“Why is no one home? What happened here?”

Julian stood in the center of the ruined living room, his hands clenched so tightly as he scanned the place.

He had returned to Sunspire City today to surprise his mother, Lucia, and his younger sister, Aurora.

Eleven long years of blood, dust, and war had passed since he left at nineteen.

He had left behind a broken family after his father, Nicholas, was murdered by the corrupt politician Chadwick Lincoln.

Julian had retired as the supreme commander. He dismissed his guard at the border so he could walk up the driveway as a simple son coming home. But instead of warm hugs and the smell of home-cooked food, he had stepped into a nightmare.

The wooden front door had been kicked off its hinges. The sofa was slashed open, and family portraits lay smashed on the floorboards.

A phone vibrated from the sofa cushions. Aurora's phone.

Julian dropped to one knee and shoved the heavy velvet cushion aside.

Half-buried in broken glass lay a small smartphone with a cracked screen, which was displaying an unlisted number while playing Aurora's favorite pop song.

Julian picked up the phone. He didn't speak immediately. He swiped the screen and brought the speaker to his ear, his breathing slow, steady, and deadly quiet.

"Well, well, well," a coarse, raspy voice sneered over the receiver.

“Look who finally decided to pick up. You must be the long-lost big brother, Julian. We were beginning to think you'd run away like a coward when you saw the mess we left in your cozy little cottage."

Julian’s eyes narrowed into slits of dark ice. "Where are they?" he asked. His tone was completely flat, stripped of all human warmth, like a steel blade sliding out of a leather sheath.

The man on the line burst into a loud laugh. "Listen to him trying to sound tough. Hey boys, the big brother thinks he's a hard man."

A chorus of harsh, mocking laughter echoed over the speaker in the background. "You want to know where they are, boy? You're a little too late to protect anyone. You abandoned your family for eleven years while they rotted in poverty, and now you want to play the hero?"

"I asked you a question," Julian said, his voice dropping an octave, carrying a terrifying pressure. "Where are my mother and sister?"

"Your mother put up quite a fight, you know," the kidnapper mocked, his tone dripping with cruel pleasure.

"...broke one of my guy's fingers before we threw her into the back of a black SUV and hauled her away to a private location. But your sweet little sister Aurora?” He snickered. “She's right here sitting in front of me. Why don't you say hello to your big brother, little girl?"

A sharp, sickening smack rang through the speaker, immediately followed by a high-pitched scream that pierced straight into Julian’s heart.

"Julian! Julian, help me." Aurora’s panicked, weeping voice burst through the line. "Julian, they took Mom! They tied me down to a metal table! Please, Julian—!"

"Shut your mouth, bitch!" the thug barked over the line. A heavy boot thudded against flesh, and Aurora let out a sharp gasp before the muffled sound of thick duct tape was slapped violently across her mouth.

Her terrified, desperate groans echoed weakly through the speaker.

"She’s got a pretty little voice, doesn't she?" the kidnapper taunted, his words burning with venom.

"And more importantly, she’s got a healthy, beautiful heart. A perfect medical match. Do you have any idea how much a young girl's heart is worth on the underworld dark market?” The man laughed mockingly.

“A very powerful politician in Sunspire City needs it to save his dying daughter. He paid us two hundred thousand dollars to hunt your sister down, tie her up, and cut her heart right out of her chest while she's still breathing."

Julian stood up slowly. The air in the ruined cottage seemed to freeze instantly, the temperature dropping like a stone.

"If you lay another finger on her," Julian said, his voice low and vibrating with absolute fury, "there isn't a single corner of this earth where you will be safe from me."

The thug laughed hysterically. "Oh, I'm terrified! The broke, useless son of Nicholas Bennett is making threats. You think you're scary, boy? Your father died begging on his knees, your mother is locked in a cage, and your sister is about to be slaughtered on a butcher’s block. You're nothing."

The man paused, stepping closer to his microphone so his heavy breathing filled the line. "Our boss wanted us to leave her cold, empty body in your living room as a homecoming present. But since you're so eager to hear her suffer, why don't you come watch the show in person?” A deadly silence fell over the line. The man chuckled and continued.

“Pier 14 at the South Docks. Abandoned Cold Storage Facility Three. Come alone, Julian. If we see a single cop, or if you even think about calling for help, we'll slice her open before you reach the front gate. But let's be honest... even if you sprint, you'll never see her alive again."

The line disconnected with a sharp, static click.

Julian lowered the phone slowly. He didn't roar in anger. He didn't punch the walls or weep. Instead, a terrifying, absolute silence descended over him.

His dark eyes radiating an aura of death so intense.

He reached into his inner jacket pocket and pulled out a sleek, hardened black military satellite communicator—a device reserved exclusively for high-level tactical emergencies.

Julian flipped off the security latch and pressed his thumb against the encrypted biometric reader.

"Code Red," Julian commanded quietly into the receiver. "Lock down all public and private transit out of Sunspire City immediately. The War Lord is active."

"Acknowledged, Commander," a strong, disciplined military voice replied instantly over the secure line. "Units are standing by. Do you require immediate armored support?"

"Negative," Julian said coldly. "Keep my identity hidden from the local authorities and the public for now. I will handle this myself."

"Understood, Commander. Satellite tracking is locked onto your signal."

Julian cut the line and slid the device back into his pocket. He turned on his heel and strode out, leaving the broken front door swinging wide open behind him.

Twenty minutes later, heavy clouds rolled over the southern docks of Sunspire City. Rain pouring onto the rusted industrial warehouses below.

Lightning flashed across the sky.

Pier 14 was a desolate, forgotten graveyard of rusted shipping containers, rotting wooden pylons, and crumbling concrete structures.

In the center of the pier sat Cold Storage Facility Three—a massive, windowless building made of thick reinforced concrete, sealed at the front by rusted iron double doors.

Julian walked through the pouring rain, his heavy boots kicking up small splashes in the muddy puddles.

Rain soaked through his dark hair, water dripping off his jawline, but his stride was unhurried and steady.

Inside the facility, the air was dead cold.

In the middle of the concrete floor stood an iron operating table, surrounded by stainless steel trays filled with surgical knives, bone saws, and blood tubes.

Bound to the cold metal table by thick leather straps was twenty five-year-old Aurora.

Her face was bruised, her clothes torn, and tears carved clean lines through the dirt on her cheeks.

Standing beside Aurora was a man in a filthy rubber apron, testing the curved edge of a scalpel blade with his gloved thumb.

The table was also surrounded by eight heavily armed thugs who were laughing as they watched the young girl panic.

"Hold her down," the lead thug, Miller, barked, checking his watch. "The buyer's medical transport will be here in ten minutes. The doctor needs her heart removed and packed on ice before her body goes cold."

"Please, hurry up," the corrupt doctor complained, adjusting his surgical mask. "It's freezing in here, and I don't want the heart tissue damaged by the cold."

Before Miller could answer, a sound rocked the front of the facility.

BANG!

The giant, two-ton rusted iron double doors bowed violently inward, the heavy steel deadbolts snapping like dry toothpicks.

The eight thugs whipped their heads around, their weapons rising as they stared at the entrance in total shock.

BANG!

A second strike shattered the heavy iron hinges completely. The massive double doors tore free from the concrete frame and crashed onto the floor.

A broad, dark silhouette stepped into the warehouse.

Julian’s eyes burned with an unholy, lethal fire as they locked onto the men surrounding his sister.

On the operating table, Aurora gasped, her wide eyes unblinking in absolute disbelief as she saw her brother standing in the haze.

Miller spat on the floor and drew a heavy pistol from his belt, an arrogant smirk spreading across his scarred face.

"Well, look at that... the useless big brother actually showed up. Kill him, boys! Chop him into pieces and throw him to the sharks!"

Julian didn't pause. He stepped onto the shattered iron doors, his voice slicing through the freezing room like an executioner’s axe.

"Which one of you touched my sister?"
