"If I’ve said I’ll teach you, then of course it exists," Joseph replied with a reassuring smile.

"Professor Wilson, come with me. I’ll show you my silver needle collection," Philip Anderson said, pulling Joseph by the arm as they left the apothecary. It turned out that the silver needles were not stored in the same room but in a separate, more secure location.

Seeing this, Richard Anderson followed after them, but Lindsay had already finished wrapping the herbs and exited the apothecary with Tristan Flores.

Under Philip Anderson’s guidance, Joseph was led to the third floor. They stopped in front of a locked room, and Philip carefully retrieved a key to unlock the door.

"Lindsay, Old Flores, and Professor Wilson, come on in."

"Richard, you stay out!" Philip said abruptly, turning to his son.

"What? Dad, why? You never let me into this room. Now you’re letting everyone else in, but not me?"

Richard Anderson looked utterly bewildered.

"You’re not a doctor. What would you even do in here

“That’s just how ordinary people think. The ones who make it here accept that death could come at any moment.”“Even if they die, no one will ever know how it happened. It’s as if someone simply vanished from the face of the earth.”Brian Adams spoke with complete indifference.“I’ve passed your trial. Now you should be able to tell me everything, right?”Joseph drew a deep breath. He’d said “you all,” not “you.” With Neil Foster standing here, Joseph was now certain that Neil and Brian shared an unusual bond.“You brought me three golden seals that day. Do you still have them on you?”Brian Adams asked in a calm, even tone.“Of course.”Joseph replied as he took out the three golden seals.“Hand them to me.”Brian Adams said to Joseph.Hearing this, Joseph didn’t hesitate. He passed all three seals to Brian Adams.Brian weighed the seals in his palm, studying them in a thoughtful silence.“Dragon Seal, Tiger Seal, Golden Horse Seal—each belongs to a different person.”“The Dragon Sea

Once the two dozen black-clad fighters took their positions, they charged without hesitation. Joseph braced and met them head-on.With so many blades in play, blood was inevitable. Soon the saber in Joseph’s hand was slick with it.There was no alternative. They were too many. The only way through was to strip them of combat power, fast. All he could promise himself was not to take lives. Nothing more.By the twenty-minute mark, Joseph was bleeding too—surface wounds only, nothing that slowed him down.It took him more than half an hour to put the group down for good. His strength clearly exceeded their expectations. These weren’t street punks swinging pretty fists; they were trained killers, each capable of taking on ten. And yet, before Joseph, none of them gained an inch. Worse, he cut through and walked away intact. Shock gave way to resignation. With the twenty-plus fighters dealt with, Joseph moved on.In the forest, the checkpoints Brian Adams had set far exceeded anything Jose

The red dot centered over his heart made Joseph’s pulse jolt. He slipped aside on instinct.A dull report—bang—followed a beat later. He’d already moved. If he’d waited for the shot to react, he’d be a corpse. Bullets outrun sound—sniper rounds most of all.He rolled behind cover, breath harsh and fast. If not for the shadows masking him, if not for that fleeting glimpse of the laser sight, he would have died with a hole through his chest. They weren’t pulling punches. They wanted him dead. His jaw tightened. Heat surged in his veins—familiar, ravenous. A bloodthirst he hadn’t felt in a long time pressed against his ribs like something waking.Anyone who comes for my life should lose theirs. The thought struck like a spark—wild, reckless. He wanted to kill the sniper hidden in the trees. A whisper—dark and insistent—uncoiled in his mind, urging him to finish it.But reason tugged the other way. He hovered at the edge between impulse and restraint. That near-fatal shot had shaken somet

“He should be able to,” Brian Adams exhaled, though uncertainty colored his tone. “I only ordered the kid to leave the forest on a stretcher. I didn’t order anyone to kill him.”He turned to go, but Neil Foster caught his arm.“What did you say? ‘Should?’ Old Adams, what is that supposed to mean? Are you telling me you don’t even know whether he’ll make it out alive?“If something happens to him, how are you going to answer to the general who died?”Neil’s composure cracked; panic washed the color from his face.“If he can’t pass a trial like this, how could he ever amount to anything?” Adams said quietly.“He shouldn’t have held back just now. He should’ve killed you with a single punch,” Neil shot back, livid.“If he could have killed me, I wouldn’t have objected,” Adams replied, utterly unfazed.“You—” Neil flushed a furious red.Adams shook free of his grip and walked off. Neil hurried after him.Once Joseph entered the forest, he relied on his senses, moving deeper along a quiet

Yes—what blazed in his eyes was fervor. An ordinary person, even a professional fighter, wouldn’t react like that. In a moment like this, the natural response should be caution, even fear. Yet after being knocked down, something inside the student seemed to ignite. His gaze turned fearless, almost homicidally bold. While Joseph was still exchanging blows with the other two, he noticed it as well. The student pushed himself to his feet, clearly intent on rejoining the fight.“Hold it. You’ve been taken down. Your chance is gone,” Brian Adams called out, stopping him.“Coach, I… I want another go. He’s… strong,” the student said, glancing at Adams with a hint of pleading.“I said your chance is gone. In a real fight, you’d already be dead. Fall back into formation,” Adams snapped, displeasure flickering across his face.“Yes, sir.” The student swallowed it down and returned to the line.In the same breath, another of the pair still grappling with Joseph went down hard, and he wasn’t get

“On what basis?” Neil Foster froze, then shot back the question.“Their footwork is rooted, their eyes like blades. You can see the explosive power in their bodies at a glance. They’ve all undergone specialized training,” Joseph said, watching the group from a distance, his tone layered with meaning.“You’re not wrong, Mr. Wilson. But these students are Head Coach Adams’s prized protégés. Isn’t specialized training exactly what you’d expect?” Neil followed Joseph’s lead, playing along. But Joseph heard the dodge in his voice. If this were ordinary instruction, how had they been honed into this—so lethal that the killing intent radiated off them even from afar? That aura doesn’t come from drills alone.“Fair enough,” Joseph nodded. Since Neil intended to conceal the truth, there was little point in pressing.“Let’s head over, Mr. Wilson,” Neil suggested.“All right,” Joseph replied, and followed him toward Brian Adams.“Head Coach Adams,” Neil called as they approached.“You came after
