The Rise of a Billionaire

CHAPTER 2

"Please help him! He fell into the river," Kayla, the lady whom Peter had saved, called the authorities over to save Peter. 

After he fell into the river with that drunk fellow, the others ran away in fear, leaving Kayla alone.

Scared, she immediately took out her phone to contact help. She couldn't allow her savior to drown after risking his life to save her from the drunk men. 

The authorities had arrived with divers, who went into the river to find Peter and the fellow he took along.

In twenty minutes, the drunk man who fell into the river was found by one of the divers. He was pulled out and placed in an ambulance.

Kayla was on the bridge watching when they pulled the latter out. She thought it was Peter, but frowned when she saw it was the drunkard instead. 

She didn't let him go free after what he did.

"You don't have to worry Miss Kayla. We'll straighten him once he's awake," An inspector said to Kayla, as they both watched the man being placed in the ambulance.

A worried Kayla looked at the river, thinking about Peter.

"It's best you head home now, Miss. It's getting late already."

"No, I'll stay. I'll wait until he's found," She decided, refusing to leave the scene until Peter was found.

"I can't leave."

As the midnight drew nearer and darker, Kayla felt her eyes going heavy by the minute.

Where she sat, she carefully got to her feet with a blanket around her, making her way to the other side, away from the authorities.

Her eyes were on the river as she watched the divers take turns diving into the river, just to find Peter.

This made Kayla feel guilty.

"If only I had taken the other way and brought my car, all these wouldn't be happening. If that man dies, I won't forgive myself," She panicked, getting worried about Peter.

Just as she drew closer to the bushes, Kayla heard a suspicious sound coming from behind the grass.

She felt her heart skip in fear of it being a creature set to attack her. But the groans she heard, sounded more like human.

Curious, Kayla moved into the bishes and was stunned at who she found lying there.

"HE'S HERE!" She yelled out to the authorities, gaining their attention.

Quickly, they all ran over to Kayla's point and found Peter, lying in the bush all wet, injured, and unconscious.

It turns out that Peter had crawled out from the river an hour again, injured from the impact of the fall. He lay there in the bushes, unable to gain his strength, but passed out.

"Quickly, get a stretcher! " The inspector ordered the paramedic. 

A worried Kayla moves closer to Peter to check on him. She held him close, feeling his heartbeat. 

"He's alive," She said, sounding relieved.

Peter is taken by the paramedic into the ambulance and rushed to the same hospital, where his mother is being treated, and hospitalized at once.

A doctor that recognizes Peter, attends to the unconscious man, who has passed out due to the stress and injuries sustained.

They had to work on him.

A few weeks later, Peter finally wakes up from his deep sleep. He opens his eyes to find Kayla beside him.

She has been visiting Peter since the day he was admitted.

When she saw Peter was awake, she rushed to get the doctor for him.

The doctor shows up and checks Peter, confirming that he's better.

Kayla smiles when she hears this, holding Peter's hand in delight.

Peter looks at Kayla and wonders who she is. But he soon remembers her face.

"It's you. The lady from the bridge," He pointed out.

Kayla smiled at Peter and said, "Yeah, it's me. I'm sorry for what happened. I didn't mean for any of this."

"It's fine, " Peter said, smiling at Kayla. 

A pleased Kayla introduces herself to Peter, which he did vice versa.

Seeing he was in the hospital, Peter asked the doctor about his mother. 

"How's she doing?" He questioned.

Peter noticed how the doctor's mood changed suddenly. He no longer had his smiles, but sadness instead.

With sadness, he broke the news to Peter. "I'm sorry, but your mother is dead."

"What? That's... That's a lie, " Peter said, feeling his body shaking.

Kayla is astonished. She didn't know Peter had someone in the hospital, and the news has shattered him more.

"But you said she was recovering? How come?"

"This is something the cops are still investing in?"

"The cops?" This confused Peter.

The doctor shares with Peter what had happened to his mother.

She didn't do natural details, but she was attacked by three men caught on the Surveillance footage they watched.

They didn't see their faces but saw them leaving the room.

"The cops are doing their best to find them. So, please, we are sorry for your loss," The doctor apologized, sympathizing on behalf of the hospital.

Hearing what the doctor said, Peter had only one person or family in mind.

Mia's family. 

He was sure for a fact that they were behind his mother's death, and they did this to ruin his life the more.

Peter could only get mad about the tragic news with tears, but he didn't have the power to do anything to save his mother.

She's gone.

"I'm sorry," Kayla apologized with sadness, wrapping her arms around a hurt Peter.

He could feel everything shattering before his eyes.

Still mourning his mother's death, with Kayla trying to comfort him, a nurse came in with a letter, which was left for him here at the hospital.

"A man said it's for you," The nurse said, giving Peter.

Kayla took it and handed it to Peter. He opened the letter and he's left flabbergasted by what it contained.

"I hope this letter finds you, Peter. You have a mysterious vast of fortune hidden somewhere in this city. If you want to know more about this and your identity, come over to this ad

dress. I will tell you," Peter read the letter, staring in bewilderment.

"Vast of Fortune meant for me?" He gazed on in confusion.
