie, smoke would be coming out of his ears and his face would be perpetually red but it wasn’t and all that could be seen was the gritting of his teeth and the reddening of the tip of his ears. He huffed as Callum tried to keep up with his pace as they walked through the hallway. “Calm down Marcus. Don’t let him get to you.” Callum spoke.“He won’t.” Marcus hissed under his breath. “Then why are you rushing down the halls?” Callum asked as he stopped Marcus in place by grabbing his arm. Marcus turned to face him, his breathing becoming even but his face betraying his emotions. “We have to get the testimonies of the other men, don’t we?” Marcus asked back.Callum let go of his arm and sighed.“We do but I don’t think you should be involved anymore, not if you’re going to be so high strung from just seeing your own uncle.”“Detective…” Marcus started to argue but Callum raised h

Why was he so adamant with this? Why couldn’t he just be good and love his family? It was unnerving to say the least. “Save your words. We’ve caught you here. Nothing you say will get you out of this one.” Marcus hissed at him, disappointment etched on his face. “No. Hold on! You don’t understand. Do you think anything you say will be believed?” Marcus questioned.Eric pointed to the men with a wild look in his eyes, his words carefully planned out.“These men called me here through an unknown number. Marcus had gone home in expectation of the next day he was going to get his uncle for what he did but not before he called Coleman and Callum and informed them of the situation that would take place, also telling them be prepared and at the location ahead of time so that they would be able to catch not just his uncle but Ivan and his men on the kidnaping charges. He got out of his car and went into the mansion with a small smile on his face. Due to the plan, he already had formulating in his brain he was oblivious to the man who stood in front of him with a sneer on his face. Once he noticed the man, he stopped and exchanged looks. Eric stood in front of him, his arms crossed and a frown on his face. “Uncle.” Marcus said under his breath. “Nephew. • Chapter One Hundred and Ten: DOUBLECROSS

While his family had gone back home, Marcus had gone straight to the somewhat abandoned motel where Lori’s family had been kept hostage with his men in tow. He had called some of his personal guards to follow him to the location just in case green eyes or his men had alternative ideas to the meeting he had also called them about. He hadn’t cared to learn their names. It was not worth his time to be honest. He waited for some time before he could hear the purring of a car that was coming into view and pulling up to the parking lot of the building. The men from before, got down from the car, each of them giving Marcus some sort of stink eye because of the men he had standing behind him before they stepped forward and acknowledged him.“Wei. I see you brought some men with you to our meeting. Now, why would you do that?” Green eyes spoke.Marcus shrugged.“I might have you on my payroll but it doesn’t necessarily mean that I trust any one of you. These men are what you call an insurance

Marcus, Rachel, Micah and Elias got down from their respective cars and walked into the precinct where the evidence Marcus had promised was waiting in Coleman’s safe of personally kept evidence. Marcus looked around to make sure that they weren’t being watched and when he was sure that the coast was clear he entered into the building with the rest of his family. Some officers stood up at the mere sight of almost all the Wei family entering the precinct. It had never happened. At least, not after they had been here asking for help to find their son Marcus in the past. It was a rare sight as most of them knew that this family liked to handle their businesses on their own most times and if they were all here at the same time then something wrong was going on. The officers greeted them as they walked by and as Marcus led them straight to Eric Coleman’s office. The same man his uncle had introduced him to.“Who is it?” Coleman shouted out as he heard a rap on his door. The door opened up
