"Ten grand bucks! Oh my god, this guy would have to deliver a hundred million pizzas to make that much!"
"Forget delivering pizzas! He wouldn’t earn that even if he sold his blood or his organs!"
"All it takes is moving your tongue to get that kind of money! Where else can you find an easier way? What are you hesitating for, you broke loser?"
The people behind Kevin burst into exaggerated mocking laughter, like a pack of hyenas circling.
To them, Liam wasn’t even a person. Just a joke. A punching bag for their amusement.
The air around Liam turned frosty as he stared them down.
His eyes sharpened. Then, he let out a slow, humorless chuckle.
That chuckle made Kevin freeze immediately.
For some unknown reasons, a prickle of unease down his spine.
Something about Liam today felt... different.
He had always been mild and obedient, following every command from his sister Nina and their family.
And now he looked...threatening, as if he could tear Kevin’s throat open at any moment.
But Kevin shook his head to wave that thought away quickly. Nonsense! Losers always losers! What was he afraid of?!
To hide this strangely uneasy feeling, Kevin snarled to Liam, his voice sharper.
“What the fuck are you laughing at? Anything funny? Too happy to get a tip?”
“I said lick it! Or do you want us to help you taste it?"
Liam met Kevin’s glare, his eyes calm but deadly, like the stillness before a storm.
He finally spoke, his voice calm, almost lazy.
"Since money means everything to you..." he said with the ghost of a smirk, "How about this?"
“I give you a hundred grand. You lick the spit off the floor, and clean my shoes with your tongue. Deal?”
There was a second of silence. As Kevin slowly realize this is a hit back for the humiliation, his face turned angrily red.
“You—” His rage choked, "You asked for this!"
He snapped his fingers. A dozen beefy bodyguards stepped forward, cracking their knuckles.
Kevin’s voice rang out, spit flew as he barked orders.
“Beat some sense into him!”
He flashed a vicious grin at Liam.
“You think you’re hot shit just ‘cause my sister wasted five years on you? You’re nothing but a leech, living off her scraps!”
The bodyguards closed in.
They were big guys, but well-fed on privilege, muscles thick from gym memberships instead of real fights.
Liam didn’t even blink.
He’d been through worse. Much worse. His grandfather had thrown him into a hellish training camp, a place designed to break men.
Out of a thousand recruits, less than ten had made it out. Liam was one of them. He hadn’t just survived. He’d thrived.
And these pampered attack dogs?
They weren’t even a warm-up.
A voice suddenly cut through the tension.
“Stop it! Right now!”
All heads turned. It was stunning woman strode toward them.
Her presence commanding attention. Her hair cascaded down her back, and even in her fury, there was an elegance to her movements
Kevin’s scowl vanished, replaced with something dangerously close to excitement. "Emily! What are you doing here?"
Emily Carter. She used to be a close friend of Nina’s.
The daughter of the once-powerful Carter family.
Even after Carter family's downfall, her beauty was still legendary, whispered about in high society circles.
She stepped in front of Liam, her eyes burning with disgust as she faced Kevin.
“You’re really doing this again? Throwing your weight around like a thug?”
“Liam’s job isn’t the problem here, Kevin. You are.”
Kevin’s jaw clenched. He had spent years trying to win Emily over. And now, here she was defending this fucking nobody?
"Emily, this guy’s a total loser," Kevin spat. "He dragged my sister down for five years!”
“And now he’s flaunting the divorce settlement she gave him like he earned it. I’m just putting him in his place.”
“So just step aside, Emily. Don’t embarrass me."
Emily stole a quick glance at Liam. He stood there, hands stuffed in his pockets, completely unbothered.
“I didn’t take a single cent of Nina’s money,” Liam said flatly, “Keep running your mouth, Kevin.”
One of Kevin’s lackeys snorted.
“Yeah, right! Millions in settlement money, and you didn’t take a cent? Who the hell are you trying to fool?”
Kevin smirked. “You heard him, Liam. Hand them over! The money, the house, the car. You don’t deserve any of it.”
“If it weren’t for you, my sister wouldn’t have been a laughingstock. Jake Johnson? That's who can marry her!”
Emily stepped forward, chin high. Her voice turned razor-sharp.
"That's enough, Kevin! Here is Titan Corp. Eyes everywhere! If you ruin Nina’s deal with them, she’ll never forgive you!"
Kevin hesitated.
Nina was the only person he feared. After all, his entire cushy lifestyle and everything he had, all came from her. He didn't dare to screw it up.
He clenched his fists, shooting Liam one last glare.
“This isn’t over, Liam. You’ll pay for this.”
Then he spun on his heel and stormed off. His goons hesitated for a second before scurrying after him like well-trained mutts.
Emily turned to Liam, her expression softening a bit.
"You okay?"
Liam shrugged. "Thanks, but I had it under control."
Emily arched a skeptical eyebrow. "Sure you did."
She took a step closer, lowering her voice. "Look, Kevin’s a snake. I helped you this time, but next time? Who knows.”
“Just take Nina’s money and get out of Riverside City. Start fresh somewhere quiet.”
“If you stay, they will eat you alive."
Before Liam could respond, Emily was already walking away. She was gripping a folder tightly. Her mind clearly on something bigger than this mess with Kevin.
She was probably here for the business with TitanCorp.
Liam watched her disappear down the hall, then followed her inside the building.
At the elevator, he ran into her again. Emily turned to him, blinked in surprise
"What are you doing here? This isn’t a place for you.”
“Titan Corp has its own cafeteria. No one orders pizza here.”
“If you go any further, security will toss you out."
Liam opened his mouth. He was about to reply, but a voice he knew all too well cut in.
"Liam? Emily? What are you two doing together? Do you even know where you are?”
Liam resisted the urge to groan. Of all the people to run into…
Nina.
She strutted in like she owned the place, her arm wrapped around Jake Johnson, her new trophy.
Her chin lifted just enough to look down on everyone.
Liam’s eyes flicked over her, then his gaze caught on something
A fresh hickey, just above the collar of her dress.
Liam's rage flared up instantly.

Chapter 58
Liam had no choice but to change the plan for escorting the token. They waited in the dock until nine, gathered everyone, had a hearty meal, and got in peak condition before driving back to Riverside. From the airport to the city, avoiding major traffic routes, there were three national highways and six provincial roads leading to their destination. The enemy was in the dark, while they were in the light, so Liam couldn’t afford to alert anyone or cause any civilian casualties.Otherwise, the enemies might slip away without a trace, while they’d be left dealing with a whole mess of problems. For this reason, Liam chose a provincial road that was relatively close and seldom traveled. But there were two spots along this road that were perfect for ambushes. Before reaching this road, Liam had already spent hours on the national highway. As they neared a three-way intersection by the highway, he suddenly turned onto a mountain path. They passed through a small village and arrived at the p

The plaque was intricately carved with dragon claws, with a large “L” character in seal script at the center, and a smaller “S” underneath. The back of the plaque shimmered, engraved with the words "G.""Yes, that’s it," Chloe said, her eyes gleaming as she nodded to the burly man."Chloe, the mercenary contract is now concluded."The burly man seemed uninterested in the plaque. With a wave, he turned and strutted back to his vehicle. As the cars disappeared from view, Nicolas and the others finally exhaled in relief."Continue to stay alert!" Liam ordered, before turning and walking back toward the dock with Chloe.Chloe carefully toyed with the plaque in her hands, her expression one of deep respect.Liam raised an eyebrow. "Chloe, were the Litsgon ancestors royal guards or something?""You figured it out?" Chloe asked, surprised."I’m no fool," Liam grinned. "I may not have seen the real deal, but I’ve watched enough period dramas. I heard that the real imperial tokens are worth mil
Chapter 56
Liam nodded knowingly. "International-level mercenaries aren't always foreign. Mercenaries with our nationality aren't monitored as strictly, as long as they're not doing anything illegal. They can run businesses just like anyone else, as long as they stay within the law." He patted Chloe’s shoulder. "Chloe, don’t worry. Even if things go sideways during the handoff, I’ll make sure you’re safe." "But the token is more important than me, I..." Chloe trailed off. Liam cut her off. "Chloe, if the worst happens, I’ll make sure you're safe and destroy the token in the shortest time possible." Chloe’s eyes widened. "Liam, you mean burn it all down?" "It won’t be that dramatic," Liam waved off the idea. "But you have to promise me you won’t hold it against me, or I won’t do it." "Let... let’s see what happens," Chloe said, her voice wavering slightly. They sat in the corner of the dock, speaking softly for a while. Half an hour later, Nicolas' deep voice crackled through their e
Chapter 55
Liam nodded and addressed the rest of the group. "You stay as you are, adapt as needed. Ensure the enemy can’t get close to the target!" "Yes, sir!" The mercenaries shouted together. Nicolas looked concerned. With three snipers now on the team, including Liam, the balance and coordination of their team could be disrupted. Chloe and Jack stood nearby, listening to Liam's commands. Their respect for him had skyrocketed. This guy knew military operations like the back of his hand. He was definitely no ordinary person! There had to be a legendary story behind him. "Alright, Mr. Lee, we're ready to go," Chloe checked her watch. "By 8 PM, my family's token will be arriving at the International Airport." "We’re changing routes?" Liam frowned. "Yeah, we have no choice," Chloe nodded. "Other members of my family are onto me now. I’m not sure who I can trust, so I need to prepare early." "Alright," Liam agreed. He’d done thorough research on the Nightton area, and several covert route
Chapter 54
Captain Nicolas looked up and saw Liam lying flat on the ground, his shoulder resting on the PSG rifle, the infrared scope already activated."Still aiming for the left heart.""Damn it!"Jack and Chloe exchanged a look, both filled with excitement."Liam is crushing Captain Nicolas! He's completely dominating!""This is amazing! Looks like Liam is the key factor for tonight's operation!"As the saying goes, amateurs watch for the spectacle, but experts look for the subtleties. The other seven mercenaries stood stunned, speechless with shock. They all knew Captain Nicolas’ skills.Sure, he was bulky, but his reaction time and handling ability were top-notch, otherwise, he wouldn’t have earned the respect of the team. But that scrawny young man had just outperformed Captain Nicolas in both reaction time and skill by a full second—maybe two!In the mercenary world, if you’re even a fraction of a second faster than your opponent, it could decide life or death.Yet here, Captain Nicolas,

"Boring questions." Liam snapped his fingers, swiftly slicing through the air and catching the 92’s trigger guard in his hand. With a smooth motion, he chambered a round and aimed, all in one seamless action. If he had wanted to kill, Captain Nicolas would have already had a bullet hole in the middle of his forehead. The other eight men weren’t rookies; they immediately recognized Liam’s skill, and a flicker of uncertainty passed through their minds.Just that one move was enough to rattle them!Captain Nicolas wasn’t pleased. His voice dropped low, "Brother, I’ve never heard of you before. Where did you train?""Just some nobody, trained on my own at home," Liam said, walking casually over to the long table. The table was lined with some of the most common firearms and gear on the market.Liam glanced over, then pulled a scoped assault rifle from one of the cases. "Who’s got the G3-PSG?""Sir, that would be me," a stocky man stepped forward.Liam nodded and placed his hand on the sco
