Chapter 5

Micheal did not head to the hotel immediately.

His first stop was the hospital.

He went straight to the billing counter and settled the medical expenses for his sister. With the Twenty million dollars Aurelia he received from the system, he was able to clear everything without leaving any debt behind. After confirming that her treatment would continue without interruption, he left the hospital with a slightly lighter heart.

Only then did he make his way to the hotel.

According to the system, one of the rewards he had previously received included ownership of a property—King Hotel. The current manager would be able to recognize him.

Micheal sighed as he walked into the lobby of King Hotel. The place was luxurious, the kind of establishment that only the wealthy frequented. Soft lighting reflected off polished marble floors, and the quiet hum of expensive conversation filled the air.

He walked toward the reception desk with a calm expression.

“Excuse me,” he said, offering a polite smile to the young receptionist.

The woman looked up, and a faint blush appeared on her cheeks the moment their eyes met.

“How may I help you, sir?”

“I’d like to see the manager,” Micheal replied. “Please tell him Micheal Jordan is here.”

The receptionist hesitated for a moment. The request was unusual, but there was something about his presence that made it difficult to refuse outright.

“Please wait a moment,” she said, picking up the internal phone.

[Ding! Ten points received.]

[Ding! One hundred points received.]

A series of soft notifications rang inside Micheal’s mind. He checked his status briefly and noticed that his points had already risen. It seemed that even simple interactions that influenced a person’s emotions could generate rewards.

He was still observing the system panel when an unpleasant voice cut through the lobby.

“Hey, Micheal? What are you doing here?”

Micheal frowned and turned around.

Standing a short distance away was Elizabeth, his ex-wife. Beside her were two women he didn’t recognize and a man who looked rather ordinary.

One of the heavily made-up women giggled and pointed at him with open disdain.

“Elizabeth, is that your ex-husband?”

“He’s handsome, I’ll give him that,” one of the women said, her voice dripping with contempt. “But what’s the point of a good face when the rest of him is completely useless? Sooner or later he’ll end up living off some rich older woman who only keeps him around for appearances.”

Elizabeth lifted her chin, her expression cold and superior.

“Let me make this perfectly clear, Micheal. No amount of begging will change anything. I already told you we come from completely different worlds. Following me around like this is pointless. I have no interest in hearing whatever you came here to say.”

Micheal looked at her, then at the Mark standing beside her, his expression unreadable.

Elizabeth continued without waiting for a response.

“You couldn’t possibly compare to Mark. We’ve only been dating for a short while, but he’s already given me everything I ever wanted.” She raised the designer bag on her arm and held it out slightly. “This alone cost fifty thousand dollars. You never even managed to buy me something worth a thousand.”

“She’s right,” the woman with heavy makeup added, deliberately turning her own bag so Micheal could see it. “Mark is extremely generous. He bought matching ones for both of us.”

Micheal studied the group in silence for a moment, genuinely puzzled by their behavior.

“And what exactly am I supposed to do with that information?” he asked, his tone calm but edged with quiet irritation.

Elizabeth’s lips curled into a disdainful smile.

“I’m telling you this so you’ll finally understand your place. Mark has money, influence, and connections you could never dream of. It would be in your best interest to stop thinking about me and stop showing up wherever I go. I won’t tolerate it next time.”

“Even the manager of King Hotel treats him with respect whenever he comes here,” the heavily made-up woman added arrogantly. “He’s been given a ninety-five percent discount on everything. Do you really think someone like you belongs in the same conversation?”

Before Micheal could reply, a cold voice cut through the air.

“I’m curious,” the voice said. “Who exactly authorized a ninety-five percent discount?”

The group turned at once.

A man in his forties was approaching them. He was of average height, with faint lines around his eyes, yet the authority in his presence was unmistakable. The moment Mark saw him, he hurried forward with an eager smile.

“Manager Stephen !”

Manager Stephen did not even glance at him. He brushed past Mark without slowing down and stopped directly in front of Micheal, offering a respectful bow.

“Director.”

Micheal gave a small nod and gestured for him to rise.

“Manager Stephen .”

“I wasn’t informed you would be arriving so soon,” Manager Stephen said politely. “Please forgive the lack of proper preparation.”

“There’s nothing to forgive,” Micheal replied. “I only came to take a look around.”

Manager Stephen glanced briefly at the surrounding group before lowering his voice slightly.

“This area is a little crowded, Director. Would you prefer to continue in my office?”

Micheal shook his head.

“There’s no need. I don’t intend to interfere with the day-to-day operations. You’ve been managing the hotel well enough. Continue as you have been.”

“As you wish, Director.”

The lobby had fallen completely silent.

Elizabeth, Mark, and the two women stood frozen, staring at Micheal as if they could no longer recognize the man standing in front of them.

He still had far more important matters to deal with. There was no reason to waste time inspecting every detail of the hotel today. His only purpose in coming was to confirm ownership and make himself known to the manager.

Micheal offered a brief smile and turned to leave.

Manager Stephen quietly exhaled in relief as he watched him go. The hotel had been acquired without any prior warning, and as a mere manager he had not dared to question the sudden change. A photograph of the new owner had been sent to him in advance so he would be able to recognize the man on sight. At the time, he had assumed the new director would be another arrogant rich heir who would immediately demand a full review of the accounts and staff.

Instead, Micheal had been surprisingly straightforward. He had shown no interest in examining the books and had simply instructed him to continue as usual.

Outside the hotel, Micheal let out a quiet sigh as he stepped into the open air. He paid no attention to the stunned expressions still frozen on the faces of Elizabeth and the others behind him. Their presence alone was enough to sour his mood, and he had no desire to spare them another thought.

He had only taken a few steps when a sharp voice cut through the air.

“Hey! Where do you think you’re going?”

Elizabeth’s angry shout followed him out of the hotel.

She had never been spoken to this way in her entire career. The steady stream of remarks from the man in front of her had pushed past irritation into something sharper—humiliation that demanded an immediate answer.Michael watched the change in her eyes and spoke again, voice still mild. “If you redirected even half of this intensity somewhere more productive, we might both leave this room in a better mood. I trust you understand what I mean.”The last of her restraint vanished. She snatched the service pistol from the table and leveled it at his chest. “I’ll kill you.”Michael’s smile turned slightly strained. “I didn’t expect things to reach this point so quickly. There is still room to talk this through.”“I don’t care,” she snapped. “You die today.”He gave a small shrug, the cuffs limiting the motion. “You would be eliminating the only person currently willing to put up with you. That leaves a rather long and solitary future.”“Shut up!”Her finger tightened on the trigger—then s

Police officers stepped from the vehicles the moment the cars stopped and moved straight toward Michael. Elizabeth raised her voice at once, pointing directly at him. “Arrest him. He’s the one who did this to all of them.”The officer in charge was a young woman whose uniform did little to conceal a figure both precise and striking, her dark hair drawn into a tight, practical bun. She approached without hesitation and reached for Michael’s wrists. “You’re under arrest for assault.”Michael offered a faint, wry smile as the cuffs closed. “This was self-defense. They came at me first with clear intent to cripple.”She gave no sign of having heard him. With a short order to her team to gather the injured men and see them to a hospital, she guided Michael firmly toward one of the waiting cars and climbed in after him. His further attempts to explain were met with the same silence; she simply refused to engage. At the station she led him, still cuffed, into an interrogation room and secure

Michael turned around slowly to face Elizabeth, his voice steady as he asked, “And how is that any of your business?”Elizabeth’s expression twisted with anger. She pointed at him and spoke through gritted teeth. “Why didn’t you tell me before that you had money? All this time you hid it from me and let me suffer for years!”Michael narrowed his eyes at her. “And why should I have told someone who never showed a single bit of gratitude?”Her face flushed with rage, but before she could answer he continued in a calm, measured tone. “Tell me, when were you ever satisfied with anything I did for you? All you ever did was criticize me and compare me to your friends who had rich boyfriends. And now you expect me to have shared my wealth with you?” He gave a slight shake of his head. “You’re not worthy of it.”“Michael, I will never forgive you for this!” Elizabeth shouted. He raised an eyebrow. “Forgive me? Weren’t you the one who said we came from different worlds? It seems you were right

Micheal lowered his voice as he watched the doctor hurry out of the ward. “System, open the reward.” Almost immediately, a translucent interface appeared in front of him, and the familiar mechanical voice sounded inside his head.[Mission completed. Would the Host like to receive the reward?]“Yes.”[Reward distribution has begun. Congratulations, Host. You have received 2,000 System Points, $10,000,000, and ownership of The King Hotel. The money has been transferred directly into the Host's bank account, while the hotel has already been purchased under the Host's name. All necessary ownership documents have also been completed.]Micheal stared at the notification for several seconds before a smile slowly spread across his face. Just a few hours ago, he had been desperately se

The female doctor finished checking the monitor. Looked at Micheal with a thoughtful face.“Young man, you’ve got a tenacious life. Still trying to figure out how you’re even conscious right now.”Micheal met her eyes. No smile.“Don’t feel particularly lucky,” he said. “Just stubborn.”Doctor raised an eyebrow a little. “Stubbornness doesn’t usually fix broken bones overnight. Your internal injuries were bad enough most people wouldn’t have lasted the night.”Aurelia stood a few steps away. Arms loosely crossed. Watching the whole thing in silence. She hadn’t left the room.Micheal glanced at her for half a second before answering the doctor.“Maybe the people who planned the night didn’t account for every variable.”Female doctor paused. Clearly didn’t expect that. Glanced at Aurelia, then back at Micheal.“Whatever the reason,” she said carefully, “your recovery is outside normal medical expectations. We’ll need more tests.”Before Micheal could say anything the heavy doors opened.
