“What?! Who the hell is back?!”
Luke Hamilton, Karina's older brother had almost spat out his drink once his sister broke the news of Hardin's return to him. Karina sighs, sipping her glass of cold wine to help her stay sane. Lule places a hand over his forehead. “Oh Damn! This is bad. He wasn't supposed to be out until like five years. How the hell is he out?” Karina looked so drained that she spoke in a calm tone. She had to struggle to accept the fact it was not all a dream and Hardin had actually come back. “He was granted bail” Luke frowns. “By who?” Karina sighs. “By his father” Luke lets out a short-lived laugh. “Father? Karina, are you forgetting that bastard is a dirty orphan?” Karina cursed under her breath as her wine finished. “I need more” Luke takes away the bottle from her. “What? You're going to day drink and drown yourself in alcohol till your death because of that idiot?” Karina glares at her brother. “You really haven't realized how much of a nightmare this is huh brother? We sent an innocent man to jail and now he is out with bloody hungry eyes like he wants to kill us all. You expect me to fucking relax?” Karina had been stressed all well and had been taking her anxiety pills. She had slept in fear that Hardin would show up in her house and stab her to death. “Who cares what we did and would you lower your voice damnit! What if someone hears us?” Karina sighs. “Why get so worked up? He has always been harmless anyway. Why worry over someone who can't even throw a single punch?” Luke chuckles over a memory he was fond of. Karina rolls her eyes. “Whatever. Don't be dumb and lie low in the meantime. Hardin is probably out for us all so you better watch your back and don't relent. He isn't the same man we knew back then a lot in him has changed” Luke quirks an eyebrow at Karina. “Like what?” Karina starees at Luke. “He looks much stronger, powerful and cold as ice. He isn't that weakling we knew then and until we are sure of his strength. It's better not to fool around” Karina gets up grabs her purse and walks away. Luke sighs deeply until he receives a message from his secretary that the meeting has been set with a group of investors. A huge smile creeps onto his lips and he rises from his seat and makes his way to his office. Hearing about Hardin's return had almost ruined his day but if he sealed a deal with the investors, he would be overjoyed. … “Rejected? W-What do you mean?” Luke was frustrated and didn't bother to hide it as he stared at the investors. They all share a look and sigh. “Your proposal is nice but we will have to reject it. We have already gotten ourselves a better deal so we advise you to forget about it” Luke scoffs. Were they playing a prank on him? It had to be a joke. “What do you mean a better deal? We talked over the phone. You said you enjoyed hearing my proposal and now what? It's time to finalize it and you're rejecting it?” Luke couldn't believe what he was hearing. “What better deal are you talking about? Who could offer you much more than me? This is the best deal you could ever get!” The investors rise to their feet. “I believe we have delivered the message and made it crystal clear to you Mr. Hamilton. Do have a good day” Luke rises to his feet and let's out a nervous chuckle. “You know what. How much were you offered? I'll triple the deal!” The investors ignore him and walk away. Frustrated, Luke follows them closely behind them. “No! Please! I can make some adjustments to it. Please take some time to review it again!” They ignore him and walk out shutting the door. Luke slumps down on his office chair feeling defeated. “How could this be? Damn it!” He puts his head in his palms. “How did I lose such a huge opportunity? Luke places a phone call. “Hello, sir?” “Find out who the investors chose to work with. Right now!” Luke grits his teeth. Whoever it was that stole his investors will pay a heavy price. They dare to mess with him? “Today is the fucking worst” Within a few hours, Luke gets a call “So, did you find out which company it is?” He knew he had competitors but he was confident there were no match for him. Or he had underestimated them? “Yes sir. It was Hardin Richard from the Hills Company” Luke freezes. It was like an iced bucket of water had been thrown over him. No way he had clearly heard that right. Why would the investors favour someone like Hardin? He was only new to the business that it didn't make any sense at all and out of all other investors why these ones? “Hello, sir?” “Good job” Luke ends the call and throws his coffee mug to the floor causing it to shatter in pieces. How dare he? How dare an orphan like him dare to take what belonged to him?! "Fuck!" Was this all a plan to frustrate him? Was what Karina said about Hardin coming for them actually true? No. It couldn't be right? Luke suddenly places a call running a hand through his hair in frustration as he paced the room. “Hello. I need you to arrange them all. Don't worry about the money, I'll make sure you're paid handsomely. Don't fail me” Luke hangs up the phone and lets out a long sigh. He lets out a loud chuckle clapping his hands in disbelief. He slumps down on his seat with a frown evident on his face. “How dare he meddle with my business?” He clenched his fists till they turned red. “Hardin. I swear you'll pay for this!!”

Chapter 49: Dario's Triumph...Or So he thinks
Dario was sitting in his sleek office, sipping a glass of whiskey when his phone rang. The number was unfamiliar, but something told him to pick up.“Hello?” His voice was smooth, but the sharpness in his tone hinted at impatience. On the other end, a soft, professional voice replied, “Mr. Dario, I’m calling from St. Mark’s Hospital. I thought you’d like to know—Hardin is in a coma. He was poisoned, and his condition is critical.”The nurse’s words hit Dario like a bolt of lightning, but he quickly composed himself, letting a slow grin spread across his face.“Is that so?” he replied calmly, but inside, excitement bubbled up like lava. “Thank you for informing me. I’ll make sure to… send my condolences.”He hung up the phone, staring out of the large office window with a look of satisfaction. Hardin in a coma? Are you ready? We’re going to be late!”There was no response.Layla frowned, her heartbeat quickening with unease. Hardin was never the type to make people wait, especially not for something as important as his project launch. He should’ve been down by now, dressed to impress like always. After a few moments of silence, she called his name again, louder this time. “Hardin?”Still nothing.A sinking feeling settled in her stomach. Layla’s mind raced with possibilities, but she quickly brushed them aside. He was probably just preoccupied, working on last-minute pr
Chapter 47- A Dangerous Sip
The afternoon sun hung low in the sky, casting a warm, golden hue over the city as Hardin stood at the edge of the grand event hall, watching his crew make the final preparations for the launch. Everything was coming together—the grand stage had been set, the investors were already buzzing about the project, and Hardin was determined that tonight would be his night.Next to him stood Layla, her brow furrowed as she meticulously reviewed the checklist in her hands. She had been his right-hand throughout this entire process, ensuring every detail was in place. As his secretary, Layla had always kept her emotions in check, but today, even she seemed nervous.“Catering’s done, stage lights are set” Layla muttered as she scanned the list. “Security is doubled, and the guest list is confirmed. What’s left is just the final sound check. I think we’re ready.”Hardin nodded, but the tension in his gut hadn’t loosened. After the sabotage with the cables and discovering the mole in his team, h
Chapter 46 - The Invite
The dimly lit bar was quiet except for the low hum of jazz music playing in the background. Jane sat at a small table near the back, her fingers absentmindedly tracing the rim of her wine glass as she waited. The invitation card Hardin had sent her sat on the table in front of her, mocking her with its pristine white edges and elegant calligraphy. She had no intention of going, but it still irked her to receive it.A few minutes later, Dario strode in, his usual confident smirk in place. He spotted Jane instantly and made his way to her, sliding into the seat across from her with a grin. "I got your message. What’s so important that you couldn’t wait until tomorrow?"Jane, without saying a word, flicked the invitation card toward him. Dario raised an eyebrow as he picked it up, his eyes scanning the embossed text. He chuckled, tossing the card back onto the table."Ah, Hardin’s project launch. So, he sent you an invite. What’s the problem?"Jane let out an exasperated sigh and took a
Chapter 45 - Sabotage in Motion
Hardin stood at the head of the table, the tension in the room thick as he waited for everyone to settle in. Layla, Natalie, and Travis all sat around him, their expressions a mix of concern and focus. The events of the day weighed heavily on them, especially after the near-death experience with the chandelier and the sabotage that had already put the project launch at risk.Hardin begins. "I’ve gathered you all here because I believe we have a serious problem on our hands." His voice was steady, but there was a sharp edge to it. "This sabotage—it’s not random. I have reason to suspect that Dario and Karina are behind it.”Layla shifted in her seat, glancing around the room before speaking. "It makes sense. Dario’s been desperate to get ahead, and Karina has a grudge, especially after what happened to her brother. If anyone has a reason to sabotage the launch, it’s them."Natalie, who had been quietly listening, crossed her arms, her journalist instincts kicking in.Natalie nods.
