Mr. Higgins stopped walking. He did not look at Marcus. He did not listen to Marcus's loud, angry orders.

Instead, the small manager walked right past Marcus. He stepped into the empty space in front of Alex.

Slowly, Mr. Higgins bowed. He bent deeply at the waist, showing deep, total, and absolute respect to the man in the black suit. It was the kind of bow a servant gives to an emperor.

"I am so incredibly sorry for the noise and the mess, Mr. Carter," Mr. Higgins whispered, keeping his head down. "We are completely ready to serve you. Whatever you need, sir."

Marcus's jaw dropped open. His eyes bugged out of his head. "Higgins! What are you doing? Are you crazy? Stand up! I told you to throw him out! I rented this room!"

Mr. Higgins finally stood up straight. He slowly turned his head to look at Marcus. The fear in the manager's eyes was completely gone when he looked at Marcus. Now, there was only cold pity.

"Mr. Vance," Mr. Higgins said clearly, making sure his voice carried across the silent ballroom. "You do not understand the situation. I cannot throw this man out."

"Why not?" Marcus screamed.

"Because, Mr. Vance, Mr. Carter now owns this hotel," Mr. Higgins explained softly.

The guests in the crowd gasped. The sound of sudden whispering filled the room. Lisa covered her mouth with both of her hands, her eyes wide with total shock.

Marcus blinked rapidly. "What? That... that is impossible. This hotel is worth ninety million dollars!"

"Mr. Carter owns the Grand Plaza Hotel," Mr. Higgins continued, his voice steady and firm. "He owns the ground it sits on. He owns the parking structures. He owns the holding company that employs your entire board of directors. And, as of five minutes ago, Mr. Carter owns the private bank that holds every single one of your real estate business loans."

The room spun around Marcus. He felt dizzy.

"That means," Mr. Higgins finished, pointing a finger toward the front doors, "that you do not have any power here, Mr. Vance. Your party is over. You are trespassing on Mr. Carter's private property."

Marcus shook his head violently from side to side. His brain refused to accept the truth. His huge ego was fighting for its life.

"Lies!" Marcus screamed, his voice echoing off the golden ceiling. "You are all lying! This is a trick! It is a bluff! You are nothing but a dead, weak loser, Alex!"

His anger completely took over his mind. He forgot about the billionaires watching. He forgot about the cameras outside. He only wanted to smash the calm, freezing face of the man who was ruining his perfect life.

Marcus raised his right hand high into the air. He curled his fingers into a tight, angry fist. He stepped forward, ready to punch Alex directly in the face.

"I will teach you a lesson, you fake!" Marcus roared.

His hand started to swing down fast.

But Marcus never even came close to touching Alex.

In the blink of an eye, a massive shadow stepped out from the line of guards. It was one of the elite, black-suited tactical men. The guard moved with terrifying, blinding speed, like a striking snake.

Before Marcus's fist could fall, the giant guard grabbed Marcus by the throat with one hand, and grabbed his swinging arm with the other.

With a sudden, brutal twist, the guard lifted Marcus completely off his feet.

BAM!

The guard slammed Marcus violently onto the hard marble floor.

Marcus screamed in bright, hot pain. His face hit the cold stone hard, right in a puddle of spilled champagne.

The heavy tactical guard pressed his thick knee deep into the middle of Marcus's back, pinning him to the ground completely.

Marcus tried to wiggle and fight, but he was trapped under a mountain of heavy muscle. He looked like a helpless bug squashed on the floor.

Alex did not flinch during the sudden violence. He did not step back. He slowly, calmly walked forward.

Marcus was wearing a custom, solid gold Rolex watch on his left wrist. The watch was covered in diamonds. It had cost Marcus eighty thousand dollars, bought with the money he stole from Alex's life insurance.

Alex stopped walking. He stood directly over Marcus.

Slowly, Alex lifted his expensive, black leather shoe. He placed his heavy heel directly onto the face of the gold Rolex watch.

Alex looked down at his former best friend. He looked down at the man who had left him to burn in the dark warehouse.

Alex pressed his weight down.

CRACK!

The thick glass of the Rolex shattered into a hundred tiny pieces. The expensive metal frame bent and crushed flat under Alex's heavy shoe.

Marcus groaned loudly in fear, pain, and total humiliation, his cheek pressed flat against the wet, dirty marble floor. The great, powerful billionaire was now lying in the dirt, exactly where he belonged.

Alex kept his foot on the broken watch. He looked around the silent, terrified room, and then down at the broken man on the floor.

"Evict him," Alex ordered softly.

High above the city, far away from the dust, dirt, and noise, sat the towering regional headquarters of Vanguard. It was the tallest skyscraper in the city, made entirely of sleek, dark black glass. On the very top floor, the main office was huge, cold, and ultra-modern. The walls were made of clear glass, showing the entire city spread out below like a tiny toy map. Alex Carter sat behind a massive, heavy desk made of dark, solid stone. He was wearing a fresh, crisp white shirt with the sleeves rolled up to his elbows. The rolled sleeves showed the thick, powerful muscles of his arms and the faint white scars from the fire. His face was perfectly calm. He looked like a quiet sea just before a deadly, violent storm. Across from him stood Helena Croft. She wore her perfect black suit and held her glowing electronic tablet. Behind her, a giant digital screen covered the entire wall of the office. The giant screen was filled with red lines, warning signals, and complicated financial c

The morning sun shined brightly through the tall, clear windows of the luxury penthouse. It was a beautiful day in the city, but inside the expensive room, the air was dark, heavy, and full of panic. Marcus Vance paced rapidly back and forth across the soft white rug. He was still wearing the same white dress shirt from the charity gala the night before. The shirt was wrinkled and stained with dried yellow champagne. His expensive hair was messy and wild. He held his thin silver cell phone tightly against his ear. His face was bright red with anger, and he was screaming loudly into the phone. "What do you mean my credit lines are frozen?" Marcus yelled. His voice echoed off the high ceiling. "I am Marcus Vance! I have five hundred million dollars in assets! I am building the biggest real estate project in the downtown area! You cannot just block my credit cards!"Lisa sat completely still on a soft gray sofa in the corner of the large room. She held a cup of hot black coffee in her

The ballroom was completely silent. Nobody moved. Nobody breathed. The only sound in the huge, beautiful room was the soft dripping of the spilled champagne. The yellow liquid dripped from Lisa’s high heels and tapped quietly against the broken crystal glass on the cold marble floor. The silence was heavy. It felt agonizing. Every single important guest in the room was staring at the man in the dark Tom Ford suit. The Mayor, the Police Chief, the rich bankers, and the famous actors were all completely frozen. They did not know who this man was, but they could feel the heavy, terrifying power coming from him. He stood in the center of the room like a god among insects. Lisa stood frozen in her place. Her mind was spinning in dark, terrifying circles. She looked closely at the man. He had the same broad shoulders. He had the same dark hair. But his face was sharper, harder. His body was much thicker and stronger than before. And his eyes—his eyes were completely different. They were

Marcus spilled his drink on his shoes. "What in the world is going on?" he shouted angrily. The guests gasped and backed away in fear. Marching through the wide double doors was not the normal hotel security team. It was a private army. Twenty men dressed in pure black tactical suits marched into the room. They moved together with terrifying, perfect military speed. They wore black earpieces and cold, serious expressions. They did not look like security guards; they looked like highly trained killers. They quickly spread out, surrounding the exits. They did not say a word to the rich guests. They simply took control of the room in less than ten seconds. Marcus's face turned red with anger. He felt foolish in front of the Mayor. He stomped forward, waving his arms. "Hey! Who do you think you are?" Marcus yelled at the silent guards. "I rented this entire floor! I am Marcus Vance! Where is the hotel manager? Get him out here right now!"A small, older man in a gray suit came runni

Flash! Flash! Flash!Bright white lights exploded in the dark night. Dozens of cameras clicked rapidly, making a loud, buzzing noise like a swarm of angry bees. Reporters shouted over the red velvet ropes, begging for attention.“Lisa! Over here, Lisa!”“Mr. Vance, look this way!” “Lisa, who made that beautiful dress?”Lisa Vance smiled. It was a perfect, practiced smile. She stopped walking on the long red carpet and turned her body so the cameras could get a better angle. She loved the bright lights. She loved the attention. For the first time in her life, she felt like she truly belonged. She felt like she had finally made it. Around her neck rested a massive, glittering diamond necklace. The heavy jewels caught the light of the camera flashes and sparkled like stars. Marcus had bought it for her just two days ago. It cost over two hundred thousand dollars. Every time she felt the cold, heavy stones against her skin, she felt powerful. She remembered her old life with Alex. She
