“Billy!” Jenny banged on the penthouse door with both fists. “Open up! I know you’re in there!”

No response.

She stepped back, breathing hard, mascara streaked across her cheeks like war paint. Her once-perfect curls were now a frizzy mess. The penthouse lights were off. Completely dark. She tried the passcode on the door.

Denied.

Again.

Denied.

Her phone buzzed.

[Transaction Failed: Card Declined]

“What the hell…”

She tried her backup card.

[Card Declined]

Another buzz.

[Access Revoked: LuxuryPent Account]

Her jaw dropped. “He removed me?!”

Just then, the hallway door opened behind her.

“Ma’am?” A security guard stepped out. “Mr. Corners has asked that you leave the property. Effective immediately.”

Jenny spun around. “What?! He—he can’t do that! We’re dating! I live here!”

The guard gave a stiff shrug. “Not anymore.”

Her lips trembled. “He’s just upset. Tell him to call me. Please—”

He held up a finger. “I’m also supposed to collect the Rolex and the diamond earrings.”

Jenny clutched her bag. “Over my dead body!”

He sighed. “Ma’am, don’t make this harder.”

“No! I won’t leave until I talk to Billy!”

***

An hour later, Jenny was standing outside a parking lot, shivering. Her high heels clicked across the cracked pavement as she spotted Billy sitting on a bench, staring at the ground.

“Billy!” she called, rushing up to him. “Finally. I’ve been trying to reach you all day.”

He didn’t even look up.

Jenny smiled tightly. “Look… I know things got out of hand. Vincent’s just trying to play mind games. You know that, right?”

Silence.

Jenny reached out to touch his shoulder. “Let’s just go back to the way things were. I’ll fix it, okay? I’ll make this better. We’re a team, Billy.”

His head turned slowly.

And when he looked at her, his eyes were colder than steel.

“Team?” he scoffed. “You’re a joke.”

Jenny blinked. “What?”

“You were only good for one thing,” Billy said. “Eye candy with a loud mouth.”

She flinched. “You don’t mean that.”

“I mean every word.” He stood up, towering over her. “You’re a worthless bag. Useless now that the money’s gone.”

Her lips trembled. “I… I left Vincent for you.”

Billy snorted. “Exactly. And that tells me all I need to know.”

He leaned in close.

“Go beg him,” he sneered. “Maybe if you cry hard enough, he’ll throw you five grand too.”

Jenny gasped, stepping back like she’d been slapped. “Billy…”

He turned away. “Don’t follow me.”

Later, hungry, cold, and abandoned, Jenny sat on the edge of a dusty sidewalk, arms folded tightly, eyes burning with unshed tears. Her once-flawless makeup had streaked down her cheeks in black rivers. Her feet throbbed inside the heels Billy bought for her —expensive, yes, but never meant for walking endless blocks under the blazing sun.

She blinked back sweat as a yellow bus sped past her, kicking dust into her face. She coughed, waving it away with a trembling hand.

“This can’t be my life,” she whispered to no one. “It’s just a phase. I’ll bounce back. I always do.”

Digging into the designer purse Billy had gotten for her just a few hours ago, she grabbed her phone—only to find it at 1% battery and no signal. A soft ping lit the screen for a second before it died: [Your account balance is low. Airtime top-up failed. Please recharge.] Her stomach twisted. She tapped the power button again. Nothing. The screen had gone black—just like her luck.

She looked up at the sky, biting back a scream. Around her, strangers stared. Some whispered. Some took pictures.

Jenny’s heart pounded. She turned her face away quickly, pulling her tangled hair over her face. But she could feel their eyes, hear their laughter. Another phone camera clicked. Another picture. Another dagger to her pride. She stood abruptly, grabbing her bag and limping away, hoping to disappear into the streets.

Then—snap. One of her heels broke clean off. She stumbled forward with a gasp, barely catching herself on a rusted gate. Her knees buckled. Her palms stung. And the laughter behind her only grew louder.

“You okay?” a voice asked from behind.

She didn’t answer. Her breath came in shallow gasps as she hobbled forward, one foot dragging.

She walked.

And walked.

And kept walking.

Until her once-fancy dress was soaked in sweat, her makeup ruined, her pride shattered beyond repair. Jenny Luth—queen bee, heartbreaker, campus goddess—was now just another girl trekking home with blistered feet and a reputation in ruins.

She finally reached the front of her apartment building, heart pounding in relief.

But the gate was locked.

A thick silver padlock gleamed in the sun. A neon-orange notice fluttered in the breeze:

"Eviction Notice. Tenant Failed to Pay Rent – 3 Months."

Jenny just stared, her mouth open, lips quivering. She looked down at her feet. One heel broken, her toes red and sore.

She laughed. Just once. A hollow, bitter sound.

Karma didn’t just knock her down, it dragged her through the dirt and apparently, it wasn’t done with her.

Her phone buzzed in her hand.

Notification: You’re Trending!

She blinked, confused, and tapped on it.

A video was going viral.

A waiter. A pretty girl. A birthday dinner. A glass of water thrown. A heart broken.

It was her.

Her voice. Her insults. Her humiliation of Vincent in full HD.

And the captions?

“Gold-digging witch gets served karma.”

“Vincent deserved better.”

“This aged like sour milk.”

Jenny gasped. “No no no! Who filmed this?!”

The comments were brutal.

@LuxGirl: “That poor guy. He looked like he was about to cry.”

@DramaKing22: “She threw WATER on him? Nah. She’s evil.”

@HennyOnIce: “She left him for Billy Corners? Girl, you downgraded.”

@CrownSlayer: “Plot twist—I hope he’s richer than Billy now.”

Her hands trembled.

She opened her contact list and tapped Billy’s name.

Voicemail.

She tried again.

Voicemail.

“Pick up, dammit!”

She called Carla.

Rejected.

Her breath came out in short gasps. Panic rising like bile.

Then she did the unthinkable.

She scrolled.

Found his name.

Vincent.

Her finger hovered over the call button.

She hesitated.

Then tapped it.

The line rang once.

Twice.

Three times.

Jenny’s heart pounded.

He was going to answer. He had to. She would apologize. She would cry if she had to. He loved her once.

He’d forgive her.

Right?

Ring four.

Ring five.

Then—Declined.

Jenny froze.

Her lips parted, but no sound came out.

A few seconds later, her screen buzzed again.

1 New Message – From Vincent.

She tapped it open with shaking fingers.

"Remember when you said I’d die broke?

Let’s see how fast your world falls without me."

She dropped the phone like it was on fire.

“Vincent… what are you doing?” she whispered.

Her phone lit up again.

But this time, it didn’t buzz.

The screen blinked twice.

"No Service."

She frowned.

Opened settings. Tried to reconnect.

"SIM Error. Network Not Found."

She blinked. “What?”

She restarted the phone.

Nothing.

No bars. No data. No signal.

Just an empty screen and a dead silence.

Jenny stood there, alone, in front of her locked apartment, holding a phone that had suddenly become useless.

Her voice cracked in disbelief. “Why… can’t I make a call?”

In her frustration she glared at the sky and screamed loud. So loud that Vincent in a black car, staring out the window just a few blocks away, heard her.

He looked down at his phone, watching Jenny’s contact disappear from the telecom admin dashboard.

Macul’s voice came from the front seat. “She’s been disconnected. Entire line scrubbed from the system.”

Vincent smiled.

“Good. We just bought the networ

Macul cleared his throat gently, his tone still warm with excitement. “Young Master Vincent, I believe it’s time you come with me to Maxine Corps. You need to be properly introduced to the board and the major employees. They deserve to meet their true CEO.”Vincent nodded slowly, his mind still reeling. “I will. But… I want to see my sister first.”A light smile curved Macul’s lips. “I had no doubts you’d say that. You two were so fond of each other. I believe when she sees you—when she feels your presence—it will spark something within her. A miracle might happen.”Vincent’s heart clenched. Just the thought of having a sister lying in a hospital bed, in a coma, sent a wave of protectiveness through him. “Then I’ll see her soon.”“Of course.” Macul reached into his suit pocket and pulled out a golden card. It shimmered beneath the suite's crystal chandelier. “In the meantime, please accept this. It’s the access card to this entire suite. You can stay here comfortably until I arrange t
