“Michael, I think it's time we tell ourselves the truth already. You know without a doubt that our marriage can no longer work anymore.”

Michael was stunned to the bone when he heard Sophia's words. He had no idea what she was saying, what does she mean about what he knew?

Before he could process the words, Sophia pushed a document gently with her fingers to Michael's side of the table.

“We are two worlds apart now. I am the President of Newfounding Powers and you are supposed to be a high class military personnel but you failed in the military academy, and now you are just a freeloader my grace. You sleep, you wake up and you go back to sleep again.

It's a man's responsibility to take care of his wife and I have been doing that for you for five years now.

A real man would've already called off this marriage, but I can see your selfishness has been driven into your core that you feel it's normal to be living off a woman!

How shameless!”

Michael was dumbfounded on his spot.

Five years ago Sophia Sawyer was a nobody, he attended the military academy just so he could help her become the person she was today, he did, and now he was being called the nobody.

Because of several protocols in the military he couldn't tell Sophia his rank and she immediately thought he failed the academy.

He had been helping her from the shadows all this while only for her to deem it all to herself.

“Is that what you think about me? That I am a freeloader of your grace, and all I do is wake up and sleep?”

Michael said with a seriously annoyed face. Sophia kept her face straight as she responded.

“I know you cook for me and you take care of me when I am sick, but those are jobs meant for other people in my life.

I am the President of a multi-dollars company that is about to be worth billions, people expect my husband to be a mountain tall man, and you are far away from being as tall as grass let alone a tree.

Even if I give you all the time in the world, there is no way an Oregon grass can be as tall as a tree, let alone grow as solid as a mountain.

I have tried enough by waiting this long, you are not cut out to be my husband anymore.”

Immediately Sophia finished. She opened the document and placed a pen in the middle of the opened document.

“I am not leaving you alone empty. I will compensate you with five million dollars, you can read it for yourself if you think I am lying.”

Sophia said as she dropped the pen at the middle of the document.

Michael could finally see that it was a divorce file and he looked at Sophia.

“So our marriage comes down to your business life, to what people think your husband should be like?

Is money and fame more important to you than who you love?”

Sophia's expression cracked a little bit and she responded to Michael without blinking.

“Iron sharpens iron, rocks sharpen rocks, and hands sharpen hands.

It's only if we are equal that we can both help each other and live for each other, but we have long been equal. I have done the best I can do already, you should accept this offer while it's still on the table.

I have connections to make this easy for me but I am doing it this way because of our long memories, don't make it hard for yourself, Michael. Just accept reality and move on.”

Sophia's face was deadpan, there was no single trail of emotions in it. Michael was silent for a while. It was as if he was listening to a stranger.

He only asked those questions because of the highschool memories he had with Sophia, all the promises they made to each other, but it seemed people do really change when power or money come into their possession.

Since he came back from the military a few weeks ago, he realized Sophia had changed drastically from when he left five years ago.

This was practically her true color all those while.

Michael picked the pen in the middle of the document and Sophia smiled.

“If the money is not enough, you can add to it, but nothing more than ten million dollars.

I know this is a tough one for you, you had just come back from the military academy a few weeks ago, but it's a decision I have to make immediately, otherwise I might not reach the threshold I have set for myself this month.

Meanwhile, there is a rumor of a war fast approaching on our tail. I need to secure my business with some of the high elites so nothing can happen to what I have struggled to build in case a war really happened.”

Michael watched Sophia blabbing about her company as she divorced the man she promised to love with her last breath.

The man she promised never to break his heart.

Michael signed the papers at that moment. The Sophia he knew was all gone. He was crazy to think she would still be the same girl from his high school days.

Immediately Michael signed the document he voiced out.

“I don't need your money, and there is no turning back on this. Let this be our end.”

Michael stood up and approached the exit at that moment. Sophia wondered why Michael said no turning back, why would she ever think of turning back to Michael.

She gave Michael the chance to level up to her standards and he failed, she doesn't feel any form of judgement in her heart.

Her mind was clear.

Michael was about to open the door to leave when Sophia voiced out. This time she looked Michael in the eyes.

Brother James started laughing. It was not a warm laugh. It was the kind of laugh that carried mockery in every note of it, sharp and dismissive, the laugh of a man who believed he still held something over the person standing in front of him."You don't actually know what you are getting yourself into," he said, shaking his head slowly as the laughter faded into a smirk. "It's not even featuring you. Just imagine. You are going to see the difference in power. You are going to see it clearly. You are going to find out that you are not worthy of anything here. That you are not capable of anything against what is waiting for you above. That is what you are going to see. And when it comes to brute strength, you are definitely—"Michael punched him in the chest. The movement was sudden and devastating, no warning, no wind up, no moment where Brother James could have seen it coming and braced himself. One second Michael was walking toward him, and the next his fist had driven straight into

  • Chapter 84

Michael said nothing. He did not stop walking. He did not even glance around at the bodies on the floor or the rivers of blood still spreading slowly across the concrete. His eyes were fixed forward, calm and steady, and his steps were slow and even as he moved closer to Brother James with the kind of unhurried patience that made the whole thing feel more threatening than if he had been running.Brother James watched him coming and kept talking."Well, I will not lie to you," he said, his voice carrying a grudging edge to it. "You have potential. Real potential. That much I cannot deny."He paused."But that potential is going to be of great waste to you. Because Mr. Giovanni will not allow this to slide. You cannot just walk in here, kill seventy of his workers, and expect the man to simply let it go. That is not how this works. That is not how he works."Michael kept walking.Brother James continued."I know why you are this confident. I know why you are walking toward me like that.

Without wasting another second, Matthew was gone.He turned and dashed toward the stairs, his feet hitting the floor fast and hard, moving with urgency, driven by both fear and the strange excitement of what lay ahead of him. His figure disappeared quickly, swallowed by the chaos of flashing red lights and the still-screaming alarm as he pushed toward the upper floors.Brother James watched him go.And for a brief moment, something in him settled slightly. He exhaled.Matthew was on his way.Mr. Giovanni would hear about this soon. And Brother James knew one thing about Mr. Giovanni with absolute certainty. The man did not let things slide. He never had. Whatever was happening on this floor, whatever embarrassment was unfolding down here, it would not go unanswered once the boss became aware of it. Mr. Giovanni would respond, and he would respond in a way that would remind everyone why his name carried the weight it did.So Brother James told himself he had nothing to worry about. Not

  • Chapter 82

At that moment, Brother James stood there watching, and what he saw made him slowly shake his head. Not in disbelief anymore, In shame.Michael was not even fighting them in the way a man fights when he is pushed hard and struggling to survive. He was moving through them the way a man moves through a crowd at a market, casually, almost effortlessly, sending bodies flying in every direction like they weighed nothing at all. He was kicking them into each other, using their own men as weapons against their own men, and the floor was filling up with groaning, broken bodies faster than anyone could count. It was embarrassing. It was deeply, painfully humiliating. An outsider was doing this to the bear organization.Brother James let the weight of that sit in his chest for a moment, and it burned worse than the pain still running through his body from the slap. Then he exhaled slowly and muttered to himself. What did I even expect? What exactly did I expect from a man who has already reache

Then the man moved. His arm snapped forward, and the knife flew out of his hand. The blade tore through the air with frightening speed, so fast and sharp that it seemed to drag the wind along with it. It came straight for Michael's head. The man was already smiling, to him, this was a perfect throw.A perfect hit, a clean finish. But just before the knife could reach him, Michael turned around and caught it.Just like that.He caught the knife with his bare hand. The attacker's smile died at once. His jaw dropped.“Huh?” he let out, his face twisting in shock. “How—”Before he could complete the word, the knife broke. It snapped inside Michael's hand as if it had been made of dry wood instead of metal. The sound of it was small, but in that moment, it felt louder than the blaring alarm. The man's jaw dropped even more, his eyes stretching wide in raw disbelief."What the hell is going on? Who is he?, how was he able to do that?"His mind could not catch up. It was still struggling to

  • Chapter 80

The moment Brother James gave the order, the men around Michael tightened their grip on their weapons. Some shifted their feet, Some lowered their shoulders. Some bent slightly, ready to rush him all at once just as they had been told. But before any of them could make the first move, Michael had already started walking toward them.He did not run, he did not hurry.he simply walked forward with a calm, steady step that made the whole scene feel even more disturbing. It was the kind of walk a man took when he was not entering danger, but moving toward something he had already decided to finish. The flashing red lights swept over his face, but they did nothing to change the cold stillness there. As Michael drew closer, something in him sharpened. It was not just the sight of the men, not just the knives in their hands. Not just the rage in their faces. It was the blood, he could sense it.Not on one man, not on two.On all of them.Every man standing in front of him carried it.It was
