An ambulance rushed Spence into the hospital and he was immediately wheeled into the theater. He had lost so much blood and was barely conscious but the loud noises around him kept him distracted. He fought back the urge to close his eyes and give in to nothingness but one thought dominates in his mind.

“I cannot die until it is all over!”

He practiced the special breathing technique his adopted mother had taught him as a child and the pain from the stab wound subsides. The site became numb but he had lost the strength to move or talk.
