THIRD PERSON’S POV

“Don’t touch her!”

Jake’s voice exploded through the hallway so loudly that everyone froze for a second.

The security guards stopped beside the hospital bed while the unconscious woman remained connected to the machines beside her.

Jake stormed forward with an angry expression.

The supervisor turned toward him with irritation.

“Oh, great,” the man sneered. “The broke son is back.”

Jake ignored the insult completely. His eyes immediately went to his mother lying pale and motionless on the bed. Tubes ran from her arms while bruises covered parts of her face and neck.

Seeing strangers standing around her like she was some unwanted burden made him angry.

“She’s staying exactly where she is,” Jake said through clenched teeth. “Nobody is touching her.”

The supervisor crossed his arms and laughed.

He was a thick man in his late forties. He had cruel eyes.

Everything about him screamed arrogance. Even the nurses nearby looked uncomfortable standing around him.

“And how exactly do you plan to stop us?” the supervisor asked coldly. “By crying again? By begging?”

A few of the guards chuckled.

Jake’s fists tightened at his sides.

“I have the money,” he said firmly.

The entire hallway went quiet for half a second. Then a lot of them laughed.

It wasn’t small laughter either. The supervisor burst into loud mocking laughter while even two of the security guards grinned. One nurse looked away awkwardly while another doctor nearby sighed tiredly.

The supervisor wiped at the corner of his eye dramatically.

“You?” he laughed. “You have the money?”

Jake didn’t answer immediately. His face remained deadly serious.

That only made the supervisor laugh harder.

“This is getting embarrassing,” the man sneered. “An hour ago you couldn’t even afford basic treatment. Now suddenly you can pay for advanced surgery and life support?” He shook his head mockingly. “Do you think we’re stupid?”

Jake took another step forward. “I said I can pay.”

The supervisor smirked “Then pay.”

Jake stared directly into his eyes.

“What happens if I do?” he asked quietly.

The supervisor rolled his eyes.

Jake’s voice became colder. “No. Answer the question. What happens if I actually can pay every single bill?”

The supervisor scoffed loudly.

“You want terms now?” he mocked. “Fine. If you somehow magically pay this hospital bill, I’ll resign from my position immediately.” He spread his arms dramatically “Hell, I’ll even kneel down and apologize to your mother myself.”

A few security guards laughed again.

The doctor who had been slapped earlier remained silent, though Jake noticed the man watching him carefully now. Unlike the others, the doctor’s expression wasn’t mocking. It was…curious.

Jake slowly reached into his pocket. The supervisor smirked confidently, clearly expecting nothing. Then Jake pulled out the black gold card.

Everything changed instantly.

The laughter stopped completely. Even the security guards stared.

The black surface of the card sparkled under the hospital lights. It looked expensive, and powerful in a way that immediately commanded attention.

The doctor’s eyes widened first. One of the nurses gasped softly. The supervisor himself froze. For one second, the supervisor looked panicked.

The supervisor recovered quickly and forced out another laugh, though this one sounded noticeably less confident.

“Oh please,” he scoffed loudly. “What kind of ridiculous joke is this?”

Jake said nothing.

The supervisor pointed directly at the card.

“You expect us to believe that a man who was begging for money earlier suddenly owns a black gold card? Do you know how expensive those things are?”

Jake’s expression remained hard.

“It’s real,” he said flatly.

“Real?” the supervisor repeated mockingly. “Of course, it’s real. And I’m the president.”

A few nervous chuckles came from the guards again, though the laughter sounded weaker this time. The atmosphere had changed. Jake could feel it. Even people who doubted him were no longer completely certain.

The doctor stepped forward carefully.

“Maybe we should verify the card before making assumptions,” he suggested quietly.

The supervisor glared at him.

“You stay out of this,” he snapped.

Jake moved toward the payment desk near the room entrance.

“Run the card,” he ordered coldly.

The nurse behind the desk hesitated nervously. She looked between Jake and the supervisor, clearly unsure what to do.

“Do it,” Jake repeated.

Before she could move, the supervisor suddenly stormed forward.

“You think you can fool everyone with some fake prop?” he screamed angrily.

He slapped the card straight out of Jake’s hand. The black gold card hit the floor and slid several feet across the hallway tiles.

Everything went silent again.

Jake slowly looked down at the card lying on the floor. In that moment, something inside him snapped.

The last twenty-four hours crashed together inside his head all at once - the car accident, his mother bleeding beside him, Emily laughing while his mother almost died trapped in that car, the humiliation at the party, kneeling in front of strangers, the divorce papers.

And now this man was trying to throw his unconscious mother out like garbage.

Jake lifted his eyes slowly toward the supervisor. The fury in them made the man take half a step backward without realizing it.

“You piece of shit,” Jake said quietly.

The supervisor sneered again, though there was uncertainty in his eyes.

“Oh, now you’re angry?” he mocked. “What are you going to do about it?”

Jake moved before anyone could react. His fist slammed directly into the supervisor’s face. He punched the man…hard.

The man stumbled backward in complete shock.

Everyone in the hallway gasped. Jake didn’t stop.

Months of buried frustration and humiliation came out of him. He grabbed the supervisor by the collar and punched him again, then again. The man crashed against the wall while nurses screamed nearby.

“You wanted to throw my mother out?!” Jake roared.

Jake punched him again.

“You slapped a doctor trying to save her life?!” Jake shrieked.

The supervisor cried out in pain as blood burst from his nose.

“Jake!” the doctor shouted in alarm.

But Jake barely heard him.

The supervisor tried to fight back, but Jake’s rage was too much. He shoved the man hard into a medical cart, sending equipment crashing to the floor. Metal trays scattered everywhere while several nurses moved backward in fear.

The supervisor finally managed to shove Jake away.

“You’re dead!” he screamed furiously, holding his bleeding nose. “You’re completely finished!”

Jake lunged at him again. The supervisor stumbled backward and pointed wildly toward the guards.

“What are you idiots waiting for?!” he shouted. “Teach this bastard a lesson!”

The security guards immediately rushed forward.

One grabbed Jake’s arm from behind while another moved toward his chest. Jake struggled violently. There was adrenaline moving through his body.

He managed to elbow one guard hard enough to make the man grunt in pain, but another grabbed him from the side.

“Stop!” one nurse cried.

“Call security backup!”

“Someone get the police!”

Jake fought hard. His mother was still lying helplessly inside that room while these people treated her life like a financial inconvenience.

“Let me go!” he roared.

One guard punched Jake hard in the ribs. Jake winced in pain. He staggered but still kept fighting.

The supervisor wiped blood from his mouth while glaring at him.

“You stupid trash,” the man snarled. “Do you have any idea what you’ve done?”

Jake glared back.

“Yes,” he spat. “I hit the wrong number of times. I should’ve hit you more.”

The supervisor’s face twisted with rage.

“Break his arms,” he ordered.

The guards tightened their grip.

One of the nurses gasped in horror. Even the doctor looked shocked by the order.

“This is insane,” the doctor snapped angrily. “He’s a patient’s family member, not a criminal!”

“He assaulted hospital staff!” the supervisor barked back.

“You assaulted me first,” the doctor shot back coldly.

The supervisor ignored him completely.

Jake struggled harder as the guards tried forcing him toward the wall. His cuts reopened during the struggle, staining one guard’s sleeve with blood.

“STOP RIGHT THERE!” a voice shouted.

Everyone froze. Even the guards stopped moving.

The command carried so much authority that the entire corridor fell silent instantly.

Jake turned his head toward the entrance.

At the front was a tall young man wearing a dark coat over an expensive dark suit. He looked to be around Jake’s age, maybe slightly older, but everything about him radiated wealth. His expression was filled with anger while several bodyguards stood behind him.

The moment the hospital staff saw him, everyone was shocked.

The supervisor’s face changed immediately. One of the nurses covered her mouth.

Even the guards released Jake slightly in confusion.

“No way…” somebody whispered nearby.

Another nurse stared wide-eyed toward the entrance.

“Isn’t that…?”

The doctor’s eyes widened suddenly with recognition.

“Oh my God,” one of the reception workers breathed. “That’s Ethan Vale.”

“The Ethan Vale?”

“The heir to Vale Pharmaceuticals?”

“What’s he doing here?”

Emily decided to take matters into her own hands. She had to take charge of the situation, if only to find out what the hell was going on.She arrived at the hospital shortly after noon, but unlike the last time she had come, she did not arrive in a chauffeur-driven luxury car or wearing the polished business clothes that usually made people turn their heads. She had chosen a simple cream sweater, dark trousers, and a pair of flat shoes, hoping that dressing down would make her presence feel less intimidating. Her hair was tied loosely behind her head, and she wore almost no jewelry. Even her usual confident expression was missing, replaced by a nervousness she could not completely hide. She remained inside her car for several minutes after the driver stopped at the entrance. The hospital building stood in front of her, exactly as she remembered it, but walking inside this time felt strangely difficult.
