Damien walked through the stairs, moving upward until he reached his specific room door, room number 20.

The apartment was less expensive, and the cost of living there was unbearable, the stench smell from pipes and adding with stagnant water from the drainage made everything worse, which is part of the reason the rent was so much affordable.

And even with that, Damien still finds it difficult to pay off his rent, due to his low monthly income.

He gently pushed the door open then stepped inside. His room looked so messed up as usual; he doesn’t have time to keep it tidy due to the work loads he gets everyday from the company he works for.

Sometimes Damien comes home very late and stressed, barely has time to shower, and ends up sleeping with his clothes on.

Just after some minutes, Damien’s door began banging hard, he flinched from its impact. It was as if the person wanted to break through the door.

“Who could that be?”

Damien wondered, startled.

“Open this goddamn door before I break it open you piece of crab,” muna, Damien landlady voice rage out from the other side of the door.

Damien flinched, his heart almost falling off, he knew she was here for her rent.

He stood from his bed then went over to the door. Taking a deep breath into his lungs, Damien pushed his fingers towards the door handle. He barely had the door halfway open before it was shoved wide by Miss Muna, she stormed inside with two hefty men, intimidatingly strong.

“Damien, you know why I’m here,” Muna folded her hands around her chest as she glared furiously at him. “One thing is certain: You either pay off your debt or get your properties out of this apartment.”

Muna’s voice was harsh, sounding through gritted teeth, and she wasn’t joking about what she had said, she meant every single word.

Most times Muna would come around looking for Damien, but because of Damien’s work and how he comes home very late, she hardly meets him, and this lucky act of Damien had really gotten to her nerves. She wants to show him the piece of her anger. Which had made her swore that she wouldn’t take it easy with Damien, with the intention of seizing his properties.

Additionally, if Muna would go with the decision of breaking down the door long before now, probably when she always comes over and never meets Damien, it would be to her loss, and she wasn’t ready to risk that.

“Please, Miss Muna, I will pay you your money. Just don’t make these guys hurt me,” Damien pleaded.

Damien knew Muna won't hesitate to get him beaten if he doesn't cooperate.

The guys were so huge and scary, making his body already trembling. He felt like urinating on his body.

Muna grew up in a harsh environment, and she had experienced multiple mafia clashes, so she was used to the lifestyle and had adapted the personality. involving police in what she does would be a waste of time or rather it would just drag her down. She rather hired thugs to get her job done.

“You know I won’t hurt you, but I will definitely do, only if you fail to pay me my money right here and now,” Muna frowned, her glare darkened. “Don’t get me pissed, or else don’t blame me for what I will make these guys do to you.”

Damien nodded frantically, his hands trembling.

He pulled out his phone from his pocket; his trembling hands almost made the phone fall off. He wanted to send the money he was owing to Miss Muna’s account via transfer. But his mind was uncertain, he was still having doubts if the money in his account wasn't fake or real.

“What are you doing? Hope you ain’t calling the police, because you would end up being the one behind bars, and you well know I hate involving police in my private business. So if you are thinking of trying, you better cut it off.”

“No, I’m not calling the police,” Damien quickly responded, shaking his head dismissively.

“Please, call your account number, and I will send the money into it,” Damien demanded.

The last thing Miss Muna ever expected was Damien agreeing so fast to pay off the debt. It was as if it were her lucky day, because she wasn’t expecting the poor man to have the money anytime soon.

“Hope you are sending it in full, because I don’t accept half payment,” she warned.

“Yes, Miss Muna,” Damien nodded his head frantically.

Muna called her account number, and so the money was transferred to her.

As she received the alert, she froze, then gradually raised her head to Damien. Damien didn’t only pay off his debt but also paid additional rent for three years and added extra on top of the one he had sent just for apologizing for delaying the payment.

“How much did you send?” she asked in disbelief, squinting her brow as she glared at Damien.

“I sent thirty thousand for three years, added with the debt I’m owing, and also I sent another extra just to apologise for delaying you,” Damien replied.

It was hard for muna to process what was actually happening, she wasn’t expecting Damien to pay off three years straight. Where did he get such money from?

“Are you sure you haven’t made a mistake in the digit?”

She tried to confirm if Damien had sent the money out of fear. And besides, he's just a delivery guy, paid less than a hundred dollars as salary. Transferring thirty thousand to her account was absurd, so much unbelievable for muna to process.

“could he have stolen the money out of pressure just to pay off his debt,” Muna thought inwardly.

“I haven’t sent it out of mistake. I did this just to clear off my name from your debt list and get myself free from your embarrassment,” Damien gently said.

“Hehehe, that’s good of you. You've done a pretty nice job for thinking this smart. Well, farewell, and thanks for saving me the stress of making your life miserable with my debt on your head.”

Muna laughed, sarcastically.

She then walked out of the room. One of the men she came with touched Damien gently on the shoulders as he spoke with a smirk. “You are lucky today. I would have turned you into my punching bag.”

After Muna and her men left, Damien relaxed on his bed. Everything happened suddenly, from the accident, the system, his first task, and the money in his bank account.

He had never expected the transfer he did to Muna, his landlady, to be successful.

“--”

The night fell, and soon it was morning. Damien woke up from his bed, and when he looked up to the wall clock hanging on the wall, he flinched, then stood to go take a bath for his delivery job.
