Light fell across the Paragon Hotel’s private auditorium as the emcee finished his welcome speech.

Mr. Lancaster sat poised in the front row like a host at a table; beside him was his grandson, Anthony, his hands folded on his knees.

The emcee’s voice echoed back into the room. “This afternoon's presentation will be delivered by Mr. Anthony Lancaster.”

A polite applause followed. Anthony stood and crossed to the podium, his chin raised high.

The room was full but not messy—rows of business owners in tailored suits, representatives of aristocratic families with soft-spoken confidence, partners from great houses whose names were respected in Brooklyn Heights, hospital directors, clinic chains, some senior medical regulators, and a line of journalists near the aisle.

Mostly people from the medical cross-sections of the city were here to participate in the launch today and perhaps be first in line when distribution began.
