The vault’s mechanisms groaned under the strain, ancient gears twisting for the first time in centuries. A breathless silence clung to the air as the last layer of the seal hissed open, revealing the obsidian box—the Codex itself.

Ethan took a cautious step forward.

Behind him, Zara’s fingers hovered near the trigger of her plasma repeater, her eyes scanning for traps. Silas stood motionless, his expression caught between awe and fear. The rest of the team held their breath.

The Codex wasn’t ornate. It was brutally simple: matte black, unmarked, and humming with low, unnatural energy.

“It’s… humming,” Zara whispered.

“Not just humming,” Silas murmured. “It’s alive. Sentient coding. A living algorithm.”

Ethan didn’t hesitate. He reached out and placed both palms on the surface of the box.

A pulse surged through him—violent, mind-rip

  • Chapter 315: The Vault Beneath All Things

The sound was faint at first—so subtle it could’ve been the last echo of a failing machine. But then it came again: three deliberate, hollow thuds from inside the floor. Measured. Rhythmic. Alive.Ethan and Maren froze. They stood in the scorched silence of the reactor chamber, both staring down at the vault door now pulsing with light beneath the catwalk. Faint lines—veins of luminescent sigils—began to trace across its surface, responding to the shutdown sequence Ethan had just triggered.“It’s not over,” Maren whispered, not as a question, but a realization.Ethan stepped to the edge of the catwalk, peering down. The vault was embedded in obsidian rock, wrapped in layers of old Dominion tech that predated even the First Codex War. Nothing about it had been on the schematics. Not even in the old archives. He crouched, touched the rail. Static crawled up his palm. The door below him breathed.

  • Chapter 314: The Shattered Clocktower

The winds that screamed through the broken glass of the old clocktower carried with them the scent of ash and ozone—remnants of the final charge that had leveled half the Dominion’s inner sanctum. Ethan Cross stood on the jagged ledge where time had once been measured. Now, the gears of the tower’s heart lay mangled at his feet, like the bodies they’d lost in the fight. He was alone—or so he thought—until a voice cracked through the silence behind him.“You shouldn’t have come back, Ethan.”It was Maren Vale.Ethan turned slowly. She was thinner than he remembered, her dark coat torn, her left sleeve slick with blood that wasn’t hers. Her pistol was lowered but not holstered—a sign of truce, not peace.“I didn’t come back,” Ethan replied. “I never left.”Their eyes met, full of ghosts. Then came the grinding whir of machinery below&m

  • Chapter 313 – Stories of the New Dawn

Ethan paused at the top of his story, watching the girl’s wide eyes glint in the morning light. Around them, the Ashen Gardens thrummed with new blossoms of crystal saplings, each one a testament to lives reclaimed and stories preserved. He drew a slow breath.“So there I was,” he continued, voice soft, “standing among the ruins of a world that tried to bind itself in silence. And I had a choice: let them rewrite everything we’ve carried, or burn it all down to start anew.”The girl wrapped her arms around his neck. “And you burned it down?”“No,” Ethan corrected, smiling. “I chose to carry us forward. Not the lies the Dominion wrote, but our own truths.”She considered this gravely. “Truths can hurt people.”Ethan nodded. “They can. But only lies kill hope.”She let go and ran to the nearest sapling, placing a small ribbon on its stem. “I&r

  • Chapter 312 – After the Echo’s End

The echo of the Core’s collapse still hummed in Ethan’s ears as he stepped from the vault’s threshold back into the Citadel’s bowels. Each footfall rattled the dust from vaulted ceilings once ablaze with arcane code. He could still taste the absence of light—the vacuum left by a thousand years of Dominion power now evaporated.Behind him, Reyna closed the hidden gate. She placed the final lock-piston into place, then turned to Caden and Rhea, who stood surveying the empty chamber where knowledge itself had died.“All gone,” Reyna whispered. “Or… beyond our reach.”Caden shook his head, voice hollow. “We erased the future.” His gaze found Ethan. “Are we sure… that was the right choice?”Ethan did not answer at once. He paused at a collapsed column, then knelt and pressed his hand against the scorched stone.“I don’t know,” he a

  • Chapter 311: The Threshold of Echoes

The underground wind tunnel groaned as if the mountain itself were taking a breath. Ethan stood at the edge of the threshold—the last physical boundary between the remnants of the Dominion’s known reality and the lost vault of the Parallax Core.A narrow platform stretched out above a pit of darkness. Below, streams of quantum dust shimmered with unnatural color, casting motes of violet and gold on the ceiling. There was no guardrail. No ropes. No forgiveness for a misstep.Ava was already across. She stood at the opposite terminal, fingers flying across a cracked console. “This bridge isn’t going to hold if we take too long,” she called, her voice echoing oddly. “And the platform’s integrity is being compromised by the Parallax field.”Ethan nodded and turned to the others. “One at a time. Fast. Don’t look down.”Caden smirked, but his confidence cracked the moment his boot stepped onto th

  • Chapter 310 – The Immutable Hourglass

The glass citadel quaked under the force of the detonations below, tremors rippling through its shimmering spires like a dying bell’s final chime. Ethan Cross stood at the edge of the mezzanine, eyes narrowed against the onslaught of rising heat and acrid smoke spiraling from the Atrium’s lower floors. The skyline beyond the fractured dome bled red with the aurora of the collapsing Null Grid.“Ethan—” Kaz’s voice crackled in his comms, urgent, almost panicked. “We’ve lost Sector Theta. The Dominion’s anchor is destabilizing the entire core.”“I know,” Ethan muttered. “We’re running out of time.”Behind him, Reyna secured the final detonation charges along the Obsidian Column—the temporal artifact that had anchored the Silent Dominion to the human timeline. Every moment it remained intact, the Dominion’s paradox held sway, rewriting causality in its own image.
