Chapter 3 : Cheated By An Enemy

Killian's blood froze.

Inside the room, Cassandra was there but she wasn't alone, not organized either and the room felt entirely wrong and stale with the mix of sweat, cologne and the smell of something that shouldn't belong to the office.

She leaned back against the swivel chair without any discomfort like she'd done this before, her legs spread wide in the air, a man was in between, diving in and out of her possessively like a drugged mutt. The swivel spring squealed in protest under their weight.

And Cassandra's voice was a rush of disorganized beats born of dopamine and excitement.

"Ah....oh..Jack..right there. Right there.."

Her moaning cut through Killian's chest like a blade.

The reality crashed through him like a shattering glass; Sawyer West's hostile appearance, the divorce paper, and then this.. that totally shifted the earlier confusion. The woman he submitted his life for, his innocence, to save her empire was cheating on him.

"Cassandra." Killian called. His voice wasn't loud but it was louder to distort the room.

Cassandra jerked up with impulsive force, the swivel chair swaying violently beneath. She pushed the man between her legs away with involuntary force and stumbled to the corner of the room facing the wall. Her chest hammered. She dragged down her dress with shaking fingers, finger pressed over her glistening temple as though migraine was tearing through her head.

"Oh, God.." She gasped.

Her hand dropped to the side, fingers curled in anger as she spun around.

"Are you crazy? Didn't I inform you I needed thirty minutes for an arranged business meet—"

The words died down in her throat.

She'd thought it was one of her employees who'd walked into the moment after she'd strictly told them her office wouldn't be accessible for thirty minutes which was supposed to be for a classified business meeting that was authentically for fun with another man.

But standing there was a man she never expected.

Her voice died down mid-sentence.

Her expression dropped from anger to shock like someone who'd seen a ghost transform.

"You—" Her voice cracked. "—what are you doing here?"

Killian didn't speak immediately. The manilla envelope was still in his hand as realization crashed through him like a wave but he was outwardly calm.

He'd thought Sawyer West's appearance was just a misconception but it was glaring now.

Then he spoke, his voice calm even when inside was a storm of emotions, betrayal, disbelief and anger that comes from signing his life away for a woman who stabbed him in the back.

"So....it was true?" His voice was cold wrapped in steel. "You welcomed me with a divorce paper?" Is that how things work now, Cassandra in the world now? Your world?"

Cassandra didn't speak yet. She was still stabilizing her racing heart.

The man who'd been quiet all along stood up. He's tall, shirtless, belt hanging loose in the air. Unlike Cassandra, his expression was steady calm, eyes flashing with carnal excitement. He pulled up his pants to his waist lazily but didn't work the belt.

"Well, Well, Well." He smirked, tilting his head slightly. "If not the Ex-con,

I decided to come say HELLO after your released? He still got good behavior after a while in that hole."

He turned his head over to Cassandra, eyes glinting in mock amusement.

"I THOUGHT IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE LIFE IMPRISONMENT." He looked back at Killian.

Killian narrowed his eyes on him. Familiarity. Then recognition.

"You—" he paused, his eyes slightly wide in shock.

Jack Moore.

The man that was supposed to be dead. The reason Killian gave himself in for life sentence for Cassandra.

He was actually alive with the woman that was supposed to be his enemy.

Cassandra had cheated on him with their enemy.
