Chapter six

Adrian arrives at his new company. The court session had left him pretty sullen but not because he missed his wife, no, he was pissed off at being caught in the web of her lies and deceit in the first place. As he arrived at the company, he met with his grandfather right at the entrance. The old man had on a white suit, matching white shoes, and a white hat. He looked pretty smart in the outfit. "It's so good to see you, Adrian, after so many years," he added. 

Adrian bowed to his grandfather and the 001 of the Gerald family. He hadn't seen him in such a long time too, after making that bet, he was almost sure that he wouldn't be coming back home. 

"It feels good to be back, I guess," he replied with a flat tone. He still felt odd about taking over that company after so many years.  

"Don't worry, I don't want to overwhelm you with all the work at the main company, I will allow you to handle the subsidiary until you're sure you can fully take over," Grandpa said.  

Adrian nodded, "That's a wonderful idea," he replied. At this time, a very beautiful young lady walked up to him and bowed respectfully. "Welcome young master," she said. 

Looking at her, Adrian raised her brows and then turned to his grandfather with a questioning look. "Who is she?" He asked. He wondered if his grandfather was trying to play some odd game. He wasn't ready to have any woman in his life just yet.  

"This is your new secretary, her name is Taraji," Grandpa replied. Adrian nodded with a slight smile on his face as he looked at the smartly dressed young lady. It was nice to be back in the corporate environment. "Could you show him to the office, Taraji?" Grandfather asked and the young lady nodded as she was about to lead him into the building. 

But Adrian stopped at the door and looked into the busy office complex. "I don't have to resume work today, must I, Grandpa?" He asked. His grandfather looked at him and shook his head, "No, you don't have to. Taraji has everything under control and will report back to you," he replied. 

"I will let her do the work. The subsidiary seems to be doing quite well already, I'll allow her to keep up with a good job and supervise from a distance," he replied.  

Smiling, Grandfather replied, "You want to stay behind the curtains? That's not a bad idea, I guess you need to know what's going on before you're out in the open," he nodded.  

Taraji nodded and promised to report all that was needed at the company to him daily. "I will give you an account of everything that you need to know, young master," she replied with a smile. But right there, Adrian saw a very familiar car pull into the parking lot of the company before he could leave.  

Grandfather saw the direction of his eye and asked him what the problem was. "Do you know him?" He asked. Adrian nodded slowly as he watched the front seat intently, waiting for who would step down from the vehicle. He could recall the car from the parking lot where his wife was messing around. Just as he thought, his wife's lover, Richmond stepped out of the car.  

"Who is that man?" He asked Traraji who was staring in the direction of the car. Taraji looked at Richmond's car and replied, "He is a potential investor, he has been trying to invest with the company for a very long time, although what I sense is a proposal for him to work with us," she and looking at him asked, "Do you wish to speak with him? What does he have to say?" She added. 

Adrian shook his head, he would let Taraji handle everything. He was just interested in knowing what would happen next. "No, I trust that you can handle the proposal with him. Find out everything about him and let me know of it," he instructed.  

Arriving at the Gerald mansions a few hours later, he got a very warm reception as all the staff bowed to him. "We're so happy to have you back, young master, home has not been the same with you," the head butler said. Adrian got to his room which had been renovated and all his furniture changed to something more trendy and white suiting. "One thing I've kissed about home was the luxury," he muttered to himself as he recalled the substandard life he lived just to win Regina over.  

That same evening, while he was in the study, Taraji soon arrived from work. She was holding a stack of files which she dropped on the table and began to briefly tell him about the day's work. Notifying him of all the partners who had heard of the sudden change of power and wanted to meet the new CEO.  

"You will have to tell them to make do with the secretary for now, until I am ready to let them know," he replied.  

Taraji nodded and then placed one more folder on the desk. "I also failed to mention, I had him pitch the proposal today, the investor you met on your visit," she explained.  

Adrian was so eager to hear it that he flipped open the file and then looked up at her, "Did you find out anything worth mentioning?" He asked. 

Nodding, Taraji replied that she had something to tell him. "I have found out that the gold supply that he is proposing to make to our company is not legal. He has Been stealing pure gold from a mining site and he is trying to get rich by finding the best prices on the black market. I guess he failed and that is why he's so desperate to get a deal with us," she replied, "Mr Richmond is also bankrupt and that is why he is struggling to marry Miss Regina and secure his life."
