Ryan's POV

The door closed behind the last Blackwood Corp executive, but I stayed in my chair. I knew what was coming. My dad never ignored it when someone made him look bad in public.

There was a short silence and then he spoke.

“Well, Ryan?”

His voice was calm but I knew he was angry.

“I just told the truth,” I said quietly, looking down. Suddenly The table looked more interesting than his face.

“Truth? Do you think that was the truth? You told everyone that our company was spying! Do you know how bad that looks?” He thundered.

I looked up and his face was red with anger.

“But it is true, isn't it? We sent that virus to Carter Enterprises. We tried to ruin Liam.”

He hit the table hard with a loud sound echoing in the room.

“That's not your business! Your job is to learn how to run this company! Not to throw around dangerous accusations!”

“That's the problem, Dad! I don't want this job! I don’t want to sit at a desk all day. I want to do something real. Something exciting.”

He looke

Ryan's POVThe recording! That was the first thing that came to my mind when I knew that there was someone in Melissa's house. It could be one of my father's men sent here to search and retrieve it!My father always had more than one plan and I knew very well that sending me to try and retrieve the copy from Melissa wasn't his only plan. But while I was here, there was just no way that person would leave with a recording. I carefully took out my gun from the glove compartment and carefully checked the magazine before stepping out of the car.I knew that whoever was in that house would see me approaching if I wasn't careful enough so I sneaked to the side of the house using the small shadows of the street lights and the trashcans for cover.I finally got to the house with my heart beating frantically and my palms sweaty. I stopped and listened but there was no sound coming from the house. I noticed a window on the second floor slightly open, it was locked! Good! Just the luck I need

  • CHAPTER 168

Ryan's POV“Do what's right..” I scoffed under my breath with my grip tightening around the steering wheel as I drove back to the city.I hated the way I was being ordered around like everyone's errand boy. I really hated that but I was just too deep into it now to call it quits. The darker and more sinister part of me considered the option to let the law have Liam and all who were with him but to do that, my father would walk free and if my father walked free, Melissa would definitely spill the beans on me and I'd have Father to deal with. But if I went with Melissa's idea, Liam's name would be cleared and he'd return to his life. Father would be locked up and Melissa… I didn't really know where Melissa would fit in all of this because I definitely wasn't going to have her again! Then there was the small matter of the maniac assassin whom I had poked in the eye. I knew Scratch was coming after me and it was only a matter of time before the maniac caught up to me! Everything had to b

  • CHAPTER 167

Liam's POVIt was with an anxious spirit that we all followed Sarah back into the room and straight to the corner where she had set up her workstation.I could tell that the others were also as agitated as I was and were all eager to know what was up with Sarah's excitement. I really hoped this wasn't bad news!Sarah finally pulled back her chair and sat down. She had been busy trying to extract data from the computers Melissa had damaged. The moment we cleaned the warehouse, she went to work and would only stop for the occasional sleep and eating.“So with the way I normally fortify my systems, extracting data from the damaged computers was really difficult..” She said as she typed on her computer.“But you did. Right?” I asked impatiently.“I never said it was impossible.” She shrugged. “It only took time. But I've done it.” She opened a folder and turned the laptop towards us. “I've successfully recovered all that we've gathered on Blackwood since day one!”“That's great news!” Loc

  • CHAPTER 166

Liam's POV“I know what I'm telling you!” Tobias snapped impatiently. “Blackwood was behind it!”Tobias was really serious but I on the other hand didn't really know what I wanted to believe. Here we were in the abandoned warehouse but sitting on the roof in the evening.Tobias had just finished telling me all about his investigations and how he believed that Blackwood was behind my father's disappearance too.I had never put much thought into my father's disappearance. He had disappeared before I was born and nothing was heard of him since that day. He was dead no doubt I really didn't know why Tobias was digging into this now.“I have people who are into the Blackwood network.” Tobias continued. “I had them discreetly investigating on the inside but Blackwood knew. Immediately he did, those people disappeared without a trace too and he was coming for me! I'm lucky, Charles got to me before they did.”“What's that?” I asked with my eyes fixed on the horizon where a car was approachin

  • CHAPTER 165

Ryan's POVI immediately turned around to see the secretary reaching out her hand to hit the button that would immediately transfer the call to the father's line.I reacted before thinking twice. It seemed as if my body had reacted on its own. One moment I was standing there and the next moment I dashed to her desk and disconnected the call before it could go through.“Mr…Mr Blackwood?” The secretary stared up at me in shock. “Don't do that!” I said. “Pardon?” The secretary asked.“I'll take that call,” I said. “My father is busy now. Transfer that call immediately to my office.”“But..”“No buts!” I snapped at the secretary. “Do it now!” The lady was startled but quickly nodded.“What's going on?” Melissa frowned.“Wait here,” I told her. “Something I need to take care of.”Without waiting for her to ask more questions, I darted into my office, my former office where I worked until my father cruelly pushed me out to ride a cubicle. It didn't take long before the intercom rang and

  • CHAPTER 164

Ryan's POV“Ryan. I didn't know you would be here this early.” Father spoke up and motioned to a chair. “Have a seat, will you? You came right in time.”The seat he pointed at was the one right next to Melissa! That snake! For a moment I remained at the door in paralysis with my eyes locked on Melissa's. She was really here! She was really sitting here at Blackwood Corp in my father's office!“Hello, Ryan,” Melissa called sweetly to me.I said nothing. If Melissa was here and was talking to Father, what would stop her from spilling the beans that I was working with Liam?!“Are you going to come in? Or are you going to stand there?” Father asked.I had no other alternatives now. I knew fully well that to turn back and leave the room would be to clearly declare that I was officially against my father which was something I didn't want him to realize.I slowly dragged myself into the room and dropped into the empty chair beside Melissa's.“I don't need to introduce you to Melissa here,” F
