The Sovereign Awakening
last update2026-07-13 19:24:08

The rock monster’s grey fist was inches from Chidi’s face. The wind from the attack pressed hard against his skin, and the ground beneath him cracked apart. He shut his eyes, waiting for the final blow.

A sharp electronic sound rang inside his head.

[Warning. User life signs dropping. Conditions met for forbidden awakening.]

[Sovereign System is activating. Booting core interface.]

[Changing user class. Scavenger class deleted. New Class: Overlord.]

Time stopped. The giant grey fist froze in mid-air, hovering just above Chidi's nose. The falling stones stopped mid-drop, floating in the grey air like flies caught in ice.

A bright, glowing blue screen filled Chidi's vision.

[Name: Chidi Vance]

[Class: Overlord (Rank: Sovereign)]

[Level: 1]

[Active Skill: Sovereign Gaze (Level 1) - Allows the user to see hidden stats, weaknesses, and the upgrade paths of all items.]

Chidi gasped, his breath coming in short bursts. The heavy leather straps of the backpack suddenly felt light. He scrambled out from under the bag and stood up on his shaking legs. The system screen moved with his eyes, flashing with lines of blue text.

He looked at the frozen Stone King. A small, glowing red dot appeared right on the side of the monster’s thick rocky neck.

[Target: Stone King (Boss)]

[Hidden Weakness: Structural flaw on the third spinal plate. One strike will cause total collapse.]

Chidi reached into his pocket and pulled out his iron trash-collecting knife. It was a dull, cheap tool meant for scraping monster teeth off stones. He looked down at the knife, and another screen popped up next to his hand.

[Item: Dull Scavenger Knife]

[Condition: Poor]

[Upgrade Path: Not enough materials. Current attack power is enough to trigger the target's hidden weakness.]

The world suddenly snapped back to normal speed. Sound rushed back into the room with a loud boom. The Stone King’s fist smashed into the empty ground where Chidi had been lying just a second ago, shattering the stone floor into dust.

The monster missed, its massive body leaning forward from the force of the swing. The movement exposed the side of its neck.

Chidi did not think. He jumped forward, planting his boots on the monster’s giant arm, and sprang toward its head. He raised the dull iron knife and drove it directly into the glowing red dot.

The blade sank into the stone like hot metal through butter.

The Stone King froze. The red light in its eyes blinked twice, then went completely dark. A second later, a loud cracking noise filled the room. The giant rock body split into millions of tiny pieces, exploding into a massive shower of glittering gold coins and glowing blue mana stones.

[Level Up!]

[Level Up!]

[Level Up!]

[You have cleared the Boss Room alone. Reward: 5,000 Gold Coins. 50 High-Grade Mana Stones.]

Chidi landed on his feet, breathing heavily. The floor around him was covered in treasure. He looked at his hands, which were covered in dust but completely unhurt. The pain in his chest from Amina’s betrayal was still there, burning like hot coal, but it was replaced by a strange new clarity. He was no longer the human trash can.

He quickly grabbed the gold and stones, shoving them into his backpack. The heavy bag felt as light as a feather now. He did not want to stay in this place. Tunde and Amina were outside, and if they found out he survived, they would try to steal his rewards or finish the job.

Chidi walked to the heavy iron exit doors. He placed his hands against the cold metal. His new eyes scanned the door.

[Object: Sealed Iron Door]

[Weakness: Left hinge is rusted. Apply 50 pounds of pressure to break the seal.]

Chidi pushed his shoulder against the left side of the door. With a loud snap, the heavy iron lock broke apart, and the door swung open.

He ran through the long stone maze, avoiding the main paths. He knew the dungeon layout better than anyone because he had scavenged here for years. Within ten minutes, he reached the hidden side exit of the portal, stepping out into a quiet, dark alley away from the main street where the media and the other hunters were waiting.

He pulled the hood of his old jacket over his face. He needed to be smart. He could not let the world know about the Sovereign System yet.

Chidi walked out of the alley and headed toward the low-income market district. His family needed money for rent, and he needed a weapon.

The market was crowded with poor street vendors selling junk items gathered from low-level dungeons. Chidi walked past the stalls, using his Sovereign Gaze on the items. Most of them were complete garbage, showing blue text like [Broken Sword: No upgrade value].

Then, he stopped in front of a small, dirty stall run by an old man with a limp. In the corner of the stall, sitting in a pile of rusted metal scrap, was a short, bent iron spear. It looked completely useless, covered in brown rust and dirt.

Chidi looked at it, and his system screen suddenly flashed a bright, blinding gold color.

[Item: Rusted Iron Spear]

[Hidden Truth: This is the legendary Dragon Spear, sealed by ancient magic.]

[Required to Unseal: 5 High-Grade Mana Stones, 1,000 Gold Coins.]

[Current Status: Ready for upgrade.]

Chidi’s breath hitched. He looked at the old vendor. "How much for the bent iron spear?"

The old man sighed, waving his hand. "Give me three gold coins, kid. It is just scrap metal."

Chidi handed over the coins, took the heavy rusted spear, and walked quickly into a dark, empty alleyway behind the market. He held the spear in both hands and called out in his mind, System, upgrade the weapon.

[Materials consumed: 1,000 Gold Coins, 5 High-Grade Mana Stones.]

[Initiating Sovereign Synthesis. Breaking the seal.]

A bright light flashed in the dark alley. The rust on the metal began to peel away like old skin, falling to the ground in flakes. The bent iron straightened out, turning into a beautiful, polished black shaft. The tip of the spear grew long and sharp, glowing with a faint silver edge that looked capable of cutting through solid steel.

[Upgrade Complete. You have obtained the Dragon Spear (Rank: Mythic).

Chidi stared at the magnificent weapon. He could sell this for millions of dollars, enough to buy a mansion in the rich sector of the city.

Before he could even touch the silver blade, a soft rustling sound came from the pile of trash next to his feet.

Chidi spun around, lowering the spear. A tiny, round, golden lizard crawled out from under a discarded cardboard box. It was no bigger than a teacup, with large, watery black eyes and a fat tail. It looked up at Chidi and let out a tiny, soft squeak.

Chidi raised his eyebrow, thinking it was just a common dungeon pest. He used his eyes to scan the small creature.

The blue screen flashed a deep, bloody crimson.

[Warning! Target Identified.]

[Name: Obi]

[Species: Baby Dragon King (Ancient Divine Bloodline)]

[Current Status: Starving. Latent Power: Locked. If you feed this creature, it will bind to your soul forever.]
