Epic 7

Lisa's words lingered in the air as Peter took a seat on the sofa, mulling over her accusations. "Does she actually look like me?" he whispered, his mind racing.

The room fell silent as Lisa stared at Peter, who seemed lost in thought. She became more confused as she realized he was no longer listening.

"Aren't you going to say anything?" she asked, her voice rising in frustration. "Isn't she your daughter?"

But Peter's attention remained elsewhere, his face a mask of confusion and concern.

While Peter and Lisa continued to stare into the distance, deep in thought, Nora knocked and then entered the room. Her presence immediately changed the atmosphere, causing Peter to stare at her as if he had seen a ghost. Lisa noticed and disrupted the silence with her harsh tone.

"Are you going to talk or not? Why are you in my room?" she demanded, her eyes blazing with anger.

Nora felt uncomfortable under Lisa's intense gaze. She apologized meekly, "Sorry, ma'am."

"I don't need your sorry," Lisa snapped

"Speak up, you slum!" Lisa barked after a while, her anger visible in her curled brows and trembling lashes.

Nora, startled, stuttered, "I'm sorry, ma'am. I just wanted to let Mr. Peter know that his outfit is ready. His previous one got ruined with coffee at the office." She regained her composure, trying to maintain a calm demeanour despite Lisa's hostility.

Peter stood up and approached Nora, intending to question her about her daughter, but he quickly realized that doing so would only worsen the already tense situation.

"Thank you, Nora," Peter said, patting her shoulder gently. "You've done well. You can go now." As Nora meekly left the room, he turned his attention back to Lisa.

"Can you imagine the nerve?" Lisa seethed, her eyes still fixed on the doorway. "Waltzing into the master bedroom without any fear! How dare she?"

Peter, seemingly uninterested in Lisa's complaints, said, "I have to get back to the office now. Please try to be nice to Nora and Jessy.

With a gentle peck on Lisa's cheek, Peter turned and left the room. Lisa, still frustrated, fumed inwardly, feeling that her fiancee wasn't taking her concerns seriously.

Meanwhile, Nora hurried downstairs, her heart still pounding from her encounter with Lisa. She tried her best to ignore Lisa's hostility and concentrate on her duties, but it was becoming increasingly difficult.

Back in the bedroom, Lisa was contemplating her next move. She couldn't shake the feeling that something was amiss with Peter and Nora.

From her bedroom window, Lisa watched as Peter's car pulled out of the driveway. As soon as he was gone, she picked up the intercom and called for Nora.

"Yes, ma'am?" Nora answered nervously, sensing Lisa's hostility.

"Come upstairs, I need to have a talk with you," Lisa commanded.

Nora hurried up the stairs, her heart racing as she prepared herself for whatever Lisa had in store.

Once she reached the bedroom, Lisa stood up and gave Nora a piercing stare. "Listen carefully," she began, her voice dripping with disdain. “I have my rules and regulations around the house and I would want you to keep them. Firstly for someone who is a maid, you aren't permitted to move into someone's house with a child, let alone one that is— anyway, never mind. I already forgave you on that because my fiancee asked me to”. She muttered while demanding a glass of water from Nora, as she gently brought that from the mini fridge in the room. Her words cut like a fire as she continued, her voice sharp and cold.

“Secondly, I don't want you to be taking any instructions or advice from my fiancee when I am around, I am your boss, that is why you were employed. Thirdly, when my fiancee is not around, I would like you to answer my calls when I call you, not after fifteen minutes or hours. Lastly, I don't like the way you are treating my fiancee, always try to remember that you are nothing but a maid, a helper, not the landlady, I can still do some things by myself, so learn to always seek permission”. She mumbled, and with a deep hiss, she took a sip from her water.

Nora's eyes widened slightly as she began to see the underlying jealousy in Lisa's tirade. Despite the maid's best attempts to remain neutral, it was becoming increasingly clear that Lisa viewed her as a threat to her relationship with Peter.

The air in the room became tense, with Lisa's eyes piercing into Nora like daggers. But Nora refused to be intimidated. "Yes, ma'am," she replied calmly, looking directly at Lisa. "I understand your rules and will do my best to follow them, any other thing ma'am?"

Having asked concerned, Lisa gazed at her with disgust before replying. “No other thing, you may go”. And just as Nora attempted to leave the room, Lisa immediately called back.

“I forgot to mention, Your child? Try to teach her some manners and make her understand her place in this house. I don't want to see her anywhere close to this building or flocking around my fiancee. I believe that is understood?”. Lisa muttered as Nora took a gentle bow.

“Well understood ma'am, but I would like you to understand that it isn't in my power to control or restrict her movement. She is still a child and I doubt if she will be able to keep up with that, besides, she already has a great bond with Mr Peter, which I doubt will be possible to separate them. But not to worry ma'am I'll try my best to make her avoid him”. Nora whispered calmly.

“Better, the last line was all I needed. Others weren't necessary, I already know your daughter is as dumb as you”. Lisa muttered rudely.

“I'll try my best ma'am, any other thing?”. Nora mumbled politely.

“What other thing do I need? Just leave my room already and go prepare dinner, I already left some cash in the dining, go use it and stuff up the kitchen”.
