Duke Jarred looked ready to pounce. The ground beneath his feet cracked as he gathered his strength, but just before he could move, the technique Syrax had mentioned finally took effect.

Quinn’s right eye, the purple one, began to throb. Brilliant light filled it, and then darkness poured from the eye as though it were a doorway leading somewhere completely separate from the world.

The darkness spread in an instant.

It covered the entire hall, swallowing every corner before settling over the ro

Syrax saw everything unfold. His expression tightened, and he immediately shouted through their connection, “…brat, stop!..”There were two reasons for his warning. The first was obvious. Every member of the Dragon Guard was powerful, and even with Quinn’s current speed, he could not match them. If they wanted to stop him, they could do it easily without seriously hurting him.So why were they allowing him to charge straight at them?Something was wrong. It almost felt like they were testing him.Syrax spread his wings and dug his claws into Quinn’s shoulder.“…Stop!..”Quinn’s grin disappeared. He immediately slowed down, dragging his feet against the floor to keep himself from crashing into the guards.“…what’s it, Syrax…”Syrax’s voice became serious.“…think, you arrogant brat. Why are they not stopping you? They’re obviously much stronger than you. They can stop you without disobeying their orders. What are they up to?..”Quinn blinked.“…fuck, why didn’t I think it through?..”“

The next few days passed in a blur.Quinn spent most of his time in his room, trying to learn everything he could from Syrax. Unfortunately, the little Dragon was just as lazy as he was stubborn. Rather than teach Quinn anything useful, Syrax would sleep and occasionally offer some vague advice such as, “…only your mind can show you the way…” or, “…meditation will do you lots of good.”What good meditation would do for him was never explained.Syrax simply went back to sleep, and even when Quinn managed to shake him awake, the Dragon would spend his time training instead of teaching. The only thing Syrax ever praised was Quinn’s control over energy. Even that praise came with an expression full of disdain.“…our control isn’t bad. But that’s it. You’ll need to work even harder if you want to use the Void. It demands precise control because once you lose control, you’re dead…”Quinn absorbed every piece of information with greedy eyes. He wanted more power, and every bit of knowledge h

Syrax scowled. He could not really make the expression, but somehow Quinn still got the feeling that the tiny Dragon was scowling at him. His purple eyes certainly made up for it as they fixed Quinn with an irritated glare.“…this is your mentality warping and twisting what it should be. For now, be satisfied that you can use it…”Quinn sighed. “Alright. Then how about we focus on some techniques for now? We should focus on what will give me more power. I think I’m going to be needing it soon.”Syrax shrugged.“…focus and will. That’s the biggest thing that needs to be known for understanding and using the Void magic. As you know, most of the magic of the Dragonkin depends on the Beast. Since they study different types of magic and are from different types of magic themselves…”“…even beasts of the same bloodline have different ways of using magic. You should note that, by the way. There’s incantations, hand gestures, use of objects like wand or wooden rod. Formations, runes and such.

Quinn soon realized that being an heir involved far more than simply giving orders. There were things an heir was expected to do, and perhaps more importantly, there were plenty of things he was expected not to do. There were rules, responsibilities, and countless details that came with his new position.Immediately after the Pathway Conclave ended and everyone was dismissed, Captain Yemi came to Quinn and took him to his new wing in the palace.Captain Yemi was the commander of the defensive squad, one of the many squads that made up the Dragon Guard responsible for protecting the Dragon Lord and the palace. The Dragon Guard had several squads beneath it, but the defensive squad was one of its core forces. They were directly responsible for keeping the Dragon Lord and his heir alive, or at least making sure neither of them died when a fight broke out. They were also the true elite of the Drakemont family, commonly known as the Dragon Knights. If the family were still at the height of

Syrax’s voice suddenly reached Quinn through their connection.“…brat, stop acting high and mighty and get away from that body. Move away from it now!”Quinn did not bother asking why. The moment he heard the warning, he leaped away from Craton’s corpse as though the body had suddenly become a venomous snake.Everyone stared at him strangely, and Quinn glanced at the tiny Void Dragon curled around his neck.“…what are you up to now…!!”Boom!A violent explosion erupted from the spot where Craton’s body had been. The corpse was instantly blown apart, reduced to a mist of blood as the ground beneath it collapsed into a smoking crater. Cracks spread across the stone floor in every direction while dust and broken pieces of stone shot into the air.The entire hall stared at the destruction with stunned expressions.“…okay, Syrax… what’s this?” Quinn asked through their connection.“What do you think, you brat?” Syrax replied, his voice overflowing with arrogance. “You think you are the bes

“You can do what you want,” Arthur said.Quinn gave a sharp, almost mocking smile.“…I can do what I want? What if I want your head, eh, dear father…”He turned toward the room, and his gaze settled on Craton. The man who had wanted him dead.To be honest, Quinn had never had any particular grudge against Craton before today. The moment Craton threatened his life, however, things had changed. And now that Craton wanted what Quinn possessed, leaving him alive would be a foolish mistake.“Craton. You said you want my life, yes? You can come and have it,” Quinn said, his voice cold and firm. The room stirred.Everyone turned toward Craton. The color drained from his face as he glanced toward Duke Jarred, but the Duke did not even acknowledge him.“I… that is… I didn’t mean…!”“Enough!”Quinn’s voice thundered through the hall.He began walking toward Craton, his pace steady.“Where’s your dignity as a Drakemont? Why are you stampeding? Stand by your word! You want my life? Then you can h
