"Here you go, Mr. Raines," Lily said, setting a leather folder of documents on the table before him, a sleek black card resting on top like an afterthought that cost more than most people's houses. "The handover papers have been prepared. All you need to do is sign."

Daniel — no, Adrian, he supposed, though the name still felt like a coat two sizes too big — stared at the stack in front of him. His own name was printed across the top page in a careful, official font, as if the universe had decided to make his new identity feel real through paperwork alone.

"Your father is tired," Lily continued, her voice gentler now. "Now that his son has been found, he would like to rest."

Daniel swallowed. He hadn't even signed anything yet and already the weight of it pressed down on his shoulders.

"You'll be inheriting the empire," Lily said, as if she were reading off a grocery list rather than reshaping the entire trajectory of his life. "A trillion-dollar fortune. Companies spanning every continent. And this—" she tapped the black card, "—is yours to use freely while you finish school."

Daniel's mouth had gone dry. He hadn't touched the pen yet, and already the room felt smaller, the air thinner, like the walls themselves were leaning in to watch what he'd do next.

"About school," he said quickly, before he could lose his nerve. "There's a problem. I got kicked out."

Something flickered at the corner of Lily's mouth — not quite a smile, but close. "So I heard. Don't worry. It's been taken care of." She said it the way someone might mention they'd remembered to pick up milk. "As for your living arrangements — your landlord has sold his house. You'll be moving into the main building. That tiny space on the roof can be a store or anything, not your home."

It felt like a dream. Not the good kind, not exactly — more like the dizziness of falling in a dream, the ground rushing up but never quite arriving. His entire life had rearranged itself in the space of a single conversation, and no one around him seemed the least bit surprised by it.

He looked at the card again. Unlimited, Lily had said. He needed to hear it confirmed, needed the word to mean something concrete before he could believe it.

"Does that mean I can buy anything I need with it? Anything at all?"

Lily considered the question for a moment, tilting her head slightly, as if deciding how literal to be.

"I wouldn't call it unlimited, exactly," she said. "There's a daily limit of one trillion dollars. So unless you find something that costs more than that in a single day, I suppose the distinction is meaningless. And even then — once the day resets, so does the limit."

Daniel stared at her. "One trillion dollars. Per day." He laughed, short and disbelieving, the sound scraping out of him before he could stop it. "How is that even possible?"

Lily only smiled and slid the pen toward him.

He signed. His hand shook faintly on the first line, steadied by the third, and by the last signature it felt almost natural — as though some quiet, buried part of him had been waiting his whole life to hold a pen like this, sign his name like this, exist like this.

Returning to school felt like stepping into someone else's life wearing his old shoes.

Students who had witnessed his expulsion were surprised to see him again. They kept throwing him glances, obviously talking about him.

He found the Dean waiting for him outside the administrative building, and for a moment Daniel thought the man might actually collapse from how quickly the color drained from his face.

"Mr. Raines," the Dean said, and the name came out strangled, like it physically pained him to say it.

Daniel hadn't even opened his mouth before the Dean was lowering himself to his knees on the pavement, hands clasped, eyes wide with something close to genuine terror.

"Please," the Dean said. "I didn't know. I swear to you, I didn't know who you—" He caught himself, seemed to realize how that sounded, and pressed forward anyway. "The expulsion has already been reversed. Please, I'm begging you, don't let this cost me my position. I have a family."

Daniel didn't know what to say. A week ago, this same man had looked at him like something scraped off a shoe. Now he was on his knees on concrete, apologizing to the air itself for having ever doubted him.

He didn't know exactly what strings his father had pulled, what calls had been made, what quiet threats had traveled down some invisible chain of power to land here, at this man's knees. But whatever they were, they were strong enough to make a grown man beg.

Daniel said nothing for a long moment, unsure if he was supposed to feel powerful or sick. Maybe both.

"Get up," he finally said, quieter than he meant to. "It's fine."

The Dean rose slowly, still trembling, still bowing slightly as he backed away — and Daniel stood there in the courtyard, wondering if this was what having everything was supposed to feel like.

Loud music filled the room as students of Crestmont danced and drank, the yearly party crowning that year's "King of Campus" — an award that, unofficially, always went to whoever wore their wealth the loudest. School staff monitored the event closely, careful to keep it within the polished standards Crestmont prided itself on.Daniel had wanted to sit it out. He didn't feel welcome there, not really — not yet. But Lily had reminded him how much politics mattered in the life he'd stepped into, and that he needed to start learning the game here, in a ballroom full of teenagers, before he ever walked into a boardroom. So he sat alone at the bar, turning a glass of rosé slowly between his fingers, watching the room without quite being part of it.Students drifted past in twos and threes, voices dropping only slightly. Daniel sat with a teacup trembling faintly in his hands, not from its fragility but his own. He'd never felt so tense in his life. Wealth like this didn't just surround a person — it pressed in on them, made the air feel thicker, made every breath feel like it needed permission. He didn't need anyone to tell him who Robert Raines was. Everyone in America, and beyond, knew that name. Fifty trillion dollars. A number so large it stopped being a number and became a kind of myth, the second-richest man on the planet trailing behind at a mere one trillion. Generational wealth so vast it broke calculators, broke comprehension, broke the part of Daniel's brain that tried to make sense of anything anymore today. He lifted the teacup and drank, mostly to give his hands something to do.The taste bloomed across his tongue, warm and faintly floral, and something in his chest loosened before he could stop it. His shoulders dropped. The tightness behind his ribs eased like a held breath finally re

The entire police department was left shocked and confused as the rich and beautiful Lily Foster was bowing to a nobody like Daniel. Even Daniel himself had the same thought in his mind. He had no idea who could be happening, but then he recalled the phone call he had received earlier and realized the woman's voice was the same as the one who spoke to him on the phone. Could it be possible that Lily Foster had really called him?“Well, what the hell are you standing around for?” She yelled, scaring even Daniel as her voice suddenly sounded sharp. “I want him out of there in the next second!”“Y--yes ma'am!” No one could go against her words unless they wanted to lose their jobs. Within the next second, Daniel was released from the cell. Still surprised, he just stood still as Lily's gaze swept over his profile. “Mr Raines, I promise to sort everything out.”Daniel thought he hadn't heard her right. “Mr… Raines?” Surely that was a mistake. “Listen miss, I think you have me confuse

“Young master Daniel! I know you must be surprised, and I promise I will explain everything to you. But I am so grateful that after all these years, you have finally found your way back to us.” The excitement in her voice was unmasked. Unfortunately for her, Daniel didn't share in her excitement. “Who the hell is this? Do you think you're funny? Calling me and wasting my time with this nonsense.” He spat angrily, immediately blaming himself for answering the call. “I am in no mood for whatever you're doing. Don't you ever call this number again!”He sighed frustratingly, his life was falling apart and yet someone thought it would be funny to prank him. His heart started beating in an unusual rhythm and the tears he was so determined not to shed was starting to blur his vision. Just then, the sound of his ring tone filled his ears again. “What the fuck did I just say?!” he answered without checking the caller. He only paused after hearing the angry voice of his landlord on the other
