Cain’s arms ached, his back ached, and his knees screamed in protest.

The morning had been a chaos of scrubbing, mopping, and dusting every corner of the house, and yet here he was, still bent over the wet floor, eyes bloodshot and muscles trembling. Every breath he took felt heavier than the last. He needed to rest, but before he could, a sharp thud echoed behind him.

“Cain!” His mother-in-law, Madam Loretta, appeared at the doorway, her heels clicking with authority and her face twisted with disdain.

Without a word, she tossed a neatly wrapped paper package across the room. It landed with a soft thump near his hands.

“Go deliver this to your wife. And get back to your chores instantly. I would not have you be useless and also be a slacking mutt." She glimmered with disdain, her voice cold.

---

It's been five years since Cain got married to his lovely wife.

He was trying to gather the tiny shreds of his life at that time. The last thing he remembered was finding himself on the street, without a memory, without a background, just a necklace in his hands and his knowledge of drugs

But he found a way through life. First picking trash, then opening a drug store from his savings.

After a year, life was going fine. He met a beautiful damsel and got married to her.

At that time, the Wilson family wasn't doing so well to do. They loved him, at least he thought, but his wife did.

Until, the family experienced a sudden boom, rose in fame and everyone began to hate him.

The only thing that held him was the love he and his wife shared but it seems like their hate was beginning to get to her too as they had barely seen each other more than five times throughout the month with claims that she was busy but Cain was no fool, it was beyond that.

Immediately Cain got into the office, his gaze locked into the eyes of his wife's secretary dripping with so much irritation.

She had never liked the fact that her boss seemed so tied down with such, excuse for a man as she would always call him.

“What are you doing here again?" She glared, her eyes surveying his cheap clothes and poor looks forcing her to hiss.

“I am your boss's husband, shouldn't that be enough reason to see her?" Cain shot back a cold side eye.

Darlene scoffed, anger flickering through every bit of her being.

"Husband you say! And who ever said she considers you that? More like a servant!"

She corrected and continued, each word reinforced with even more hate.

“You cannot see her. Madam said she doesn't want to see or hear anything that would ruin her day!"

“I have something to deliver to her and it's urgent."

Darlene’s sneer widened. She snatched the package from him, rolling her eyes like she was holding poop.

“This? Trash. Toss it in the garbage. Madam has an important appointment. You’ll only embarrass her.”

Cain’s chest tightened but he managed to keep his cool.. “Call her... I wouldn't leave until she turned me down herself."

The secretary huffed, clearly irritated by his persistence. She picked up the phone, her tone dripping with disdain. “Madam, your… husband is here again. What should I do?”

Cain froze as he heard her voice. It came through the line like ice in his veins.

“Why is he there? I don’t want this embarrassment following me. People are watching.”

His heart dropped. He took a step back. The floor beneath him seemed to tremble. He was about to leave, shoulders sagging, when a soft moan pierced through the phone. It was faint, intimate, unmistakable. Cain’s blood turned cold. Something was wrong. Something is very wrong.

Before he could think, fear and dread propelled him forward. He pushed past Darlene. Her mouth opened in protest, but Cain ignored her. Heart hammering, chest pounding, memories flashed across his mind: the nights he cared for her, kneeling in the rain to fetch medicine, standing between her and her family when they tried to hurt her, sacrificing everything to protect her.

He burst into the office and what he saw made his eyes pop from their sockets.

Sia was there. Sitting on Xavier Kane’s lap — the city’s infamous playboy, whose scandalous headlines had dominated newspapers for weeks for impregnating a dozen ladies.

Sia smiled at him, hair messy, shirt open, lips curled in a wild grin. Not a hint of guilt. Not a flicker of shame.

Cain’s body froze.

She straightened, fixed her shirt deliberately, and glared at him.

“What are you doing here? I thought I told you not to follow me around.” Her voice was cold, sharp. “Do you want people to think you belong to me?”

He could see the shame bored into her eyes just from staring at him.

"That's all you have to say? I caught you cheating and that's all?" Anger and pain crept into Cain's voice causing Sia to frown deeply.

"Is there something else that I'm forgetting?"

"Or should I be shaking that my lowlife husband caught me cheating with a real man!" She drew Kane closer to herself and kissed him, passionately with the depths of her tongue, a feeling that she had never experienced.

Cain's world tore right before his eyes but he kept his calm.

Cain opened his mouth, voice cracking.

"I thought you said you loved me Sia."

With a soft and Venomous laugh, she drew

“Love? Love doesn’t put food on my table. It doesn’t build dreams. Cain, you could never help me reach what I wanted. Xavier is the only real man who can.”

"While the only thing you do is make noodles and give a good massage. A dog down the street can easily do that!"

She stood, her heel clicking against the polished floor. “You… you were never in my league. You’re nothing.”

"And it's high time we part ways cause, you would only drag me down and slow me down!" She cluttered

Xavier Kane stood, smug, arrogant, and irritatingly arrogant, his dark eyes gleaming with cruelty. He sauntered toward Cain, voice low and mocking. “She’s moved on to a real man. You were just keeping her warm.”

Cain did not retaliate. Not now. Not yet. His soul quivered with silent fury, but his body remained still.

She stepped forward, shoving a thick stack of papers into his chest from the package that had dropped from his hands.

Divorce papers. “Sign and disappear. You would get a million dollars after doing so. I would have you embarrass me again.”

Cain lets out a painful laugh.

"Thank you!" He muttered and signed the papers, throwing it at her.

There was no need to fight or cry over spilled milk.

Sia stared at the blank space that had been filled by her worthless husband just a few moments again.

And it was like a deep vacuum had been created in her heart, it seemed just too easy.

Xavier leaned close to her ear, whispering, smirk glinting: “Why don’t we make sure he really suffers? He only made you suffer and embarrassed, didn't he!"

Sia tried to say something, to stop him but Xavier whispered.

"I won't hurt him too bad!" With that, he placed a call across to Patrick.

"Cain. Find him and break his bones!" The message read.

**********

Cain walked into the hold air. The weight of the betrayal crashed down on him that he could barely move.

He had tried to please her but love wasn't enough anymore.

So lost in his thoughts that he could barely notice that he had been surrounded by a group of thugs, Patrick stepped forward with a grim face.

"If it isn't the worthless mutt!" Those words brought Cain back to consciousness and his being jolted.

"What do you want?"

"Just doing what should have been done a long time ago, sending you to your Creator!" Patrick responded.

They attacked him, one of the thugs hitting him on the end and sending him flying through the air almost instantly.

Every part of his being cracked with pain and then, his vision blurred, pictures appeared in his mind.

A distant self, powerful, deadly, someone he could dare to claim to be.

Then it happened.

Flashbacks. Memories he had buried deep inside him burst forth: burning battlefields, kneeling soldiers, a throne ablaze, the roar of an army chanting his name with reverence.

His body shivered violently as golden light flickered behind his eyes.

He was not just Cain. He had been… something far greater that his current mind could barely hold.

The air shifted and even nature shrank.

The thugs stepped back, startled. A faint, unnatural aura shimmered around him, hinting at the power he once wielded. But Cain did not strike. Not yet. He only stood, chest heaving, dark eyes glimmering, quivering with power restrained.

Somewhere, a signal echoed silently across the city — to the four cardinal points, a message for those who had been waiting. A powerful entity had returned.

Cain walked away. Broken, battered, bloodied. But with every step, the faint whisper of power stirred, snapping the breath off from everyone that stood around.

That’s what he told us!” Malcolm’s friends whispered amongst themselves, their eyes looked at him with so much shock.“This is such wonderful news, Michael! Who would have thought that the bank belonged to us?” Cain chuckled softly, giving Michael more reasons to ask the questions that harbored his curiosity.“What has he done, Lord Cain? Has he offended you?” The Butler looked at Malcolm who gestured to him to plead on his behalf.“He has, Michael. His son insulted my friend and me earlier today, and tonight again, I encountered him.”“I am so sorry, Lord Cain! My son was very foolish for whatever he did to you at the store! He is going to apologize right away!” Malcolm stood up fr

I am sure we can find somewhere else to sit.” Noah said calmly, looking around in search of another place they could sit. He sighted an empty chair at the other end of the hall, and he sighed before returning his gaze to Cain.“Over there, Cain! I see an empty seat. We should go there right now, I can let you sit, I don’t mind standing.” Noah hoped that Cain was going to agree to what he said, but his mind was already made up, and he refused to budge.“Why don’t you listen to your friend, boy! Leave that place, and find somewhere else to sit!”“No! That’s not gonna happen! If you want me to leave, then you are going to have to make me!” Cain’s eyes glared at the man, sending cold shivers down his spine and those of his friends. I can’t believe that this is me.” Noah gasped the moment he saw his reflection in the mirror. He had never dressed in such expensive attire, and he couldn't stop staring.“Come on, Noah. We are going to be late for the party.” Cain said calmly after adjusting his blue-striped tie with both hands. He was clad in a fancy black suit just like Noah, but their designs were entirely di

CHAPTER EIGHTY-FIVEThe air in the room thickened with a lot of tension, and while Caroline was still trying to get a grip on herself, Noah nudged Cain in an attempt to get his attention, but he refused to look at him while he kept his eyes on Brian who was still fuming with so much anger inside him.“I really think we should leave this place, Cain. You don’t need to do this, we can settle it amicably.” Caroline pleaded, but her plea fell on deaf ears. She looked at Cain almost immediately, giving him gestures to leave, but he refused to listen to her.“If you do not call your Manager right now, I am going to write a bad review about this place, and I will make sure you lose your job! CHAPTER EIGHTY-FOURCain took in a deep breath which he let out slowly in an attempt to get a grip on himself. The demeanor of the saleslady pissed him off greatly, and he tried as much as he could to stop himself from reacting. He looked at Noah, but he seemed to be unbothered about all of that while he occupied his eyes with admiring the suits in front of them.“These are really nice, Cain! I have never worn a suit before, this is going to be my first time. I am super excited!”“Yeah, I guess.” Cain managed to smile at Noah while he struggled with his anger. He looked toward the direction the saleslady had gone and saw that she was speaking to some other people with an excited smile on her face. From the look of things, they appeared rich, and she placed much value on them because of their appearance.“Who are those people?” Noah said when he realized that Cain had been staring at them with a smirk on his face.“Why would she keep us standing for so long? That’s unprofessional!” Noa
