Splendid Performance

Morning came, and everyone departed from the village. Though we have a long march ahead since all of us use carriages and horses, we will soon be at our destination.

Inside the carriage, I'm currently sitting in front of Elena.

"Lady Elena, I've been meaning to ask. May I know besides being a soldier, are there any jobs I can get?" Jin

"Hmm, yes. There are a lot of different guilds currently operating in the Narva Kingdom. But the most famous is Adventurers Guild and Merchant Guild." Elena

"I see. May I know what adventurers guild do?" Jin

"They usually hunt demons." Elena

"Since job in Adventurers guild is extremely dangerous. Beginners are usually trained by the guild during their first day. Once they passed the training, they will be officially registered and will be given an ID. They can also pay an extra gold coin to get a mentor. The mentor is usually within the top 50 in the guild, so the pay is considerably high. But decision-wise, it's good since the mentor will come along with you during your first week and will help and advise you throughout your mission."

"I see, that's how they operate. I think I will try to register in the Adventurer Guild." Jin

"If it's your decision, no one will stop you beside you are powerful enough to pass the training easily." Elena

"Haha. I'm not that powerful Lady Elena." Jin awkwardly laughs

"No, I think you are since you easily killed a demon bear yesterday. Elena said while nodding.

So, the guild here is the same as the fantasy novels I read in my previous life. Do they also search for ruin? Hmm. I'll find out once we arrived in the capital city.

We talk a lot more but when I asked regarding the information about the nobles and royal family, Elena only provide the name and their ranking.

Which I understand since it's confidential information and she also said that I must be careful not to inquire more when we arrive in the capital city because the soldiers and knights might mistake me as a spy.

I voiced my agreement but inside my head, I will surely investigate the nobles and royal family since my brain is telling me that somehow, the tension between Ruel Empire and the Fyn Kingdom will be the reason why 5 years from now, all races will be ceased to exist. 

That's why I started to contemplate whether to register in the guild or stay as a personal guard of Elena.

Both have different pros and cons.

If I stay as a personal guard. Learning information about the nobles and the royal family is faster since Elena herself is noble. The only thing I was worried is that my time is not in my control anymore since I will act as a meatshield for her safety.

If I register and become part of the Adventurers Guild. I can have all the time in the world. No one will dictate to me what to do. I can easily move where and whenever I want. But the con is losing an opportunity to learn about the nobles and royal family faster.

Yes, I could learn about them if I stayed as an adventurer, but I need a large sum of money just to get information.

Arghh. What a headache.

Suddenly an idea sparks in my head. I can be her personal guard during important days such as visits to the palace and nobles' gatherings or traveling outside the kingdom. And I can continue as an adventurer during her relaxing days.

I hope she accepts.

And the God of Luck gives me an opportunity.

During our travel, the people are stable most of the time, but you can't change the fact that some people are nervous.

What if a monster attacks them?

The villagers' number is 1,000 while the soldier's number is 200, the magicians are 20 and the Knights' number is 25.

Of course, like the usual web novel and light novel I read in my previous life. In this kind of setting, the attack of a monster is inevitable.

And so, the soldier surrounded the villagers to hold off the monster. And me? Well, Elena said that it's fine to stay in the carriage with her. Since Castor, the chief of security in the village and currently the captain of soldiers confirmed that the monster will be easy to deal with as they are only rabbit demons.

After 3 minutes of fighting, the soldiers safely killed the demons with ease.

Castor knocks on our carriage and opens the door.

He confirmed that all the rabbit demons were killed. But I have this ominous feeling.

Suddenly we heard roars. And yes, what a red flag.

Five demon bears slowly walking towards on our direction and soon arrive on the road.

The people begin to panic. Some started to scream, and others want to run.

But Elena steps out of the carriage and tries to calm everyone.

"Everyone, please calm down. Don't panic, we can handle them, we have magicians, knights, and soldiers that can guarantee your safety." Elena confidently shouts.

Elena gives orders to everyone

"Captain Castor surrounds each demon bear with 5 knights and 10 soldiers. The Magician will support us on the back. And the rest will protect the villagers. Their safety is the priority." Elena confidently said and turn her gaze toward me.

It's your normal but effective strategy.

"Jin, please help us to kill the demons." Elena pleadingly said

"Of course, Lady Elena. I will help and protect you at the same time." I confidently said.

Damn! I must give my best performance with this so Elena can accept my job proposal later.

The knights and soldiers act on the orders of Elena.

The magician begins to chant, wait chant? Am I hearing it right? Why do they need to chant?

"Earth that is sturdy, please protect us with your blessing. " Some Magician chanted

"Light that turns away the darkness. Please lend us your power." the other magicians chanted

"Power that can bring destruction, struck my opponent at once" Some magicians ready to attack at any given time

I turn my gaze towards the magicians and magic circle stars appearing on their staff. Some provided physical abilities to knights and soldiers while some are on standby to heal those who will fall.

Really? I thought people in this world can use magic without chanting which I did yesterday to help Elena.

The fight started without too much ado and the demon bear is definitely strong against soldiers and can easily kill them with just one hit but with help of physical enhancement from magicians, they can somehow dodge.

The demon bears rear up on their hind legs and try to knock the knights and soldiers over with their powerful paws, but the knights use their shield to block which they successfully did but their knees start trembling.

With just one attack, the demon bear made them shake their knees. It's terrifying if you're a normal person. But for me, it's just easy breezy.

I don't know why but there is something inside of me that gives me the confidence to easily killed all these demon bears.

I can use my magic and attack them but as I plan earlier I need to perform splendidly. Who wants to be a personal guard only using magic power? Yes, you can but I need to use a sword.

Good thing, I learned to study swordsmanship in my previous life and not to boast but I was in the top 5 in the school I enrolled.

First, I enrolled in the school of martial arts for the sole purpose of self-defense. I think I'm doing great in my class so I join the competition but sadly, I didn't even get to the top 10.

I was so bitter that time and ready to go home but I happened to watch the swordsmanship competition.

I was awestruck by that time. It's not your regular sword dance performance we saw on TV but a real swordfight. The way they attack and defend using their sword is awesome.

Of course, they are using wooden swords and they are equipped with protective armor which made them more aggressive at each other knowing that they will only get injured not sliced, or die during the fight.

After I saw that, I drop my subject and switch to swordsmanship and trained hard. And oh boy, not to boast, really. I am included in the top 5 in swordsmanship.

Now you are doubting me why I boasted about being included top 5 in swordsmanship but died pathetically? 

Let me tell you logically. You cannot win against four people with a gun. No matter how quick your response is, it's still not quicker on bullets.

I fix my gaze on the bear that easily overwhelmed the 5 knights and 10 soldiers and tank the magic attack of some magicians, though it gives a severe injury, it didn't stop it from rampaging.

After three more attacks from the demon bear, the knights and soldiers back away.

The demon bear suddenly turns its gaze toward Elena's location and runs to her.

I unsheathed the sword on the scabbard lent to me by a knight.

I ready myself, in just three seconds, the bear is in front of me and Elena.

I step forward and perform a lunge. It directly hit the bear on its paw. Without wasting any seconds, I perform a lunge again. The bear parried my attack which made me smile.

I move my sword and make a stance for a remise attack.

The demon bear shouted in pain and without too much problem I lunge my sword upward directly to the bear's mouth.

*Thud

The demon bear is killed by me in a mere 3 seconds which stunned Elena and the people around me.

I grin and commend myself for doing a good job. And to add more—

"Don't lose focus, aim the head of the demon bear. Magicians try to use magic power to divert the attention of enemies. Soldiers, attack the leg of the demon bear and the knight will use that opening to kill it." I shouted confidently.

After giving some more orders, the 5 demon bears were killed.

Everyone is looking at me with their eyes sparkling. Some are stunned that includes Elena.
